tough to choose between Vanny and Jana - would be great to see Vanny finally crack top 100, but I want Jana to win more because she really needs a good run before her Memphis points fall off :( just hope the winner can go far. :)

CP = Circuit Points
they got those in the 3 preceeding 10k events over last three weeks.
The ones with the most CP's get a place into a higher level tourn.

Hurley, Vanny has never actually cracked the top 100, but she's on her way! Big points come off, however, at Lipton, where she qualified and reached the 2r with a win over Serna, and then one of the Japanese grass 50K tourneys where she won last year... Does anyone know the deadline for French Open entries? Hopefully Vanny will be ranked high enough for direct entry!

Pastikova won the final :) :)

Pastikova nets Challenger title, check for $3,000

The 22-year-old Czech beats Petra Rampre in 3 sets.

BILL WOLVERTON , Rockford Register Star

ROCKFORD -- Michaela Pastikova had a long day at the $25,000 USTA Challenger of Rockford on Sunday.

But it was profitable one.

The 22-year-old from the Czech Republic cashed a $3,000 check for winning the singles title, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 over Petra Rampre, and a $350 bonus for finishing second in doubles.

"I was too tired for doubles," Pastikova said.

But one hour after beating Rampre in a two-hour and two-minute slugfest, Pastikova and partner Valentina Sassi lost to Seda Noorlander and Debby Haak 7-5, 6-4 in the doubles final.

It ended a week in which Pastikova played four rounds of the main draw -- in both doubles and singles -- after taking two months off to work on her serve.

"It's tough coming back and playing after just practicing for two months," Pastikova said. "But I was tired of practicing."

And now, after three hours and 15 minutes and 50 games Sunday, she's tired of playing.

It looked like an easy day for Pastikova after she broke Rampre's first service game and won the first set 6-3 in 37 minutes.

But Rampre changed her strategy in the first set after she went down 3-0.

"I was going to stay back and hit with her," Rampre said. "Then I decided I wanted to serve-and-volley again. It was the right game plan."

But one that didn't pan out until the second set, when Rampre's serve caught up with her volley.

The 23-year-old from Slovenia hit 53 percent of her serves in the first set and 77 percent in the second set.

Rampre seemed back to her dominating self when she broke Pastikova's second service game in the third set and held serve to go up 3-1. But she lost two of her next service games, and instead of being the passer like in her semifinal win, she was the passee.

Rampre lost 23 of 46 points when she came to the net Sunday, a stark contrast to Saturday's 30-of-39 mark.

"I tried to take advantage of her coming to the net so much," Pastikova said. "It was not easy."

Both singles finalists will come away from the tournament with improved rankings.

Rampre, who started the week at 491, will be close to 385 in Midland, Mich., today. Pastikova will improve from 222 to around 200.

"I'm tired," Pastikova said. "But it was worth it."
