paul_masterton Aug 5th, 2003, 07:26 PM :fiery: - none of the Brits making the trip. For some reason they wanna play the London 10k which is extremely strong.
These events were better when they were held in September.
No Femi?
CoryAnnAvants#1 Aug 5th, 2003, 11:46 PM That commitment list is a shame :o Doesn't Carly Homewood have finalist points to defend here?
nkoth Aug 6th, 2003, 01:27 AM Go Megha and Liza! :)
-neil
Xian Aug 6th, 2003, 07:24 AM lol Anna Miller 8th seeded
paul_masterton Aug 6th, 2003, 06:06 PM Yes Carly has both semi and finalist points to defend. But last year, the events were held in September.
nkoth Aug 13th, 2003, 05:52 AM Draw? Results? Anyone?

ghosts Aug 13th, 2003, 06:00 AM Unranked player to be seeded?
Is that possible?
paul_masterton Aug 13th, 2003, 06:28 PM Here's an articale giving soem results:
UK-based Nigerian tennis sensation, Clara Udofa made it big yesterday in the ongoing Heineken International Tennis when she defeated fifth seed and WTA ranked Fernadez-Bri Eva in two straight sets.
Udofa firing from all cylinders overpowered her opponent 6-2, 6-2.
The young lady, one of Nigeria's medal hopefuls at the All Africa Games displayed a perfect mastery of the game when she out served the Spaniard on her way to obtaining a ticket for second round billed to serve off this morning at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Court.
Abinu Fatimoh, who defeated compatriot Seun Ogundare 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to berth in the second round will meet Khoo Chin-Bee, while Biodun Oyegoke who saw off fellow Nigerian, Taiwo Aminat in two straight sets of 6-3, 6-2 to also book a place in the second round.
Another Nigerian, Hannah Eke walked over Germany's Huttmann Hendrike-Len to get into the money spinning second round
________________________________________
INterestingly, the Nigerian tennis federation has sent its best players to a training camp in germany to prepare for the African games. Thios means that Femi Odeyemi-Musa and Osaro Amadin (the 2 Nigerians with a ranking) along with 2 others, are missing these 2 10k's.
Seems a bit stupid to me.
paul_masterton Aug 13th, 2003, 06:30 PM i'm pretty sure tehy mean Eva Fernandez-Bruges, not Eva fernandez-Bri :p
nkoth Aug 14th, 2003, 04:34 AM Jay found an article in the Nigerian newspaper This Day:
Clara Udofa recorded another easy win in the ongoing Heineken International Tennis Champioship when she overpowered her home-based counterpart, Hannah Eke in two straight sets of 6-0, 6-2 ... Udofa who saw of the fifth seeded, Fernadez-Bri Eva in the first round of the competition is expected to face a tough opposition from Phadke, who is ranked fourth in the Heineken tourney and 724 by the WTA ... Also in the race for the semi-final ticket are the Abramovic sisters, Ana and Maria. While Maria defeated Russia's Anastasiu Arca 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to move into the next stage, Ana out served Pereira 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 to move into the quarterfinal stage ... Today, Ana will struggle for a place among the front runners when she confronts the big hitting Michelle Snyman. He sister, Maria has Chin-Bee Khoo, the lady who threw out Nigeria's Abinu Fatimoh of the race to contend with.

Palicot Aug 15th, 2003, 01:40 PM Another article from This Day
Playing before a mixed crowd of tennis fans and players, Nigeria's UK-based tennis professional, Clara Udofa failed in her bid to book a place in the semi-final billed to serve off this morning at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.
In her encounter that lasted over two hours, Indian-born Sonia Phadke put a stop to Udofa's move beating her 6-3, 4-6. 7-5. Udofa until her exit from the international tourney yesterday was the only Nigerian left in the money spinning championship.
Speaking shortly after the loss, Nigeria's only hopeful at the All Africa Games admitted to being a little tired and made a couple of mistakes that cost her the match.
"Well, I made some mistakes here and there that turned out to be costly," adding ''that is the way of the game''.
She said despite her loss, she is very optimistic that she will do well at the coming All Africa Games.
Though, Udofa lost in the quarterfinal stage, she gathered enough points to give her a place in the Futures-11 also billed for the same venue.
She said after that championship, she would join the tennis team on training tour of Germany.
On her part, Phadke said she was just lucky to have run away with the victory, saying that she meet a tough opponent in Udofa. While thanking the organisers of the event for the free accommodation and feeding given them Phadke said, she will leave the country with fond memories of the hospitality.
She meets Chin-Bee Khoo in today's encounter

jayakris Aug 16th, 2003, 10:23 PM Sonal wins the title! .. Here is the news from "The Hindu" newspaper, India.
Sonal Phadke defeated the third-seeded Michelle Snyman of South Africa 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the title in the $10,000 ITF women's circuit tennis tournament in Lagos, Nigeria, on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Sonal, seeded four, had earlier knocked out the top-seeded Chin Bee Khoo of Malaysia 7-6 (11-9), 2-6, 6-3 in the semifinals, on way to her maiden title at this level. She saved three set points in the first set.
Sonal had got past wild card entrant Clara Udofa of Nigeria 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the quarterfinals. The second-seeded Megha Vakharia went down 2-6, 4-6 to Michelle Snyman in the semifinals, after beating Rebecca Dandeniya of Britain 6-1, 6-2. Megha, however, had little difficulty in clinching the doubles title with Chin Bee Khoo, as the top-seeded pair cruised past Anca Anastasiu of South Africa and Jennifer Debodt of Belgium, hardly dropping a game in the final.
Earlier the Indo-Malaysian combination had beaten Rebecca Dandeniya and Michelle Snyman 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals.
