Hi everyone,

I'm excited to be writing my first blog from the wonderful city of Dubai, where I'm playing in the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships. I came here from Bali Sunday night - no, Saturday night - sorry, I had to think about that for a moment! On the Tour we travel quite a bit, moving from tournament to tournament almost every week, so sometimes I lose track of the days.

Right now it's pretty warm and dry here in Dubai, which is not so surprising, we are in the desert after all. Last week in Bali it was warm already, but wet as well. I think I prefer when it's warm and dry. This tournament is special to me because we're playing on rebound ace, and I really like this surface. I don't know who I'm playing first, but I really look forward to playing my first match and hope that I can go far this week again.

Unfortunately, I haven't been out much yet since I arrived here, not even to go shopping, which is very unusual for me and my coach. But since the final last Saturday in Bali, I haven't had time to go out. It's too bad really, because there are a lot to see in this city. Some say it's the desert paradise. I read it on a brochure in the plane. I also read that there are remnants of an ancient mangrove swamp, dated at 7,000 years, discovered during the construction of new sewer lines... To be honest I don't really care about remnants and old things like that, but my coach really likes that, history, archeology, etc, so each time I see something about that, I tell him. He was very happy. Yeah, he's strange sometimes...

Even though we haven't been able to go out too much, I've been busy. Last night, we had the official welcome party for the tournament. It's a tradition and I think it's one of the best things about the tournament. All of the players are there and everyone always dresses up, which is a nice change from the tennis clothes. It starts out with a press conference with all the players. The tournament is so respectful to the players and makes sure that all of the players are included. Everyone feels appreciated. At the party, they introduce all of us onto a stage and present flowers to us. It really is quite an event, and it's so nice to be able to hang out with my friends on the Tour outside of tennis. The dinner is fantastic. I think I ate too much because for the first time in my life, I didn't feel like having breakfast this morning!

Today I had practice on the helipad at the Burj Al Arab hotel, at more than 200 meters above the ground! I had a few shots with Daniela, who will be doubles partner this week because Anna is not playing here. And we even fired a few balls off the edge of the court, specially laid for us! They converted the grass helipad at the top of the hotel, to help promote this week's Open. This was an absolutely amazing experience!!! When you first get over how high you are and start playing it's an absolute joy and it was a great time. I had no issues with the height as long as I didn't have to bungee jump off the side. It was grass, but nevermind, it was fantastic!!! The view was absolutely amazing here! This was an absolute treat. To play tennis with Dani on top of such an amazing hotel and overlooking the whole of Dubai was absolutely spectacular!

I think I won't have time to tell you about that luxury hotel where we're staying all the week, the Burj Al Arab hotel, but I'll come back tomorrow with more details. Because it really is luxurious inside and outside! The WSC Tour really entertain us magnificently! Oh my God, you should see that! But I promise, I'll come back tomorrow. Now I have to meet my sponsor, to discuss about new collections, which I'm excited about. I can't say much because it's going to be a surprise, but what I can tell you is that I'll have a very nice dress at the next Grand Slam.

After that, I'll have to go to bed, because I probably will have my first match tomorrow. The draw is not out yet, so I don't know. Maybe I will receive a bye. Sometimes it's cool to be the top seed, trust me! I'll talk about the draw in my next blog tomorrow. After all, I'm here to play tennis. And win, I hope ;)

Dubai has had a long sreak of beautiful weather leading up intothe day before the tournament. And the weath greatly delayed play...but was itthe real reason....no. Jil Craybas and her Posse Graffitied the courts ruining the chances to play. Daniela Hatuchova wa there to report.

Newcomer Olga Govortsova advances in the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships as she defeated American Meilen Tu in straight sets 6-4 6-4.

"Today, i am serving well and my backhands are simlpy perfect. During the rain delay in Dubai, i and my coach discuss about the game plan every single moments, and i think his advices are working very good. Also i think the crowd in Dubai are perfect and all the things in Dubai are soo exotic, i hope i can have a chance to live in Dubai in the future!! And i am looking forward to my next match!!"

In the second round, Olga will face number three seed and her good friend Daniela Hantuchova, "WOW!! Facing Daniela, it's a really good chance for me to learn from top players, Daniela is a nice girl, she is also mu good friend. Hi everyone,

I know I haven't written since last Monday. In fact I got a cold after my match against Elena Vesnina, and I had to stay in bed. I know, it's strange, coming to Dubai to get a cold! One would have told me, I wouldn't have believed it! Well, at least I missed nothing here in Dubai, since it has been raining a lot this week, so that the play was suspended. Thank God, I could recover at the same time. I hope I'll be ready for my next match against Marta. I'll come back later, I promise.

