After an extremely dissappointing Roland Garros, Agnes Szavay came on to the grass and is ready to win her first title. Agnes has made numeros Quarter finals, Semi finals and finals but is yet to grab the title. She is Birmingham with the hope that she will be the top dog and show everyone taht she should be in the top 3 again. Agnes experience a bad chute to number five in the world and making it a round longer then the other seeds should be enough to secure a rising in the ranks.

Agnes Szavay was awfully excited yesterday and wandered through her hotel looking for a person to play for fun. It was around three thiry and bordem was setting in for all players. She bumped into Laura Robson whom had a spa appointment, Jelena Jankovic who was going to trhe gym, Steffi Graf wanted to play but she was recovering from jwt lag. Sania Mirza and MAria Kirilenko wanted to but were in the middle of an intense thumb war. Finally She stumbled across Justine Henin. Ju JU was alone siting and bored as hell, so Agnes approaced and they were rea=dy to play. The finally got on court and were tied at one one. BUT Agnes didnt want to play and weny back to her hotel room.

Roland Garros singles finalist and doubles champion prepares to take Birmingham by storm!

Ashley Harkleroad it's fair to say had the most succesful two weeks in Paris on tour. Despite falling at the final hurdle in singles she manages to capture the doubles title with long time friend Jelena Dokic! This caused her ranking to jump massively and she enjoys being seeded for the 1st tmie ever!

'Being seeded is great it means people see you as more of a threat and you can avoid the big names untill later. I am glad that I am on the other side of the draw to Jankovic too. But with that comes a pressure, people expect you do do well and everyone wants to beat you. I hope I will be able to handle it.'

'I've not had too much time to practice however as I've had a lot of media attention in light of my success in Roland Garros. So I will just have to take every match as it comes. My confidence is really high at the moment so I hope to keep this up!'

How do you like the Birmingham?
Therses nothing to see its miserable. Luckily It helps me concentrate on my tennis. There isnt a store in 60 miles and there are cows everywhere. Other tahn that its pleasant.

Grass Courts, Love em' Hate em'?
Im in between, My serve is awesom on grass. My ace count doubles. I also hit my fastest serve on this surface. I hate the moing on the grass. YOu really have to glide over the grass unlike clay where you stomp.

Best Friend on tour?
Dani ois my hitting partner and shes hilarious. JJ is my "wingman". Me and Maria SHarapova like to beat little boys up and Nadia Petrova is just like me so we get along. Anne Keothavong and I love to talk movies [laughs]

Boyfriend?
Marat and I are on a break. So ive moved to Roger, hes okay.

What are you doing with you free time?
In Birmingham, NOTHINg. Otherwise I love crosswords and Mensa. In good at board games to. Im a movie buff at heart too lol.

Q - so Laura, how are you finding Birmingham so far?
Robson - its ok i suppose. i mean i can think of worse places to be right now

Q - how do you feel your chances are in this tournament?
Robson - i think i can get through a few rounds for sure. id love to win but that sure as hell aint gonna happen

Q - how do you get along with other players?
Robson - not very well really. they are all so old! i mean, no one wants to play with me and my barbie dolls during a rain delay, most of them are boring and just sit in the corner with their eyes closed. i ask them what they are doing and they shoo me away.

Q - care to mention anyone in particular?
Robon - no because they'll shout at me

Q - you played your first grand slam event last week at the french open, how was that for you?
Robson - well i qualified for the main draw, then lost to patty schnyder in round 1. it was so strange, the stands were empty expect for these three people who kept singing this stupid little song. i wish i could understand what they were saying but they were talking gibberish. then the 3 of them started doing a mexican wave which went on for 10 minutes. then as i walked off court, they booed me, i really dont know why, i guess they just didnt like me (:awww:)

Q - oh dont take that personally, they do it all the time. so you have Zheng Jie in round 1, what do you know about her game?
Robson - i've never heard of her in my life. so i have no idea. time will tell

What has been your proudest moment in life so far?

Well the day i TURNED PRO, i WAS SO HAPPY AND READY TO BURST OUT IN TEARS OF JOY. You know as a tennis player you need that time to define your career and to me the start is a defining moment.

If you couldn't play tennis, which talent would you most like to have?
I would love to be a good singer. As you can probably tell from my grunts and shouts my voice isnt the prettiest or the nicest. Also The creative side of singing is so awesome to me.

