Poe...I have an ennoying banner on top of WTAworld. Is that normal?? yuck..it doesn't fit at all...

Hey administrators I was just reading all these statistics, and it seems that 20% of people will leave a site if there are pop ups and banners. Have u thought of getting it off. I mean ive had pop up banners of geocities uve one 20 million bucks (yeah right) and one about a damm survey, this place used to be spam 3 now when i open it up about 3 or 4 other boxes come off. Its really annoying. Would this have n e thing to do witht eh WTA STATRZ Network?

wtaworld.com has NO pop-up ads whatsoever

and one banner ad at the top of the page is hardly spam

if that's enough for you to leave a message board, i don't really think you'll find any other board on the net that does not require some form of revenue to keep it going after it reaches a thousand users :)

I read that it was helping the sites in general (financially) if visitors click on these banners. is it the same here or does the money go to WTAST*RZ? Besides, there are some other advertisers who pay only once a commercial sale has been effected thanks to the banner.

Asking as I don't mind cliking on banners (takes only a few seconds), if it can help WTAworld.com to grow bigger and offer more stuff in future.

It is just a matter of give and take...

i appreciate your thoughtful post steve if for no other reason that they are a rarity around here lately

the people controlling the ad network are the same people who have graciously hosted our site which now requires unimaginable amounts of bandwidth to maintain

I'm more than happy to have them up there and if you want to click on them once in a while to help out, by all means ;)

Since most members connect everyday, 2 minutes taken per day are not much for each person but multiplied by around 2 to 300 active members, it will mean a lot to the site...

may be...I understand it all..but it gives WTAworld another look..like it's really getting a commercial thing.

and I never click banners on a site..I wonder if many people will do that here....

Well ive never clicked on it, but it certainly doesnt bother me at all.

Poe, I just clicked on the banner after reading the above posts. If that helps cover expenses for this site, I am very happy to do so. I think a lot of posters would do the same if they know about it. I never thought of clicking because there wasn't any notice asking for it. But anything that helps this site continue shouldn't be too much effort for the posters who are using it. Could you maybe post an announcement or something?

I actually clicked on one of the banners because it interested me :o But I'm glad I helped out wtaworld.com as well, because it totally deserves it.

Some people find banner ads offensive, some find them merely distracting while others don't even notice them. I think those of us in the first two groups could be made to understand with a friendly announcement.

Here is the friendly announcement:

It is not free to run a website with 7 million page views per month. And one ad at the top of the page should neither be distracting and especially not offensive.

I'm sorry if that is not friendly enough but to be perfectly honest i'm getting very annoyed by the reaction to this small thing that allows all of us to continue having a message board to post on.

I don't really click on them, but they don't bother me either. I don't really notice ads online anymore, you get used to them...

you mean that some advertisers demand that the link opens in the same window??? a banner is nothing else then an animated gif with a link on so... well may be, I guess you are the one who knows it ;)

the banner code isn't just a .gif with a link.. and some advertisers stipulate that ANY altering of the banner code they provide is prohibited

The banner doesn't bother me in the slightest. Infact I'd be worried if there wasn't a banner. All sites need revenue.