Hi everyone,

I'm very sorry not to write a few lines for several days, but I've been very very busy lately. I think I'll go on in French, cause I've lost my English :p


Alors voilà, après avoir attrapé ce coup de froid l'autre jour, j'ai pu enfin me rétablir juste à temps pour le début du tournoi. Je dois remercier la pluie pour ça, grâce au mauvais temps les matches ont été retardés et j'ai pu récuperer dans les temps. Et le bye du premier tour m'a aidé également. Comme je le disais l'autre jour, ça a parfois des avantages d'être tête de série!! Bref, j'ai joué, et même si je n'étais pas à 100% dans mes premiers matches, j'ai réussi à atteindre la finale et à remporter le titre! J'étais même remise suffisamment pour m'aligner en double avec Daniela et nous avons remporté le titre également. C'est la deuxième fois que je fais le doublé simple-double, après Hobart un peu plus tôt dans la saison. Enfin, cette semaine, c'était un peu plus facile en double vu que le tableau était très réduit. D'ailleurs d'autres joueuses du tournoi sur terre qui se joue en même temps ont protesté contre l'organisation d'un tournoi de double avec juste deux équipes. Pourtant, l'autre équipe n'était pas n'importe qui, Samantha et Olga sont des joueuses très douées. Et puis les autres joueuses n'avaient qu'à participer, cela aurait rendu la compétition plus longue. En tout cas, je suis contente d'avoir pu jouer avec Daniela, c'était une expérience très enrichissante, j'espère qu'on aura l'occasion de rejouer ensemble à l'avenir, si Anna ne participe pas au même tournoi que moi. Car Anna reste tout de même ma partenaire de double.


Bon, assez parlé du double, revenons au simple. D'abord j'ai du affroner Elena, une joueuse russe, jeune et talentueuse, que j'avais déjà affrontée à Gold Coast, et battu en 3 sets difficiles. Mais cette fois-ci, j'ai pu trouver les coups qui l'ont empêché de jouer son jeu tout en puissance, et j'ai pu gagner plus rapidement, en 2 sets, 63 75. Ensuite, Marta, une joueuse que je n'avais jamais rencontrée encore. Elle est tenace, et m'a posé quelques difficultés en demi-finales. J'ai réussi à arracher la victoire en 3 sets, avec un jeu décisif. Le score était de 62 36 76(8). Je pense qu'on sera amenées à se rencontrer encore, et sur une autre surface, cela risque d'être plus difficile pour moi. Enfin en finale, contre Sam, ça a été presque plus facile, tellement on a l'habitude de se jouer maintenant. Et toujours en finale! On finit par connaître le jeu de l'autre par coeur. Je crois que je résiste mieux qu'elle à la pression de la finale, c'est sans doute pour ça que j'arrive plus facilement à installer mon jeu qu'elle. J'arrive à attaquer plus facilement, alors que je la sens plus fébrile en face. A chaque fois, à Gold Coast, à Hobart et ici à Dubai, j'ai gagné en deux sets. Cette fois-ci n'a pas été différente, j'ai gagné 61 62. Je pense que sur une autre surface et à un autre stade de la compétition, il faudra que je me méfie car elle aura ses chances. En attendant, aujourd'hui la hierarchie est respectée. Et j'aime bien l'ordre moi! :devil:


Enfin, je vais arrêter mon roman en vous parlant un peu de mon séjour à Dubai. Dubai, quand il ne pleut pas, c'est à dire 99% du temps, est une ville superbe. La première chose qui frappe en sortant de l’aéroport est cette chaleur étouffante et ce taux d’humidité comparable à ceux des pays de l’Afrique de l’ouest. Le soir, la nuit même, vous pouvez vous balader en manches courtes, pas de soucis, vous n’aurez pas froid. Si vous êtes très frileux, la petite laine peut s’imposer si vous allez visiter les centres commerciaux, les malls comme ils disent là bas. L’autre chose frappante est le parking de l’aéroport… 4*4, Mercedes, Bmw, Porsche etc… le ton est donné.

Une fois rentrés dans la ville, on se demande où on a atterri. La ville n’est que buildings plus hauts les uns que les autres, bâtiments en verre teinté ultra modernes et grues à tous les coins de rues. A ce sujet, une anecdote datant d’il y a 2 ans, mais pas forcement loin de la réalité d’aujourd’hui : 10% des grues en activité dans le monde sont à Dubai!! Il y en a partout!! C'est une ville en plein boom, ça construit de partout. Bon j'ai pas visité toute la ville, mais le peu que j'ai vu, c'était impressionant! Là-bas, l'anglais est utilisé par quasiment tout le monde, on se croirait presqu'à New York, si ce n'était la température et l'humidité écrasante.