Who is your favorite commentator and why?
I dont like any except for Mary Carillo Pam hates me and is obsessed with my ass. Martina is blah. John is obbsessed with my brest and Mary Jo is a dits

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
No surprises here. :-( HAHAHHAH No im kidding. People might be suprised that I am a good writer. I was featured in magazinzes for my writing not my tennis when I was younger HAHA

Get to know this Taiwanese new comer...
Hsieh just recieved a walkover and then defeated Monica Niculescu to qualify for the DFS Classic in Birminghan.

Tell us about your home town?
Well I was born in Kaohsiung and now I live in Taipei. There both great cities and I have lots of memories there.

Tell us a little bit about your family?
Well my father, he is my coach and the one who introduced me to tennis.
My mother is a normal housewife taking care of my other 6 siblings. Being away from them is hard since i have such a big family and I miss each one of them...

Do you have any tennis heroes past or present?
I think Michael Chang or Ai Sugiyama because they opened up the way for Asian tennis.

What off-court training do you do?
I do tons of swimming and ping pong. Swimming helps with my endurance and strength while ping pong helps with my focus and mentaliy. As you can tell, I dont really like to work out. I hate running....

What is the best memory of your tennis career so far?
So far, just qualifying for a maindraw event is a great feeling...

What kinds of things do you like to do for fun off the court?
I like to shop, but I really enjoy karaoke!!
Its great! just to belch it out is a great stress reliever....

What do you think you would have done if you had not become a tennis player?
Probably a phone sex operator...
It always looked fun to me..*laughs*

British wild card Laura Robson battled though her first round match against Jie Zheng today to set up a second round clash with Ashley Harkleroad. Heres what she had to say when we caught up with her

Q - So laura congratulations on your win today, how do you feel?
Robson - I feel good. it was a good match, it always feels nice to have the supoort from the home crowd.

Q - what was going through your head when you dropped the first set?
Robson - win the next two!

Q - you mentioned yesterday that you dont really get on with some of the players due to your age. Has there been any improvements in the past 24 hours?
Robson - well no actually hey have got worse! like today, i over heard Ashley Harkleroad talking to Maria Kirilenko about her pussy. She also had a photo of it in her hand. i went up and told them about my pet cat tinkebell that i had when i was younger. They looked at me like a was stupid. then i asked if i could see the photo, she said to me that i was too young and told me to go play with my dolls in the corner.

Harkleroad hits back

Roland Garros finalist dismissed 1st Round opponenent Martina Muller, 6-4 6-3, in less than an hour to set up a second round encounter with the child Laura Robson in Birmingham. Here's what she had to say:

This was your first grass court match ever. How did it feel?

Well it's definately different to clay. The bounce is much lower and the ball comes off of the court faster. I thought it would take some time to get used to it but I felt good out there today. I wanted to finish quickly as i've played a lot recently and am starting to feel drained. And everything worked.


You're next round opponent is Laura Robson, who was given a wild card to this tournament after her father bribed the LTA. What are your thoughts on her?

After only one win on tour she is already strutting about like she owns the place. Zie was off her game yesterday and Laura got lucky, the chinese girl was reluctant to hit hard for fear a hurting the frail Robson. I have no such inhibitions. I intend to bring her back down to earth with a bump this is 'Elite Women's Tennis' not 'Children's Playtime'. I hope she doesn't cry, I might buy her a lolly if she's a really good girl.

Q. How would you rate your game today?

AS: I thought it was my game. I thought I played well when I had to. I've played better matches in the past, no doubt. But, you know, a lot of pressure for both of us. It was a bit windy again today. Yeah, I mean, also the opponent plays a role in how good you can play. He made it hard to me in the beginning. All in all, I'm very happy with my performance even though I could always do better.


Q. We know your priority is Wimbledon, but how about this warm up, is it important?

AS: Well, for me, I mean, Wimbledon obviously is always going to be No. 1. But Warm Ups have definitely grown on me the last few years. They are so helpful and can make or break your season on thaat surface. I realize actually the difficulty to win here. I wasn't aware of it in the very beginning when I came on tour really.

Q. Angelika was talking about during the most important points he felt the nerves. Could you sense that from the other side of the net, that at those moments he was much more inexperienced?

AS: Well, you know, it's funny because I never played her before. You know, if you think about it, how similar the matches were to others against people i had never played.But I felt it was really getting tense. Wasn't serving as well anymore, and from the baseline he was afraid to hit the ball. That was with the wind in the back. So I was quite surprised I still got out of that game.

