October 15, 2003 – Jackie Trail, women’s tennis pro and native of Paducah, injured her ankle while practicing last week in Gainesville, Florida, and has withdrawn from next week’s tournament in Paducah. Cameron Trail, tournament director and Jackie’s uncle, had awarded her a wildcard allowing her entry directly into the main draw of the 32 player tournament. “Jackie had hoped her ankle would be well enough to play here. She was looking forward to returning to Paducah and playing in front of a hometown crowd,” said Trail. Jackie attended Reidland High School before turning pro at age 16. Playing in her sixth year as a pro player, Jackie’s career has been plagued with injuries. She is currently ranked 492. Her highest ranking was 166 in 1999.
Jackie’s exit allows Katrina Tsang, a junior player from Raleigh, North Carolina, to enter the field as a wildcard. Katrina is 15 years old and currently ranked #13 in the Girls 18. She played in this year’s US Open Junior tournament. Katrina has also won two national titles as a junior player, 2002 Supernational Clay Court Championships and the 2003 Easter Bowl Supernational.
