Because I had such a late night last night, I slept in quite a bit... and missed the cooking lessons I was supposed to do this morning! I was pretty disappointed but I must have been really exhausted from the day before. It's unfortunate as I was looking forward to it. But I had a busy afternoon anyway, doing an interview with ESPN, practicing for two hours, going to the gym for about 40 minutes, then a massage. Because I play singles and doubles tomorrow I didn't do too much.

I've got to talk about how friendly the people are here. From the housekeeper to the restaurant staff they are all so nice and polite no matter if you're winning or losing. They just wish you a nice game and not good luck.

Good news for Camille

The French Pin estara making a pair with the Argentina Ma Emilia Salerni in the tilt of doubles in Berlin.
The news is very good for Camille since about time that pretendia to play with Salerni.

Hello everyone!

Other than that it was a pretty normal day. I spent the time before my practicing at the club, then after my practise a massage, shower, then watched their match, then came back here. We actually went out to eat tonight, to a buffet restaurant. It was really good, they had all kinds of meat, everything. Actually in the end, I got dessert, this marshmallow on a stick that you dip in chocolate. It was sooo good.

It has been another long day of practicing today. I've been working on my clay court game again - lots of high balls and movement drills - and most of all I'm trying to work on my patience. That was one of the things that hurt me in my loss yesterday. On hard it's fine because I'm an aggressive player and I can hit more winners, but on clay those shots can come back. I've got to improve that for my future tournaments on clay.

I practiced about three hours and 20 minutes in the morning, then had some lunch, then had another two and a half hours of practice in the afternoon. As you can probably guess, I'm a little tired now! I'm just watching some music videos on TV - Nelly Furtado is showing her 10 favorite videos, and I do agree with her on a lot of them. I actually like her a lot, not just because of her music and her voice.

Today's match with Salerni i defeated 6-4 6-3 and was pretty good for me - again, I didn't think I was playing amazingly but I was solid enough to win. And the first game... what an unbelievable game! It was 20 minutes. I've never played a game like that. When I lost that game and the third game, which was pretty long also, we were at 32 minutes already and we had only played three games. I thought if the match was going to be like that the whole time, I wouldn't survive! She played very well - she has a good serve and hits it really hard. I was just solid enough today.

Today at the Qatar Telecom German Open Serena Williams dismissed Victoria Azarenka 6-3, 6-4 and moves into the second round of this prestigous clay event. The young American is playing with much confidence coming off of a 5-0 fed cup semi-final victory over Eastern Europe.

"I'll feed good here in Germany and the weather is perfect. The clay is play really slow, but again I'm being patient and striking the ball well, so I'll just have to keep that up if I want to win this event."

Unfortunately, I lost my second round against Jelena Jankovic today. She is playing really well; I couldn't find a way to turn the match around. The score looked easy but the games were all really tough, like lots of deuces and ad her ad me, but I just wasn't able to take advantage of those chances. But anyway I give a lot of credit to her - she played very well, and definitely deserved the win. Of course I'm a little tired but I feel good and I have no injuries and I still feel pretty confident despite my loss today.

Hello again ,

Today, Pitu and I played a good match and beat Jovanovski and Kucova, for 63 76. They were very tough on clay; Kucova has been a Top 40 player in the past and is very experienced as well, so we knew we'd have a tough match. But it was also very windy and the Sun was getting in our eyes, so it's a great one to get through in light of the conditions. The super tie-break wasn't as nerve-racking as the one from our first match, because we were up most of the time in this one. Ma Emilia came up with this unbelievable return-and-volley early on, a backhand angle volley, which I've got to mention.
I've already mentioned this week I take doubles very seriously, but I must say personally, I am not the biggest fan of the super tie-break system. I don't mind the no-ad rule we're using - it makes the sets a bit shorter and less predictable. But the super tie-break I don't like too much. I just don't think there is any reason to have it.
Before that I had another pretty relaxed day. A late breakfast at about 9/930am then went to do some work in the gym, and to the courts at about 1030am. We hit at around 11am for 45 minutes or so then grabbed something quick to eat. Before the match we re-taped my knee... it was actually hurting a little bit today, which is something you have to expect when you're sliding a lot on the clay

Jelena, who won Fes last week and continues her winning-streak to a total of 9 matches here, seems playing good on clay, she nearly beats many top players, she has already beaten the world number 2 to 6 so far, all on clay!! That's really impressive. Realatively to Justine' draw, Jelena's draw is much tougher, she just only faces two unseeded players in this tournament(Including Justine), and she beats Alona Bondarenko(Miami winner) easily and beats two in-form players Maria Kirilenko and Daniela Hantuchova, so "Giant Killer" is her new nickname now!!

And who will win, Justine "Clay-court-master" Henin or Jelena "Giant-killer" Jankovic?? If you want to know who will be crowned in beautiful Berlin, catch up the final(Live-scoring) at 3:00 pm(Perth time).

Ranings projection

This is probarly the most important thing that Justine and Jelena wants to know!!;)

If Justine won the tournament, Justine will be ranked #7, and Jelena will be ranked #12!!
If Jelena won the tournament, Jelena will be ranked #10, and Justine will still be ranked #7!!

So anyway, Justine will enter top 8 and Jelena will enter top 15.
But much more important for Jelena as she has a chance to become a top 10 player in two weeks from a player who ranked 28 before!!
Such a big imporve on rankings for both girls!!

Agnes: Well Its down to two Justine Henin and Jelena Jankovic
Daniela: Justine has been impressive alll week taking out numerous people in two sets. Her clay court play is penomenal and she is extremly DANGEROUS Oout here. Jelena Jankovic has also been playing the thennis of her life in the past two weeks. She has reached two consecutive finals on the clay.
Agnes: My pick is the ever tough JJ. She's beaten out almost everyone threr is to beat and now only JuJU is left.
Daniela:I have to agree. Ive played against her and I kno0w what she has in her her backhand down the line has been scoring point after point after point. I'm still not countting out Justine.

Unfortunately, Ma Emilia Salerni and I lost our second round doubles match today. We lost with (1)Margalita Chakhnashvili / Victoria Azarenka for 7-5 6-4. We had fun playing it but we were a bit angry afterwards, because we really had our chances. We won the first set 5-3 but after we lost and in the second set we had a point to go up 4-2 but lost it 6-5; we were a bit unlucky on that one. But it happens. We still had a good time.

Tomorrow afternoon I'm leaving for Rome. My flight is at 2pm. Its direct;. I hope I can sleep on the plane this time... I am usually able to get to sleep but the flight to Berlin earlier this week, like I said... it was just impossible!

I had fun writing this week's blog and I hope you all had fun reading it. Hopefully I'll do it again soon!
