yes TBE - go watch Karen for the looks, and Linzi for the hurling abuse at umpires.

Tink Anna White, only add a scottish accent, swearing and times the volume by 10 :p

lol MR i remember that.

I also thought it was funny when she dumped a forhand into teh net to hand Gibb the match:

"There you go, that was easy. Didn't ahve to do much really did you?"

And then she spent the next 4 hours crying.

Liana Balaci (ROM) BEAT Nicole Rencken (RSA) 6-3, 6-3

Nice to see the LTA regularly posting updates!

Also I think Linzi Reilly wasn't too wise going straight into this tournament as the first event of her year. Most of the Brits, like Amanda Janes, have warmed up with British tour events.

Linzi  but good try.

BP she i think she was in USA, where she is actually based. That's why she leaved UK in May and jets off to USA and Canada.

Waste of a wc though, 0 points - woo-pee!

Hopefully she played well, that girl needs some more consistency and then she'll get somewhere.

Surprised to see Nicole getting whipped.

Amanda :)

Elke Clijsters (Bel) bt Frederica Piedade (Por) 6-1 6-3 :)

Lynsey Davison (Gbr) bt Svetlana Mossiakova (Rus) 6-4 6-1 :D

Overall, a good day for the Brits. Except Hannah, all the losers put on solid showings against much higher ranked opponents. Hopefully this bodes well for the rest of the year, usually all of them woulda lost r1.

Doubles draw has been altered as Doyle has withdrawn.

For soem reason, the third seeds have been moved into top seeds place (Doyle/Zachariadou) instead of 2nd team, and Hawkins/Collins become 4th seeds and take on Reilly/Renken.

Don't understand changes

So what are the chances for the remaining Brits?

Paterson: Boulykina's very inconsistent. If she's playing well, she'll beat Paterson easily. However, if she not playing too well, Paterson could win it in three. Paterson's one of the few Brits, who in terms of power of shot, can compete with Boulykina.

Davison: Should be totally outclassed by Clijsters.

Janes: I quite fancy Janes to beat Voskoboeva. Her ranking definitely on the up.

Today's final never really reached the standard of yesterday's Clijsters V Groenefeld semi. Anna-Lena started very slowly, struggling in her first service game, and then getting broken in her 2nd to give Tessy an early 3-1 lead.
Being a break down seemed to scare Anna-Lena, and she broke back immediately. For the remainder of the set, both players held serve comfortably (never worse than 40-15).
In the tie-break, Tessy's serve deserted her. There were no long rallies, as the breaker slipped away from Van De Ven. Once Anna-Lena led 6-2, Tessy did hold her serve but it was too late.
In the second set, Tessy took some time to recover from losing the 1st, and was broken to trail 0-3. Although she managed to regain her rhythm somewhat, she never threatened Anna-Lena's serve again.

Incidentally, Anna-Lena has had strapping round her ankles this tournament. This, according to her coach, is a "recurring ligament problem" although she isn't in pain during her matches.

Doubles final: Boulykina & Voskoboeva BEAT Clijsters & Majstorovic 4-6, 7-6, 6-3

Something of a marathon, this match. Voskoboeva started very badly, struggling to hit anything in court. Boulykina is quite clearly the dominant player of the two, and it was important that she kept encouraging Voskoboeva.
In the end, the height of Boulykina proved crucial, she spent a lot of time at the net, and in the final set, must have hit 4 or 5 excellent smashes.

As can be seen in my signature, some photos will be coming into my gallery soon from this tournament. For most of them, the quality isn't too great, due to either watching from behind glass or nets. Despite their promises, they didn't put seats out beside the court for spectators today.

Finally, I will be going to the final 2 days of Tipton (the qualifying for which starts tomorrow, as TBE said, although no draw is available yet)

I think Van Hartingsveldt may have to go through the qualifying draw for Tipton, unlike Hull.

no... she was last in for MD at Tipton on the entry list... so she should be in MD!
