Anyway she filled her potential and got to #19 in the world which is unexpected. It is especially good in my opinion to fill your potential with hard working through your limited talents rathet than being such a wasted talent.

I'll take unfulfilled talent over "hard workers who make the most of their limited abilities" (an euphemism for overachievers) any day. As Lunaris would say, "it's a matter of opinion".

I blame German idealism for having made me think like this.

I concur. They are always the best to watch anyway. Half the players in my sig are already, or will end up being underachievers.

I am not trying to present "boring to watch" player as "exciting to watch" of course but this is my general aim.

Unfortunately, I'm the constant optimist with any players I like. Heck, part of me still thinks Kutuzova could be a half-decent player and that Vaidisova can win a slam. :o

But yeah, I'll settle for bitching about overachievers and hoggers in GM.

This is level above where I am talking - Of course I would prefer to watch Safin or Nalbandian instead of Davydenko.

I am generally talking about Sugiyama,Bammer,Govortsova,Rezai type players.

Good Nalbandian, who shows up about twice every three years, plays the game the way it is supposed to be played. Textbook perfection.

Maybe Nikki's aufhebung is near. Nikki's Hegelian dialectic would go like this:

Rise to the top 10 (2005-2006)

Suckitude (2007-2008)

Glory (2009-)

How do we fit players who are both extremely talented and overachievers, like Chakvetadze, into this equation?

Lunaris
Jul 15th, 2008, 01:32 AM
Wow, I wasn't aware that Bammer has such a ridiculously high ball toss. Dreadful, I can't imagine how tough it must be to toss like that consistently, especially in windy conditions. If I tried that myself I wouldn't be able to hit the ball inside the court.

Well, I personally find these players equally boring. If they are one-dimensional ballbashers like Sharapova or one-dimensional counterpunchers like Jankovic doesn't matter much for me. Jankovic at least has that backhand, but other than that not that big difference.

She is massively hyped,I agree.

But I like watching her play, since she emerged to the tour actually but all those Polish, non Polish hype in the forum isnt for me anyway she is very smart and keeps improving. Her serve is still weak but there arent many players to explode that weakness also she is backing up her serve well once she gets into the rally.

But you know there are two ways for her, either outsmarting her oppenents as she is doing at her many matches, either geting crushed like happened in Wimbledon against Serena. But if she can improve her serve, she is right up there. Also she is keeping her head and cool together, which is rare in womens tennis.

Flushing.

I stand with lenavee and Corswandt on this issue. I find girls who have overstepped their boundaries and achieved way more than their talent should have given them to be bothersome. I do like Sugiyama, but I think she is blessed with the two quickest feet I have ever seen in my life, and I view that as an attribute of talent.
