The answer is yes:)

It is written Isroilova, but is pronounced Israilova, and you should pron. all vocals.

salima: I thought it was the reverse. It is written Isarailova in all official draws and everything, but is said as "Isroilova" in Uzbekistan.

If not on the stress pars of the word the O is pron, A. :)
Now we all can test our knowledge with another Tennis name from Uzbekistan: Oleg Ogodorov:eek: = Alek Agadorov

I hope my teacher isn´t:mad: now

I have some more for practice :

Oqgul Omonmurodova = Akgul Amanmuradova

Also interesting :

Iroda To'laganova = Iroda Tulyaganova

For Oleg Ogodorov, I have the same name in English in my "Uzbek / English" Asian Championships leaflet :o .

Thanks :)

So it's actually spelt wrong on drawsheets, which have 'Israilova'? And on the rankings, they've got 'Isroilova', so that's right?

The same goes with To'laganova and Tulyaganova :) .

I believe there is no rule of thumbs as to which one should be used :) .

I would have written Tålaganåva, but then the English would have trouble.
You are right Steveg, there is, from what I know no written rule how to transkript from cyrillic leters into latin letters. Anvar, who is a member here is a master of expaining this, and to make it understandable.:)

let us say IVANNA:kiss: :bounce:
