I don't like this draw, it will be extremely difficult for the Brits to qualify, but good luck to them aswell as Karolina Sprem, who I want to lose to Katie.

Good Luck to the Brits

In a change of plan, I am now going to watch tomorrow's play (as well as Saturday and Sunday).

To come through the qualifiers, my predictions are:

- Maria Kondratieva
- Kathrin Woerle
- Sophie Lefevre
- Nan Nan Liu
- Karolina Sprem
- Anna Hawkins
- Yan-ze Xie
- Lauren Breadmore

Feb 16th, 2003, 11:44 PM
My predictions for the qualifiers are;
1. Amanda Janes (hoping)
2. Holly Bagshaw (the others in that section aren't very good)
3. Sophie LeFevre
4. Jana Hlavakova
5. Karolina Sprem (I hope that O'Brien would qualify though)
6. Caroline Maes
7. Yan-Ze Xie (quite an easy part of the draw, anyone could qualify)
8. Nicole Rencken

These will all probably be completely wrong.

dear me, what terrible results again for the brits.
It looks like amanda should have won,but should do better next week in the 10k's
Hannah has been terrible all season, so it's just as i expected.
Very suprised by Katies score, but very good for Karolina. (Laughable)
Lets hope for some better results in the main draw

Holly deserved better than the score suggests. She fought really hard in the rallies, against the 2nd seed Topalova, but just couldn't get the winners. Hannah was indeed terrible.

I was also very disappointed with Nan Nan Liu. She doesn't seem to have progressed much, if at all, since she played in the four British challengers at the start of last year.

Finally, I thought this in Hull, and her performance today confirmed that Nicole Rencken could do with losing a few pounds! Several people who I was talking to today thought exactly the same thing. She was playing well enough, but just wasn't quick enough around the court.

Lebescond was very hot-tempered in her defeat, regularly contesting line-calls. Tournament referee Jane Harvey had to be called on court twice in that match.

I took lots of photos. It will however probably be a couple of days before I get a selection of them on to my WTAworld gallery.

Also, the MD wildcards are Jane O'Donoghue (as previously announced), Karen Paterson and Lindsay Reilly. Also there's a junior exemption wildcard for Jarmila Gaidosova (as at Southampton last week).

Nicole

Did you really think Nicole needs to lose some weight? I saw her playing in Mt. Gambier, and she looked quite OK there. She was moving round the court fine, and she didn't look fat! Unless she put on some kilo's over Christmas? I always thought Grandin would be better if she lost a bit of weight.

sarah...I agree, Grandin could definately benefit from losing a bit (but still she's doing OK regardless!)

Lauren :D Paul, Lauren is quite petite and a great scrambler. She has no real weapons, just uses her brains and hangs in every point. Dont know what to make of the Ahl comparison as Ive never seen Ahl play...