Une particularité de la ville, en plus d'être située au milieu du désert comme Las Vegas: c'est le paradis des adeptes du shopping!! On y trouve de tout, et toutes les marques! Les centres commerciaux, les malls comme ils disent là-bas, sont ultra modernes et gigantesques!!! Quoique vous recherchiez, de la mode française à l'électronique japonaise, en passant par les accessoires ou les chaussures italiennes, vous ne rentrerez jamais les mains vides! J'en ai profité pour acheter une paire de lunette et deux paires de chaussures, mais je me suis limitée car j'étais limitée par la taille de ma valise. Par contre, côté duty free, on en entend tellement parler qu’on s’en fait une montagne et au final on est déçus… Bon, c’est immense, et on trouve de tout, c'est vrai. Rayon geekeries, y a un magasin assez grand qui va du GSM dernier cri ou extravagant (j’en ai vu certains à pres de 20000 euros) jusqu’au mixeur à jus de fruits en passant par les consoles et jeux pour Wii ou PS3…. mais bon, au final j’ai trouvé qu’on en avait vite fait le tour… Ah oui, la cartouche de cigarettes est à enrion 7€, mais pour la légende où Dubai est hyper interessant pour tout ce qui est high tech, et bien il faudra repasser. C’est peut-être un poil moins cher qu'en Europe, mais pas de quoi justifier un voyage rien que pour ça. Et puis, le choix y est tellement vaste qu’on a intérêt à savoir ce que l’on cherche.

Au niveau de la vie là-bas, j’avais lu un peu tout et son contraire. Que les filles devaient avoir une certaine tenue, qu’il convenait de s’habiller comme-ci ou comme-ça. Au final, il n'en est rien. Certaines portent des décolletés vertigineux ou des mini-jupes qui sont plus mini que jupe. Une tenue correcte est de rigueur pour visiter une mosquée et est conseillée pour arpenter les rues de la vieille ville. La population que vous pouvez croiser le soir rapelle étrangement celle de Marrakech où c’est assez m’as tu vu et show off. La seule différence est que autant Marrakech est archi desservie par des To et autres voyagistes, autant je n’ai vu aucune trace d’un club de vacances ou autre bus touristique à Dubai.

Pour finir, un mot, car je l'avais promis, sur l'hôtel où nous sommes restés ces quelques jours, le Burj Al Arab, l'emblême de la ville. Cet hôtel en forme de voile est l’hotel le plus cher du monde, mais aussi le meilleur parait-il. Et pour l'instant, sur ceux que j'ai testé, je confirme! Il a bénéficié d’une dérogation pour obtenir le classement de 7 étoiles, là où dans le plupart des pays celui-ci s’arrête à 5 (4 étoiles luxe en France). Tentés par une visite du hall de l’hôtel pour faire ‘waoow’? Oubliez! Impossible de s’en approcher, même pour prendre un café il faut réserver plusieures semaines à l’avance, et c'est minimum $75 rien que pour entrer dans l'hôtel! Les gens qui tentent de s'approcher sans réservation sont reconduits à la sortie avec un bout de papier en guise de réponse sur lequel figure un numéro de téléphone pour réserver. Et dire que nous, nous avons pu en profiter! Le décor est somptueux, tout est spacieux, recherché au millimètre près, le service est aux petits soins, bref, un séjour inoubliable! J'ai ramené quelques photos pour illustrer tout ça.

Je suis capable d'en écrire encore des pages et des pages, mais je dois m'arrêter là, car demain il faut se lever tôt pour récupérer l'avion pour Roland Garros. Ca c'est encore une autre histoire! En tout cas, j'ai apprécié cette expérience de blogs, même si je n'ai pas été très assidue, et ce pour différentes raisons. I really don't think the doubles are very fair now. They just need to win a match and then got points which are just as same as the other event who has to play at least 2 matches.The other event is a tier I, this one is a tier II, so it can't be the same points :shrug:

Well, I think 90% of the real teams would win the matches against PC players.:shrug: Because in doubles all the teams have 200 points, unless the points are really bad, I don't think we'll lose to them.:angel:

What I did was comparing between the same tier level of the events.;)

In the other tier II events before this, those who played in it(doubles) have to play against PC players at least(which you'll win eventually) and then the final match. At least this sounds fair to those who played doubles in a similar tier events.;)