Harkleroad Edges Past Robson

Number 8 seed Ashley Harkleroad very nearly crashed out to British wild card Laura Robson today in Birmingham. The American, who recently posed nude for playboy magazine struggled to find her form in the first set and was outclassed by her younger oppenent. However Robsons form seemed to dip dramatically mid way through the second set after an exchange of words between the two players. Harkleroad eventually prevailed 1-6, 7-6, 6-3. When asked about the incident, Robson had this to say:

"Well it was at the change of ends when Ashley said to me 'remember our deal, you lose and I buy you a lollipop'. Ordinarily I wouldnt listen to such bribes, but I really wanted a lollipop. So I started to tank the match. I dropped my level to about 50%, but it wasn't enough! She was playing so bad, she could barley get the ball in play. So I dropped my level to about 20%, just put the ball in the middle of the court for her to hit. Then when i served all those double faults to hand her the second set, she started to play better in the third, she actually got the ball back into court! So I just carried on at 20% throughout the third to hand her the victory. But I still havent recieved that lollipop!"

Ash schools the little girl!

Earlier today American Ashley Harkleroad defeated the crowd and child Laura Robson to advance to the quarterfinals of Birmingham. Harkleroad started slowly loosing the 1st set 6-1 before fighting back to take the next two. She spoke to us after the match:

'I was disappointed with my play today I was far from my best, but still more than enough for Laura. She put me off put when she walked on with her dummy and bib and had to ask the umpire to tie her shoelaces for her, it took me the 1st set to recover from this. She also used very bad gamesmanship including screaming when I was about to hit the ball and taking frequent toilet breaks, despite the fact we all know she wears a nappy (diaper). The crowd did everything they could to give her the advantage including someone who kept sounding a siren every time I tried to serve and people calling 'out' from the crowd, that's just not cricket!'

'My horrible form continued in the second until about 1/2 way through when I started playing better, and as soon as I did she couldn't do anything. The match finished late [about 6.00] due to rain delays, which was way past her bedtime, but I kept my promise and bought her a massive lollypop after the game, unfortunately this means her much needed diet is not going so well:

I wish her the best of luck in her 3x table and spelling tests this week, i'm sure she'll get the word 'looser' perfectly.


Next I will play Maria Kirilenko, this will be a tough match for sure. There is a reason she is the #2 seed. I will definitely have to up my game if I am too reach the semi finals. I don't think we have played before but I’ve been watching videos of her matches and it looks like we play very similar games. Whoever can win most of the baseline exchanges will win the match. Hopefully it is a tense encounter.

I have no doubles to report on as Matt, the director, has not been seen since he disappeared with Jelena Jankovic into his hotel room late last night. I did however see Jelena just now, she looked tired despite the fact she hasn't had a match today. And her shirt was on back-to-front. Very Odd!

Q. Does defeat hurt more when it's so rare, because it's so rare?

Agnes: Actually it hurts less, you know. Because you win so much, I think you can take a defeat easier. It's not like you're going to expect a defeat, but because of all the success I've had, a loss here or there will arrive. When it happens, all you can just make sure is that you try your best. And I used to have many matches in the past where I thought, came off court and I felt like, “This wasn't a fight. You could’ve fought more. You could’ve tried harder. You could’ve changed things.” You come off the court and you feel like you have regrets. Today, since let's say four, five years, I don't have those anymore, and this is why they're easier to accept. Because I think you have to be able to handle both things the same way.

This is such a great final, as two Americans face off for the first time in a EWTA final. Also this is only one of the three grass tournaments before the Wimbledon, so the winner of this final definately will be one to watch at Wimbledon!!

Venus Williams is our first title winner and our first number one, she has had a consistent season so far! Except the clay season, she lost many first rounds, even at Roland Garros to qualifer Nadia Petrova!! So Venus is coming here without a good form, and she proves that why she played bad at clay, because she really loves grass!! Her road to final is impressive, beating some seeded players and in-form players. She has got the experiences, so she definately has some winning chaces against Ashley!!

But Ashley is playing her best tennis so far in this season, she reached her first Grand Slam final last week at RG, and she proves that her good tennis can be played on every surfaces!! Her road to final is also impressive, beating two Brtish and world number two Maria Kirilenko en route to the final. Although she is just a newcomer, but she has already got some wins against the top 5 players, so will she beat Venus??

Ranings projection

This is probarly the most important thing that Venus and Ashley wants to know!!;)

If Venus won the tournament, Venus will be ranked #14, and Ashley will be ranked #11!!
If Ashley won the tournament, Ashley will be ranked #10, and Venus will still be ranked #16!!

So it's really important for Ashley to reach the top 10 or not!!
And for Venus, it will be a really good imporvement for her, if she loses this final, she will have the same ranking as Serena(#16)!!
