~CANUCK~ Oct 7th, 2003, 03:00 AM How does mo go from being number 1 seed in qualifing to number 1 seed in the main draw
Scotso Oct 7th, 2003, 03:19 AM She's the highest ranked player in the draw but she missed the cutoff for entering, so they put her in the qualifying draw... but since she won through to the main draw, she takes the place she would normally get... which is the #1 seed.

narcissus boy Oct 8th, 2003, 12:22 AM My Lafayette Report
Day 1
We got to final round qualifying on Monday and first up was Drake vs. Tavares. Drake walked onto the court and I walked up to her and asked her for her autograph, and she said "Sure!!" and stupid ol' me dropped the notebook and she bent down and got it for me. I returned to my seat and she turned to me and said something like "Wish me luck!!" and smiled. "Mo" played very well. It was so funny, she was up 6-2 4-1, and was playing awesome tennis, but hit one in the net, and just slammed the ball as hard as she can and it landed in the highway..:o Tavares played very good as well, but made stupid UE on crucial points. As many say, alot closer than the score indicates. She's pretty cute as well. Her supporter was very pretty also, Cortez, I think she was.
Jessica Fernandez showed up behind the bleachers we were sitting in, and I told my mom "I think that's Jessica Fernandez...." and she turned around and asked her, "Are you Jessica Fernandez?" and she said yes with a big smile. I got her autograph, and she put (MEX) under it.. lol.
We then went to Court 3 to watch her match against Seredni, Jessica played well, but nowhere as good as she did today. A ball landed on Beau Jones' side of the court, and she kicked the ball at Jessica. Jessica got in an argument over the score.. Chrissie thought it was 40-0, but it was 30-15, because Jessica called a ball out earlier that Chrissie didn't hear.. Chrissie was pissed as hell.. anyway.. good match.
We then watched Melissa Mang vs. Christina Fusano, Melissa was a total bitch, arguing every call and nearly crying if she lost a point. Good match though.
I then went to Court 6 and watched Fernandez/Molony-Hussey vs. Cetkovska/Safarova. Fun match. :) They played very well, both teams, Jessica was so fast at net. Cetkovska looks like Maria Sharapova, but with alot bigger boobs and ass. :hearts: Safarova looks like a skinnier Bovina, but plays similiar to her. Jessica/Kara won, but we left early. My mom went up to the bench Jessica was sitting on during the match and was like, "Bye Miss Jessica!!! :)" and I was like "Mommmm!!! :fiery:", anyways, it was a good match.
Day 2
We got there and I ate my breakfast, and we saw Tina Schiechtl sitting down near us and we started talking to her. She was VERY friendly and I asked her did she know Barbara Schett or Patricia Wartusch, and she smiled and said yes. She said she was closer to Schwartz than those 2, and we talked about her injuries and her recent surgery. She was playing Jessica, so I didn't know who to cheer for.. :o So I was neutral, but happier that Jessica won. Jessica was AMAZING today, she was hitting the ball soooo hard, and all Tina could do was moonball or slice it back. It was crazy how Jessica would hit balls as hard as she could to each corner consistently.
Next was Drake vs. Cetkovska. Cetkovska is very very very pretty (Maria Sharapova look-a-like) and pretty talented. Drake had too much power for her, and she lost 6-3 7-5. Petra played pretty well though..
My mom sat by Mariana Correa, a very sweet girl from Florida, and we talked for along time, she was scouting Jessica for her next match if she wins tomorrow. She said to come watch her and Cory Ann play, but I was going to anyway to see Cory Ann.
She told me to go watch Uhlirova vs. Safarova, because she thought it would be a good match, boy was she right! Safarova lost in 2 I believe.. but she is talented, she plays just like Bovina and looks like her too. I sat by a very pretty girl named Natallia Dziamidzenka.
After that, I ran into Tavares, and asked for a picture with her, she was kinda shocked and said "Sure :)" and smiled. She put her arm around me and I felt sooo special. :hearts: She likes watching matches, she was always walking around the park watching the other players play.
We then walked to Court 3 to watch Cory Ann/Mariana play #1 seeds Sewell/Van Den Hurk. They got off to a good start, winning the first set 6-4. Then I think they both got tired and lost the next 2 sets easily 6-0 6-1. Cory Ann made alot of funny comments, including "MOVE YOU FAT COW!!" after failing to chase down a dropshot and "THERES A NET THERE, CORY ANN!!!" after hitting a shot into the net. My mom walked up to Mariana and said "Nice try.." with a sad look on her face, Mariana said thanks, etc. and we started walking off, I wanted to talk to Cory Ann so bad, but she seemed pretty upset about the loss, but my mom ran back and told her "My son is a big fan of your's and wants to meet you!" and asked if I could take a picture with her. She agreed and put her arm around me and said "Sorry I look so bad", laughing.. we said she looked fine and she blushed and laughed. She then asked me my name and I told her, and she said, "Nice to meet you, thanks for watching our match :)".. she was soooo sweet.
The end.

TheBoiledEgg Oct 9th, 2003, 01:37 PM Six of eight top seeds advance in tourney
October 9, 2003
LAFAYETTE — The tournament’s second-seeded player had to come back from a first-set loss, but Lindsay Lee-Waters led a charge of seeded players into the round of 16 Wednesday on the second day of the City Club Championships women’s pro tennis tournament at River Ranch.
Lee-Waters, from Dunwoody, Ga., and the highest-ranked and highest-seeded American in the U.S. Tennis Association event, rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over qualifier Melissa Mang to advance in the $25,000 circuit tournament.
Six of the top eight seeds have advanced to the round of 16, including four of five winning Wednesday in the second day of main-draw singles activity at the River Ranch clay-court complex.
Fourth-seeded Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa was the biggest upset victim of the day, falling to American Cory Ann Avants in a marathon 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) match.
The second-seeded Lee-Waters, ranked 137th in the WTA world rankings, will meet Hungary’s Anna Foldenyi in one of today’s eight singles matches that will advance players to the quarterfinals. Top-seeded Canadian Maureen Drake, the tournament’s top-ranked player (119th) in the WTA rankings, also plays today against Brazil’s Joana Cortez.
Drake and Lee-Waters also team in doubles today, playing their first-round match and meeting Americans Kelly McCain and Milangela Morales in the 4 p.m. feature match. begin at 10 a.m. today, which is the last day for the public to watch the event at no charge.
Beginning Friday and running through Sunday’s championship finals, a $5 admission will be charged daily.

Cory Ann  Still her first challenger semifinal though and im sure many more to come.
Good for Lindsay too! She's finally doing what she has always had trouble doing-putting together a string of good wins. She's had some heartbreaking losses (1st round at Wimbledon being one) that would have broken her streak of more than 5 1/2 yrs w/out a Main draw WTA win. Nice to see she is finally getting it together.
