selesfan1 Oct 1st, 2002, 09:41 PM Ithouhgt for sure Amy would play in Tokyo. By the way she hadbeen playing she had a good chance to win there.
rated_next Oct 1st, 2002, 11:47 PM Why is Amy playing here?
Is this where she lives and she wants to compete here to say bye to her fans before she retires?
Or does she just want to win a tournament? ;)
Good luck to Alina and the other women :)
CB Oct 1st, 2002, 11:56 PM Does anyone have the R3 qualifying results?!!!!!
Thanks ;)
polishprodigy Oct 2nd, 2002, 01:40 AM Too bad for Jana, she will get crushed first round by Amy. :( GOod luck to Marie-Eve, I'm looking for an upset! ;)
Task Oct 2nd, 2002, 02:15 AM Good luck Kristina:)
Jakeev Oct 2nd, 2002, 04:21 AM I don't think Amy lives in California. But the way her ranking was slipping I have a feeling she had committed to the tournament a while ago prior to her sudden resurgence.
Either way it will be good points for her if she does well.
BK4ever Oct 2nd, 2002, 05:03 AM Amy is retiring at the end of the year, so I see no point in playing a challenger

Why is Alina Jidkova always playing challengers ? I think she's the highest-ranked player who is still mainly playing theses events in the USA. She's not even playing in Moscow.
TheBoiledEgg Oct 2nd, 2002, 01:07 PM thats her comfort zone

still she should have come to Moscow

CoryAnnAvants#1 Oct 3rd, 2002, 03:01 AM I talked to Amy at the Open and she said it was her last US Open, not that she'd retire at the end of the year. For all we know she might retire at the 2003 Pilot Pen. She also had crap results before the Open, so she could change her mind like many players have. I doubt it, but it is possible.
roscoe111 Oct 3rd, 2002, 05:06 AM Alina Jidkova has the talent to be a top twenty player but perhaps not the motivation anymore. Consistently getting to the latter rounds of Challenger events is more financially rewarding than losing in the qualies of bigger tournaments.
She is fun to watch though. All the shots and a lively disposition as well.
What has happened to her website?

Desire to stay in U.S. appeals to top player
By Ken Robison
The Fresno Bee
(Published Thursday, October 3, 2002, 4:00 AM)
Amy Frazier insists there's nothing complicated about her appearance in Fresno.
The 30-year-old touring tennis pro from Michigan is ranked No. 46 in the world, and most players at that level are in Japan or Moscow this week on the WTA Tour.
Not Frazier, who decided not to travel overseas after the U.S. Open. She looked at a schedule, saw the Herwaldt Motors Fresno Challenger and hopped on a plane to California.
"I love playing matches, that's why I play this game," Frazier said, munching on an apple before her match against Jana Nejedly at Copper River Country Club. "I wanted to stay closer to home. This tournament was in the [United States] and on hard courts. It was a good opportunity to play some matches."
Simple as that, Frazier became the No. 1 seed in a tournament mostly filled with players ranked in the 90s and 100s. Despite a shaky opening set, she justified that seed Wednesday night with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Nejedly.
Frazier's résumé is one most of this week's challenger players aspire to: Ranked as high as No. 13 in the world, six career singles titles, $2.4 million in career earnings, quarterfinalist at Australian Open (1992) and the U.S. Open ('95). She reached the fourth round of the U.S. Open last month.
Still, Frazier doesn't feel underwhelmed by playing in her first Challenger event since 1998.
"Women's tennis is so deep these days, everyone is so good at every level," she said. "Rankings are irrelevant; you have to be ready to play every point. If I felt [overconfident], I'd lose in the first round."
Frazier faces 20-year-old Canadian Marie-Eve Pelletier this afternoon, and experience could be crucial. Frazier has been a touring pro for 16 years -- she played a Virginia Slims event on her 14th birthday -- while Pelletier is just two years removed from the junior ranks.
And two years removed from her breakthrough weekend in Fresno.
Pelletier was an 18-year-old amateur when she qualified for the Fresno Challenger at Sierra Sport & Racquet Club two years ago. She made the final, losing to Rachel McQuillan, and turned pro the next week -- breaking the hearts of several college coaches.
Today's headline match, at 5 p.m. on center court, features Fresnan Robert Kendrick against American Kevin Kim.
Kendrick and partner Peter Luczak, a former Fresno State All-American, play the night doubles match against Czechs Jan Hernych and Petr Kralert. The locals defeated Americans Levar Harper-Griffith and Alex Bogomolov 6-4, 6-0 Wednesday.
Second-round action concludes today, with quarterfinals scheduled for Friday, semifinals Saturday and finals Sunday.
The reporter can be reached at krobison@fresnobee.com or 441-6279.
BK4ever Oct 3rd, 2002, 04:37 PM He got a little fact wrong...Amy has left the US since the US Open.
Her reason is bullshit, because she was already in Asia and could have simply stayed. I think she has another reason for being there.

I'm too lazy to start a thread...but I'm sure many of you would be intersted to know that MARIA SHARAPOVA has entered a 25K in Frisco, TX for the week of 10/21.
TheBoiledEgg Oct 5th, 2002, 04:59 PM i knew that she did already ;)
another 25K, she should be playing more higher level of comp than that
¤CharlDa¤ Oct 5th, 2002, 05:01 PM Your welcome Baranschikova fan!!!!!!! Good to know another quebecois here!!!!!!!!!
Marie-Eve will continue to go up and I think will reach the top 100 next year!!!!! With her best surface being clay, she hasn't played last year on it because of an injury!!!!!
Go Marie-Eve and go Melanie Marois!!!!!!
BK4ever Oct 5th, 2002, 05:04 PM Eggy, I think its a strategic move on their part in trying to make sure she gets into Aus Qualies. She has a better chance of winning some matches here and gaining valuable points than at a higher quality tournament.

