Sarah, And she made it as a qualifier beating bye in her only match;)

DutchieGirl
Jan 29th, 2003, 12:07 AM
oohhhhhhhh! Does she still get quallie points then? :D If so then she doubles her points instantly! ;) hehe Then I guess it's not so bad if she loses first round MD>.. at least she'll have quallie points! ;)

aceman
Jan 29th, 2003, 12:09 AM
I'm not sure if she will get her 0.75 points

Not fair to get 0.75 if she loses in first and someone with a direct entry gets nothing for the same loss.

DutchieGirl
Jan 29th, 2003, 12:15 AM
lol yeah... that's what I was thinking... but they had that last year at some of the SOuth American events... players got a bye from quallies right into MD, and I'm pretty sure they still got the quallie points, and so even if they lost 1st r, they got more points than people who were already in MD and lost first round! lol

Well, I hope she gets the points, and a win! ;) She needs then! hehe

Keiko has an unranked WC who has yet to win a match in satellites in 3 tries. Great chance for Keiko to get a round in.

If Kristin does not at least get to the quarters she should pack it in. There's no reason she should fall before the semis.

All the best to:

* Chin-Bee Khoo (MAS) :bounce:
* Keiko Tameishi (JPN) ;)
* Naoko Horikawa (JPN)
* Kanako Yano (JPN)
* Misae Sakai (JPN)
* Chia-Jung Chuang (TPE) :)

All 4 Japanese players in the same quarter... :rolleyes:

Bradshaw, I really doubt Keiko's gonna win this one. Paula did very well in the warm-up last week beating higher ranked players and pushing Van Elden in the SF.

Chia-Jung's gonna be tested in the 1st rd against Eden...

Breadmore takes title

Third seed Lauren Breadmore of Melbourne won the singles title at the Wellington Women's International defeating countrywoman Dubravka Cupac of Sydney in a tough three set battle.

The match lasted for well over two hours and impressed the large crowd with the aggressive play from both finalists.

Breadmore, 19 and ranked 405 started the match well by racing to a 2-0 lead before eventually closing out the set 6-3.

The second set was a total reversal of form as Cupac, 17 won 6-2.

In the third set it was Cupac who broke Breadmore's serve in the first game and then held her own serve for a 2-0 lead.

The younger player continued to approach the net and put Breadmore under pressure gaining the upper hand with a 5-3 lead.

However the experience of Breadmore showed through in the end as she won the next four games for an overall 6-3 2-6 7-5 victory.

"I was lacking a hell of a lot of confidence when I started the tournament. I'm just thrilled I won the tournament and can take confidence into my second year as a professional," said Breadmore.

Well done Lauren :) Well deserved. Not enough credit is given to her, she is a great little player and most of the other Aussie girls could learn a few things from her hard work and dedication.

Bad luck Dubravka :(...tough way to lose :sad: Great to see her on the right track though, it's about time she made an impact in the seniors.

One thing I dont understand Lauren saying in that interview, is she was lacking confidence before the tournament began...:confused: She's playing the best tennis of her life!!! Probably still burned after that tough loss to Vanc at AO qualies...
