Brussels (French (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_language): Bruxelles, pronounced (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Phonetic_Alphabet) , and sometimes [bʁyksɛl] by non-Belgian speakers of French; Dutch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_language): Brussel, pronounced (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Phonetic_Alphabet) [ˈbrɵsəɫ]; German (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_language): Brüssel, pronounced (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Phonetic_Alphabet) [brʏsəl]) is the capital (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital) of Belgium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgium), of Flanders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flanders) (consisting of both the Flemish Community (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flemish_Community) and the Flemish Region (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flemish_Region)) and of the French Community of Belgium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Community_of_Belgium), and it is the headquarters of most of the European Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union)'s institutions. Brussels is the capital city, in the centre of Belgium, and also the largest municipality of the Brussels-Capital Region (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brussels-Capital_Region). This municipality inside Brussels is correctly named The City of Brussels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_City_of_Brussels) (French: Bruxelles-Ville or Ville de Bruxelles, Dutch: Stad Brussel), which is one of 19 municipalities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Municipality) that make up the Brussels-Capital Region (see also: Municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Municipalities_of_the_Brussels-Capital_Region)), with a total population of 1,024,492 inhabitants (1 January (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_1)2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006)). The municipality has a population of about 140,000. The Metropolitan area has about 2,090,000 inhabitants. [1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brussels#_note-0)
Brussels is also the political seat of NATO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO), the Western European Union (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_European_Union) (WEU) and EUROCONTROL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EUROCONTROL), the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (see: Political centre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brussels#Political_centre), below).
The name Brussels comes from the old Dutch Bruocsella, Brucsella or Broekzele, which means "marsh (bruoc, bruc or broek) home (sella or zele)" or "home consisting of one room, in the marsh". "Broekzele" was spelt "Bruxelles" in French. In Belgian French (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgian_French)pronunciation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pronunciation) as well as in Dutch, the "k" eventually disappeared and "z" became "s", as reflected in the current Dutch spelling (French: /bʀy.ˈsel/; Dutch: /ˈbry.s(ɘ)l/ or /ˈbrɘ.s(ɘ)l/). The names of all other municipalities in the Brussels-Capital Region are also of Dutch origin, except for Evere (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evere), which is of Celtic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_languages) origin.

I know I said I'd make the reports later but there's one I cannot wait to tell you..

You've seen Scheyrlinck has won by default... Seeing Aglae wasn't coming the organisors called her... She was still in bed  so they asked her why she wasn't here, she said "I thought I didn't get into the qualies", they answered to her "we've given you a wildcard" and she said "Oh you know, i just didn't check the computer the last few days" :haha: :haha:

The girl seem to be sooo professional :haha: Anyway I guess this was the first and last time the tournament has given her a WC

Let's report :bounce:

Kanakova def. J.Mergaert 6/1 6/0

Not a great match as you can imagine... Jenka doesn't have a bad game, but it's just simply not good enough, she's the kind of girl who likes to play in rythm, but she can't keep it up... Kanakova just had to send the ball back and wait for Jenka's fault who would always come way too early... Will have to see Kanakova against someone else to really judge her game...

Alexandra Kudryavtseva def. Hermans 6/4 6/1

I almost didn't see anything of this match.. So pretty hard to report it

Wagner def. Verbeken 7/5 6/0

My first impression on marine was "Oh my god, what a talented girl" Well she IS talented, but the girl is mentally the weakest player I've ever seen... She's not patient enough and goes for the winner on everypoint, when she scores, it's usually with a great shot.. But then there are all the times when she doesn't score... Wagner has a good game and seemed more clever than Marine... After losing the first set, marine totally disconnected from the match...

Van Dyck def. Huebsch 6/1 6/0

And I thought Van Dyck was another hopeless belgian player  Well she isn't! She's got a great serve, with great groundstrokes both on the forehand and backhand side and is pretty good at the net  She was strong mentally... Well she really did a great match. Huebsch is not bad at all and the scoreline don't do her justice as she definitely would have beaten some of the girls who won today, but Nicky was just on fire :hearts: At the end of match she did like she was to send a ball in the air like they do in big stadium and then laughed

Menacer def. Engel 6/1 6/1

Menacer didn't impress me that much... And still managed to complain a lot though she's led the whole match  Engel should try another sport, she's really not good at tennis

Ghesquiere def. Na 6/1 6/4

I had written 6/4 6/1, it was actually 6/1 6/4... Na's game isn't really effective... At first I wondered why she used her one-handed backhand so much, as it obviously wasn't doing any good... And the I saw her forehand and understood... Nevertheless she managed to bring back lots of ball and led at the begin of the second, but Ghesquiere stayed focused and won it in straight sets.

