7th of August - After her heroics in the French Fed Cup tie against Serbia, Tatiana headed to Paris with high expectations and ready to thrill her home crowd. Tatiana led a set and 3-1 before controversy struck in her round 1 match against WTL giant-killer Svetlana Kuznetsova. It was the Russian's coach that turned heads, as he'd do anything to stop the world number 2, from clapping faults to coughing when she hit the ball. This caused an outrage by the French fans including Tatiana's fan group "Viva La Tati" as she ended up losing 6-1 3-6 3-6. The Stadium emptied immediately as a disgusted French crowd was shocked by the lack of sportsmanship shown by the coach. Svetlana embarrassed by her coaches' actions personally apologized to Tatiana, the world number 2 forgiving her. "I really don't think Sveta's coach distracted me tonight, I was cruising but I took my foot of the pedal." Tatiana announced, "I'm feeling amazing physically but a struggling mentally" "Ever since the US Open final loss, I've struggled in close matches." "I need to step up my game or I'll be in deep trouble." Golovin will stay in Paris even though she bowed out of doubles actions and fly to Antwerp after the tournament has finished.