Renata!:(
TatiAnnahølic Oct 5th, 2002, 07:43 PM Go Marissa :D
BK4ever Oct 5th, 2002, 07:50 PM Yeah, I hope Brie beats Marissa (who should have taken her ass to Filderstadt Qualies instead of playing a $50K).
I also hope Alinka beats Amy. Players ranked as high as Amy should not be allowed to play $50K's. Its total bullshit.
Tennisfan-Mtl Oct 5th, 2002, 07:57 PM Well...BK4ever...Alina's ranking is almost as good as Amy's...So if it's bullshit for Amy, it's bullshit for Alina....I even think Alina's ranking was BETTER than Amy's a couple of months ago...Amy's ranking was then in the low 70s...
BK4ever Oct 5th, 2002, 08:15 PM Tennisfan...u got me there, but we all know Alina is afraid of the main tour :D
CoryAnnAvants#1 Oct 5th, 2002, 08:20 PM OK BK, I'll be good about Bea;) Dulko is a nasty doubles player, so her volleys definitely match w/Bea's serve. It's a good team IMO.
Amy:rolleyes:
TheBoiledEgg Oct 5th, 2002, 08:21 PM Alinka did bt Amy in Big Island last yr ;)
she has won a few matches on the main tour
BK4ever Oct 5th, 2002, 08:35 PM I dont understand why she doesnt play the tour more. Below are her best results on the tour this year. They are not too shabby. Do u know why she would play a challenger when she has the rank to get into qualies draws?

I then proceeded to tell her that we fans make her career, what little of it she has, and that she needs to learn to respect people a bit more. I haven't spoken with her since.
BK4ever Oct 6th, 2002, 05:10 AM thats messed up...she will have to be put on my shit list for a while :D
TS Oct 6th, 2002, 05:47 AM Brie :o lol, I would never let any spoilt brat talk to me like that! Glad to see you told her where to go!!!

Tennisfan-Mtl Oct 6th, 2002, 01:34 PM I have a feeling Marissa will win it in three sets....
Tennisfan-Mtl Oct 6th, 2002, 06:07 PM At what time does the final start ???
Monica_Rules Oct 6th, 2002, 06:22 PM God Amy:o
VSFan1 aka Joshua L. Oct 6th, 2002, 07:52 PM Well done Amy ;)
I have a feeling she won't retire this year
Ritchie - Tara is the queen bitch of challengers. She think she owns the tournametns she played in just because she was ranked #35 YEARS ago. All the players really have a big disgust for her....so it's a wonder how she finds doubles partners.
CoryAnnAvants#1 Oct 6th, 2002, 07:59 PM OMG Brie is so nice (to me at least.) She's not going on my shit list until I hear another bad incident. Everyone has bad days. Tara on the other hand..
She screamed at me during her qualy match at the US Open this year. I was taking pictures of the match and she screamed at me for doing so. I didn't even have the damn flash on! She wins the next point and turns to me and says "If you weren't fucking taking pictures during that last point, I would be up 4-2. But now it's deuce. Thanks a lot!"
Tennisfan-Mtl Oct 6th, 2002, 08:00 PM OMG....What a ***** !!!!
Any other "horror" stories about Snyder ???
ghosts Oct 6th, 2002, 09:46 PM I don't who to cheer for.............
Amy or Marissa ??
Tennisfan-Mtl Oct 7th, 2002, 12:41 AM Anyone has the final result ???
:)
aceman Oct 7th, 2002, 12:52 AM Amy won 6-4,6-1
Tennisfan-Mtl Oct 7th, 2002, 01:00 AM Thanks :)
Well done, Amy :)
kournikovafan13 Oct 7th, 2002, 01:06 AM Congrats Amy :D, although I don't know what the hell you were doing here in the first place
rated_next Oct 7th, 2002, 01:23 AM Marissa :(
TheBoiledEgg Oct 7th, 2002, 04:25 AM bad luck Marissa  :(
Richie77 Oct 7th, 2002, 04:33 AM Congratulations, Amy...you've had your fun, now go back to the WTA Tour where you belong :)
:o at the Tara stories. She could've used all that energy yelling to, um, I don't know...play tennis?
King Aaron Oct 7th, 2002, 09:23 AM Well done Amy :)
MLF Oct 7th, 2002, 11:09 AM Well done Amy. She's up to #40 in the rankings this week. OK, maybe she is a bit too good for this kind of field but I don't know why she was singled out for criticism. Irvin at #79 last week is too tough for a $50K as well.
Tennisfan-Mtl Oct 7th, 2002, 12:05 PM MirjanaLfan : I totally agree with you. Also, Alina Jidkova (even though I don't know her specific ranking) is ranked somewhere in the top 100 also. Her ranking was also higher than Amy's a couple of months ago....:)
auntie janie Oct 7th, 2002, 12:11 PM LOL, that one is enough for me! :)
Monaco Oct 7th, 2002, 12:58 PM they are two of my favourite players but i was hoping irvin would win as she needed the points more.
frazier should have played the japan open and would have probably won it. she's got an incredible record in japan - marissa would have won fresno.
isn't frazier supposed to retire at the end of the season?
TatiAnnahølic Oct 8th, 2002, 03:21 PM Marissa :(
