Venus Williams was overwhelmed to hear that the tour director would give her a wild card into the Olympic games. She has vowed to make the most of it and to represent the US well in China.

"I'm so excited to be back on tour. Coming back during the Olypmic Games is just the an huge honor and I won't let my country down. I've been working with my coach on my serve. I feel it's the one thing that has been letting my down in matches and I have to do better in that area."

Russian Maria Kirilenko crushes Dulko in Beijing Olympic Games

After winning her qualifying match against Japanese Ai Sugiyama earlier this morning, young Russian Maria Kirilenko won over the World Number three Argentine Gisela Dulko in two easy sets, 6-3 6-0.

This was their second meeting since Sydeny, and Gisela actually led in their head-to-head before this important Olympic match. But after winning her qualifying match, Maria got some confidence and walked on court with no pressure against the strong Argentine. And this match has been dramatic although the scoreline is just too easy. In the first set, Gisela quickly took a 3-0 lead, but with windy condition and Chinese's cheering, Maria suddenely woke up and won the next 12 straight games!! In these 12 games, nearly all games came to deuce, and Maria faced nearly 15 break points, but Gisela couldn't convert all of them!!

After this match, Maria spoke about her feeling happilly!! "WOW!! It's amazing to have a chance to play for my country, and this feeling is memorable, even better than winning matches in Grand Slams. I think the weather isn't that good today, with strong wind and i think this is the reason why Gisela couldn't show her best tennis!! But i think this win gives me a lot of confidence, i hope i can keep this in the next match!!"

Today was a sad day for Russians, only two Russian including Makiri and Maria Sharapova had through to the second round, and these two remaining Russians need to face against each other in the next match!! So that means at least Russian can through to the quarters, and we hope that can be Makiri!! Actually Makiri leads the head-to-head with a 2-0 lead against her good friend! It looks like Makiri has the advantage, but Maria can be very dangerous so time, so we wish her best of luck!!

Eigth-seeded Israeli, Shahar Peer reacts after defeating Iveta Benesova in their round one match at the Beijing Olympics.

Israel's Shahar Peer says she loves to eat bagels for breakfast, she also loves serving them. Earlier today in first round action of the Beijing Olympics, the eigth-seeded Israeli gave Iveta Benesova a couple of bagels for breakfast, winning 6-0, 6-0.

"It feels great for me, probably not so great for Iveta. She's a great girl and I think she has a lot of talent. I was just the better player today. There's so much up on the line in every tournament now. The rankings can change drastically from one tournament's results, so I have to start getting better results if I want to stay where I am in the ranks." Peer said at a post match press conference.

It's the first time in her career that she's not lost a game in a match although she's come close plenty of times. Benesova, who recieved a "lucky loser" card into the main draw never really got started in her match against Peer and just let the sharp shooting Israeli take command of the match.

"I didn't really think about getting the double bagel until I was up 4-0 in the second set. It kind of came into my thoughts, but then I dismissed it. I didn't want to start thinking ahead then blow the whole match."

In her second round match, Peer will take on American, Venus Williams whose making a huge return to the tour this week. Venus defeated fellow American, Lindsay Davenport for a spot in the round of 16.

"Venus is a tough player and I'm just going to have to play how I did against Iveta. Strong and consistant. I don't have to yell and scream that I'm the best. If I'm confidant in myself, everyone will notice."

Venus Williams has moved into the round of 16 at the Beijing Olympic Games, taking out fellow American Lindsay Davenport 7-5, 6-0. Venus looked good on the court against her country women Davenport, but can she continue her play deep into this Olympic Event? She believes so.

"I'm feeling good and enjoying my time here in Beijing, that's what's important to me. As far as my game goes, I'm just happy to get a win here at these Olympic Games. It's an honor for me to represent my country and I just hope I continue to play well.

I have a tough round of 16 match coming up against Shahar Peer. I actually got to see some of her match today and she looked great. She was moving well on the court and so am I, so I really think that is what is going to make the difference in our match-up. I want to win for the US and she for Israel, so may best athlete win."

Serena Williams had no struggle in her two first rounds of the Olympics. She played in first round against the German Martina Muller and against the Swiss Lady Martina Hingis in second round.

Ree was confident in that first round match, the moonballs of Muller didn't affect her as she simply destroyed them one after another. Serena played a really clean match and it just was a great entrance for her. She won 6-2 6-2.

Second round opponent was similar, Martina Hingis plays a finess game but Serena just knows how to beat that kind of opponent, she let only 4 games to her opponent again and easily rolled in quarters. Final score was 6-0 6-4.

After the match Serena said "Well it's a good beginning for me but I'm really sad that I'll play Tatiana next round... Last time we played she beat me but she's an awesome player, I'll give my best against her."

Serena also said about her sister's comeback "Well it's glad to see Vee back on track. She has worked hard to get back to that level, it's sad that she had to beat Shahar, but I mean, my sister is a really talented player too."

Serena Williams also played with Lindsay Davenport in doubles but they went down first round, she said about it "It's a bit dissapointing for both of us but I mean we played our heart out, it just wasn't enough at the end."

Well done Domi for beating Moore :worship: (clearly Lindsay's not the only one who needs to lose weight :p)

Serena Williams kept going on her impressive run, she has not lost a set yet in the tournament. Untill here she dismissed Martina Muller, Martina Hingis, Tatiana Golovin and Dominika Cibulkova all in straight sets with Tatiana Golovin being the most impressive as she was the only one to win 5 games.

Serena Williams was on cloud nine after her win over Dominika Cibulkova, whom she had lost twice to in the past. Serena sad after her win "I felt so so well on court today! She was hitting as well as usual but I just took my game to another level today, nobody could have competed with me today, I played my best ever."

When Serena was asked what was her toughest match till here at the Olympics, she answered "Against Tati it was just really hard to play, we are good friends and we don't want to hurt each other. Plus I won the 10th game of the first set with a lucky netcord, it felt weird. Then I just rolled over Tati, but it was just tough to do..."

When she was asked if she believed in her chances against Nicole Vaidisova, Serena said "She beat me three times, she always won the first set against me, I have to turn things around, she knows how to play me, if I want to win I have to go for it and not be scared, I played really great tennis till here, I don't know why I shouldn't believe in my chances."

Serena Williams is the last hope of medal for the United States of America in the Tennis Competition as she is the only women remaining in both singles and doubles, her sister Venus was eliminated earlier in quarterfinals.