Gambarini def. Tregub 6/2 6/2

Tregub will remain a mystery for me... She has everything to be a very powerful player, she's tall, when she's going to hit to ball you think it's gonna go fast fast fast... And then I don't know what she does, but it's just horrible  Plus the girl has no mental strenght and can't stay focused long... She held until 2-2 in both sets and then just vanished both times... Gambarini's a typical italian player with an awful grunt, but she's very efficien on clay...
One last thing about Tregub, she's russian, but she speaks dutch

Auensen def. Scholl 6/7 6/3 6/3

Probably the match of the day. Both players were among the best of the day... Scholl is a little less consistant and focused than auensen though and that cost her the match... but it was a very entertaining match with lots of drama (both girls led in all of the three sets lol)

Scheyrlinck def. Van den Berghe w/o No show

I've already explained that bit a few posts before... But just once again :help: @ Aglae

Jullien def. Gallego-Javer 6/1 6/3

Didn't see a lot of this match either, but Jullien seemed just much better than her opponent...

Zaniewska def. Gentile 6/3 6/1

Ornella, why do you keep playing tennis ? I've seen her play for a few years now and still don't get it... The girl has a really great forehand. But that's basically it. She just hits her forehand hoping to make the point, if she has to do anything else she just can't (or don't want to, I always wonder...). I think with a bit of work, Ornella could have become a tennisplayer while she's just become a girl who plays tennis... Zaniewska on the other hand was pretty solid... But she just hits her racket wayyyyy to much :o

Lim def. Argues-Garcia 6/1 6/0

Just saw a few points of the game and was totally sure Lim was losing it... It seems she wasn't

Skvortsova def. K.Jacob 6/2 6/3

A 10k in brussels without Katharina in qualies wouldn't be a real 10k in brussels... She seemed less inspired than last times I had seen her and Skvortsova was just too good for her...

And Claus was up 6/2 against Chantraine

It seems when I got back they had finished the match with Claus winning (I overheard Chantraine saying she had lost), but I couldn't find the score.. Anyway, both girls offered us some great baseline rallies and seem to be talented.. But Claus was more consistant and focus, so it's quite normal she won that match... But Chantraine, who's only 15, may have some potential...

2nd part of the reports to follow

^bibi^
Jul 5th, 2008, 08:10 PM
Reports 2nd Part

Meglinskaya def. Renard 6/4 2/6 7/5

Not the greatest of match... both players were really negative with Renard complaining all the time and Meglinskaya crying everytime she lost a match... Renard was 2-0 in the third, then Meglinskaya serve for the match at 5-4 and strte with 2 DF... Renard broke but got broken again in the next game and the finally lost the match... I'll have to check who she wil play next round but I doubt she'll win another match...

Bernard def. Romanova 6/3 4/6 6/1

Romanova was better, but what a temper, she even got a warning in the last set... She's got a pretty good game but reall needs to be more focused on her game... In the last set she was watching the matc on the court next to her between two points :help:

Hancarova def. Nolin 6/2 6/0

Didn't see a single point of this match...

Heise def. Goedkoop 6/2 6/2

Didn't see a lot of this one either but just that Heise was way better than the dutch...

Nowe def. Marechal 6/0 6/0

 Another of the match I haven't seen.. But during the rain delay I overheard Marechal saying she was eeling the ball well but was annoyed by Nowe's dropshots... it seems she's made even more dropshots after the rain delay

Ficheux def. Boeykens 7/5 6/3

I still can't believe Ficheux is only 14! She's still a bit weak mentally when she leads, but is awesome when she's trailed!!! she came back from 5-3 in the first set and the kept on by breaking in the second and the held until the lmast game when she broke Boeykens again. She's already quite powerful for her age and probably has a good shot at becoming a good tennisplayer... Boeykens was quite good too except for the last game of the match, but she needs to eat a little :o

Apaoloza-Miradevilla def. Suys 6/1 6/0

Haven't seen this one either

Punzo def. Hall 6/1 6/2

Why is Punzo unranked ? The girl's quite talented...

Antonic def. Dujardin 6/4 3/6 6/2

This was the last match to end like 30 minutes ago and it was quite boring... Antonic sliced almost all her shots an doesn't have a real weapon in her game, she basically waits for her opponent to make the fault... But she's quite efficient on clay... Also she says Ajde instead of C'mon lol

Makovey def. Godeyne 6/? 6/2

Mokaovey is not really impressive but served pretty well and won her serve game easily, which helped her win the game... The poor level of Godeyne also helped :o

Van Bennekom def. L.K.Jacob 4/6 6/0 7/6

Another great match :hearts: Jacobs started really well serving for the first set with two breaks up, that's when Van bennekom decided to come back, she won two games in a row but serving for the second time for the set Jacobs took it 6/4... Then in the third Van Bennekom was just too good. She kept on elading until 4/2 in the third but then started to think about victory... Jacobs came back but Van Bennekom recovered in the tie-break and won it easlity (7/2 I think) But really both players were good claycourters and offered a very entertaining match...

Bertens def. Pilnik 6/2 6/1

Pilnik would be #1 if you only had to shoot the ball two times per point... So bad she always misses that 3rd shot  Bith players hit pretty hard, but Bertens understood quickly she just had to wait two shots to win the point.

I'll try to do some more reports tomorrow, but won't be able to attend the whole day...

If you want pictures they should be on the webstie of the tournaments tomorrow I think...

OMG :haha:
Thanks for all the reports :hatoff:
