Dementieva hung tight in the first set, to edge out Safina, which was crucial in the end. Dementieva was much stronger in the decider, and she moves on to the semsi in her first event of season 2!

Nice recovery from Makiri here. DOwn a set and 3-0 in both the 2nd and 3rd sets, she battles her way into her second semi in as many events. She is looking very strong early on this season. Nice debut from Radwanska though :)

Neither player was settled until the 3rd set, which saw some stunning exchanges. Very tight decider, with 1 CT each, but Serena is just playing such great tennis nowadays, and she moves into yet another semi. Well done :) - Encouraging signs from Kuzy.

Jankovic seems to have found her form from the US hardcourt season, as she overturns an early second set lead from Hingis, to send her packing in straight sets. She moves on to the semis to face red-hot Serena.

Serena hits a smash on match point against Anna Kournikova

Even if Serena Williams went down in a final last week, she's full of confidence and keeps playing really great tennis since many weeks in a row and that's a good sign for the upcoming Grand Slam in Melbourne. Serena Williams dismissed some of the best rising stars of the OWTT this week, beating Caroline Wozniacki, Anna Kournikova and Svetlana Kuznetsova to get to the SFs.

Her toughest match definitely was against the Russian Beauty, Anna Kournikova, who brought her to a third set tie breaker in which Serena prevailed but not easily at all. Serena said after this match, "I had many up and downs today, I had difficulties finding my rythm. Anna's strategy was kinda frustrating, she was returning every ball and making nothing exceptional, she was just pushing everything back, I was the one who decided what the point would look like" Serena Williams looked really pumped up to know she could win these tight battles and stay cool in what should be nerve racking moments and wants the title more than anyone in this tournament.

Good match between these two. Dementieva dominated the opener but then it was a really tight and tense affair. Dementieva is looking strong as ever, but Makiri makes another semi and will be one to watch in Melbourne :)
