I dont like the 16 seed thing, makes the results pretty obvious. Can't see a huge degree of upsets, certainly not from the Brits anyway.
spiceboy Feb 9th, 2003, 08:02 PM Go Kaia & Vera
If Anne Laure doesn't win this match...
Thanx Paul!!!
england_rules Feb 9th, 2003, 08:25 PM Go Brits!
Ted of Teds Tennis Feb 9th, 2003, 08:26 PM Paul:
Why would you have expected upsets from the Brits if there were only eight seeds? :p :p
bluepastures Feb 9th, 2003, 08:26 PM Hannah Collin's got a very tough match. Voskoboeva made the final in Tipton.
Douchevina's a very good junior, so I think she's got a good chance against Gehrlein.
It's 8 qualifiers, so my predictions are:
Kanepi
Sprem
Douchevina
Heitz
Van De Ven
Voskoboeva
Boulykina
Dell'Angelo
Pdm1987 Feb 9th, 2003, 08:56 PM Good Luck To all Brits;

Galina Voskoboeva
Holly Bagshaw
Olivia Sanchez

rusty_red_head Feb 10th, 2003, 11:17 AM Go Luck To Lauen Breadmore she is playing well and be carefull cause she's going to upset lots of people this year!!
You go girl
AUSBOY Feb 10th, 2003, 12:31 PM Go Lauren, fantastic to see that she is not hanging around in Australia until the Bendigo Challenger. This girl has something all the other aussie girls don't have, and thats intelligence with scheduling, must be cos she was dux at her score receiving a perfect score! Good on her, she's gonna succeed and be in the top 250 very soon!
TS Feb 10th, 2003, 12:39 PM Go Lauren :)
Will she come back for Bendigo in 2 weeks time? Or stay in Europe...it's amazing how many Aussie girls are hopeless at scheduling (look how many missed out on India and Doha), Lauren looks to be an exception...some tough players in her section but on current form she can beat them.
Go Vera D also :)
bluepastures Feb 10th, 2003, 01:24 PM Breadmore's 4th alternate for qualifying in Redbridge next week, so chances are she'll probably just get in. However, she's committed to nothing in Europe the following week, so I suspect she could be going back to Australia.
spiceboy Feb 10th, 2003, 01:30 PM Pfffff, can't believe reigning Wimbledon junior champs doesn't get a WC in England
bluepastures Feb 10th, 2003, 01:31 PM 1st qualifying round
Heitz (FRA) BEAT South (GB) 6-3, 6-3
bluepastures Feb 10th, 2003, 01:34 PM In challengers, wild-cards are almost always given to home players.
paul_masterton Feb 10th, 2003, 01:40 PM Mel  but a good try
King Aaron Feb 10th, 2003, 03:04 PM Good luck Vera, Helena and Giulia!

You mean in England, right?
bluepastures Feb 10th, 2003, 04:01 PM No, not at all. In all countries they're going to favour the home players. Look at the Bergamo 10k this week. 7 out of the 8 wildcards to Italians. It's the home federation's choice, and naturally they're going to want to promote home talent.
Of course at WTA events, you've got other issues, such as crowd popularity or tv ratings, which aren't really an issue for challengers.
bluepastures Feb 10th, 2003, 04:06 PM No more scores yet, but some results:
Llewellyn BEAT Rencken
Paterson LOST TO Kondratieva
Bagshaw LOST TO Lefevre
sartrista7 Feb 10th, 2003, 04:35 PM a Vera Douchevina sighting :bounce: Davay!
good luck Kaia Kanepi, Aiko Nakamura and Capucine Rousseau as well
Monica_Rules Feb 10th, 2003, 04:45 PM OMG Rebecca won a match:eek::D
Kylli Feb 10th, 2003, 07:16 PM Kaia has found her winning ways again! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
6-2 6-4
Congratulations to her and all her fans! :) :)
paul_masterton Feb 10th, 2003, 08:16 PM Holly lost 64 16 64. She just needs to win a couple of these tight matches and seh will be on her way. She's so talented.
Karen lost 64 61, so she actualyl did quite well in the 1st set considering the gulf in class.
Becky won 64 76(4) amazing!
Hannah lost 63 75. I know Galina is good but still pathetic. She better not get a wimbledon wild card ahead of Crook, Moore or Borwell this year. If she does i'll go mental.
BK4ever Feb 10th, 2003, 08:23 PM Kaia :bounce: :bounce:
Congrats Kaia...keep it up...I want to see you in the top 100 by years end :D
