Hey guys - sorry I didn't do results last night - I was pretty dead after my finals.

Lost the singles 6-7(4) 7-5 7-6(6) in over 3 hours :( - everything that could have went wrong did! Up a set and 2-0 my strings break, get my spare out and on the NEXT point they break too, so I'm stuck playing with my racquet from 4 years ago which is completely different and I hate it. My knee gave way so couldn't push off to serve or run very well. Got cramp in my arm which caused my fingerto lock down on the racquet. Got a warning when a ball fell out my pocket, and then happened 3 other times so got point penalties, so ended up playing with one bal at a time. Soooooooo annoyed - if I had my proper racquet and wasn't injured it was my match!!

But returned hour and a half later to beat the #1s and 4-time defending champions in the mixed doubles 7-5 1-6 6-4, so a bit of a consolation for the singles!! :)

A Winner’s Story

When French youngster Alize Cornet arrived in Melbourne her spirit was not high. A string of 1st round losses after her defeat in the USO final to Marta Domachowska lead to a lack of confidence in her game.

‘Yes it was tough no-one likes loosing. When I first came onto the tour I was full of energy and hope but then my devastating choke against Tatiana and my crushing loss to Makiri really knocked my confidence It was really hard to make that huge run at the USO and then not win a match I though I should have.’

‘Other players soon noticed that I wasn’t winning tournaments and were soon to pick up on my fragile state of mind. Two players in particular really saw their chance to break my spirit I’m not going to mention their names because one has a child and the other is trying to launch a clothes line, which is her name backward, and negative media would not do them good.’

‘I’m not going to lie these players made me feel to bad I considered retiring. My good friend, Nicole Vaidisova, and I seriously talked about retiring together, as I know she wanted to move onto different things on her life AO was supposed to be our last tournament so I decided to just give it everything I had and go out with a bang.

Well you can see the irony – there is no way I’m going anywhere now. That extra motivation was all I needed to bring out my full potential.

When I first found out I’d drawn Martina I wasn’t sure about how I felt. It is better than drawing perhaps the #1 seed but not as good as getting a qualifier to warm-up against. Martina is a player that can really dominate you if you’re not feeling great about your game. So I really had to fight and it was a great match. Neither of us are ball bashers or hit the ball very hard so the variety in the game was incredible. I had to think, shot select and move all the time. Winning this really gave me a confidence boost.

In many ways this was a perfect match for me. I was so scared about playing Maria again. Despite the fact I won our last match I will never forget the thrashing she gave me in our 1st meeting. Winning the first set 6-0 was a massive boost. Maybe she wasn’t playing her best I don’t know. I think I was just more ready after my battle with Martina. This win allowed me to put a lot of stuff that’s happened in the past behind me and look forward to the real Cornet who will be a force on the tour.

I’m sorry but why on earth is Lindsay seeded she doesn’t deserve to be. This is Women’s tennis not Granny’s! She should be home caring for her fat blob son. This match was not as close as the score looked I was just put off by the creaking her ancient bones made whenever she moved – which admittedly wasn’t very often. Her tactics were atrocious too, she knew I was the better player so tried every tick in the book to put me off, but I blocked the squeaking, screaming and streaking to win this. I hope I didn’t make her late for bongo!

This was really a great match with most games going to multiple deuces. The momentum clearly swung though and I just had that bit more in the tank at the end She really does have all the shots though and will be a real threat on the tour this year. In many ways she reminds me of my old friend Caroline Wozniaki, I hope we too will be friends and she will stay from the bullies. I hope we can play again soon I don’t think this match really was as good as it could potentially have been. There will be no ball bashing here – Serena, Lindsay take notes!

This was my second slam final and I know how much it hurt when I didn’t win last time. The further you go the harder it is to loose. Unfortunately I was playing a girl who has beaten me several times before. Thus it was important that I got off to a good start and I did. But she came back really strong there was not much I could do in the second set she played some seriously amazing tennis. In the third I found a gear I have never reached before shots I could previously only dream of went in again and again and I realised fully how well I can play IN the end I think my experience made the difference and I managed to pull through. It was the best feeling ever!
