View Full Version : TT Olympics -- Ideas/Suggestions Thread

In The Zone
Jun 13th, 2008, 11:06 PM
With the Olympics around the corner, we were discussing how to run it.

Cincinnati is the same week so it can be selective and not all inclusive.

I feel we should run it similar to the real WTA Tour. People can change their nationalities, like in Fed Cup, to find a partner or enter the tournament. Must play with someone from your nation for doubles, etc etc.

I am unsure about the fact that 4 member max from each nation. It would obvious hurt nations like USA and China where as Venzuela (:o) and Slovenia (:ras:) would go unaffected. Of course, if you don't make it in, you can play Cincinnati, but I just want to know how everyone feels about this.

Any ideas, suggestions?

I like your idea.

TT is meant to reflect how the actual tour is played, and I think it would just be silly to play the Olympics in a way which is different to the way the tour deals with it.

For the record, MH3.14 has taken so many lines and things from ITZ. It's called give and take. Not just take, take, take. Thief.

And not because it would be better for me, but if people change their nationalities they may make people from the real country not qualifiying for their countries because of the other people change of nationalities, i dont know if you get me here!!

Obviously people from their real nations get first preference ... I am talking about the Chinese and Americans who won't be able to get in.

Yes. It would just be for this tournament for the sake of entering, like we did for Fed Cup.

But it's more like the real tour then if no everyone makes it :wavey: I would run it identically as real Olympics and nations change will make it that some will play for St. Kitts & Nevis only to get in, while there's Cincinatti and everyone else can play there and get rankong points (not as they will be worse) :wavey:

Also qualification should be same for singles (64) and doubles (32) as in WTA... It will be nice to see some permenent partners playing seperate at least for one tournament ;)

I would also make a strict deadline, from which the ranks will be taken into account, e.g. after Wimby or other, but it should be early enough to get all those qualification rules solved :)

We don't even know if someone who is not form Georgia will be able to play for it  Hope we won't make it one big mess by tons of players changing the country, but it's only my way of thinking that it would be senseless :p

Ok one thing guys, for doubles:

the top 32 should enter and do couples from the same countries, and those players left, like me for example can partner someone else who dosnt have a partner from the same country and the would represent the country of the highest ranked player of the team, this because then people like Milan Chris or Myself (top3) wouldnt have someone to play olympics with!!, and why make the top players not able of participating?

I think it should be like in real;)
In singels: Only TOP 4 of each country
In doubles the best 2:confused: teams of each country
And like there are many tournaments before the Olymic Games,it would be very funny to see who will make the race for his country;)
And in doubles that would mean that some teams will play then together more tournaments and stay together for longer time then 1 or 2 tournaments:o
In the case of the USA or China: There could be a national community which elect their starters for Olympia like in real;)

I think that's fair.

I think we can do it just like the real tour, and use Fed Cup representation ( for Chris/SloKid who did Slovenia, Jeronimo played for Russia or France this year, etc. etc. ).

If you are unable to get in, Cincinnati it is. Of course, you can also opt to play Cincinnati.

idea: i think a clear rule about olympics should go this way

every person playing Fed Cup (who had played a tie in this year.. or was eligible for one ) cannot change the nation they re representing..

i mean..if you played FedCup for..let's say USA.. you cannot change flags and play for another country.. which will make sense..

I mean im totally in for singles

but for doubles for example wich im also in by ranking but i dont have a partner so i can play with some french or russia to represent venezuela? (because im the highest ranked)?

if it will go like the real olympics im afraid you wont play doubles unless you find another person from venezuela..

otherwise the magic of the olympics will be lost..

i mean.. if i could i d choose to play with my regular doubles partner.. i know it sucks for you you re the only venezuelan .. but i guess if you can draw someone to play for venezuela.. he/she can play with you knowing they cannot play for any other country during 2008.. (and also as long as he/she hasnt played for any other country in fed cup or any other "nation" thing for TT this year)

If we do this the top 3 in doubles would be out

in 2004 sharapova was left out of the olympics.. :p fair? of course not  but that's how it is

It will be hard for me and Schwabenpfeil to represent Germany but nothing is inpossible :p

I think the maximum 4 players per country is fine...especially since we're supposed to mimic the real tour. Obviously some countries with plenty of players won't be able to have all of those players participating, but in that case it's about rewarding the ones who excelled...

also some people might be on vacations and might leave a few open spaces allowing more people to get in. HenryMag won't be playing, that's one more spot in singles...

All this talk about me and my doubles partner. Causing controversy we don't even know about

Neither Adam nor I am Serbian so if both of us don't play for Serbia, Daniela86 still won't have a partner, no? Or is there a mystery fourth Serb/"Serb" :p If there is a fourth person, then they join the team too and all 4 of us have partners :p

If you want Adam to play for Scotland, Jeronimo, then team USA gets me and then Daniela still doesn't have a partner. Anyway, if Daniela86 really wants to play doubles at the Olympics, I'll play with her and Adam can make his crazy picks by himself ;) I'm willing to make that sacrifice

Oh shut up, you just want to have your way, have a way that favours you the most.

Chris has represented Slovenia in Fed Cup since day 1, that was long before you even started to play this game, and he'll do the same in the Olympics.

Tons of players don't represent their actual countries in TT, or do you expect us to like scan our passports and show them to you, so we then order players to represent the countries they are actually from. Representing the country you represented in Fed Cup is a sensible rule to me. Also even in Fed Cup you whined how you want to play for some different country, just so you get to play. It's a joke, how you always want to change things to favour you, even if there's a contradiction in the long run.

It's not hard. Either you play for Russia in both singles and doubles or you play for Venezuela in singles and doubles. In the last case you most likely will only play singles, but that's how the system works.

if I haven't played in the Fed Cup can I choose to play for any nation I want (I obviously wouldn't choose a country that has too many players anyway)?

If you haven't played Fed Cup, you can play only for your country in both singles and doubles (matching up with someone who represents the same nation as you)

And for Russia
But as you think more, it becomes less strange... It's about TOP5 doubles player :haha:

Hotzenplotz

I take it the top 4 doubles players of each country are allowed to play so commitments of the number 4 and 5, if they keep their positions (Adrian/Schwabenpfeil) won't be valid? Maybe the top doubles player of each country should get responsibility for the doubles teams?

Jeronimo

Firstly, Scotland don't compete in the Olympics, Britain do.

Secondly, you've made about 20 posts in here all stating the same thing, still no-one agrees with you. How about giving up?

Thirdly, how do you know where each person is from? Maybe I'm American? Can I play doubles with savestheday91 for USA? or maybe she's British and we can play for Britain? :D

:D

Adam and Jess  I mean the Olympics wouldn't be complete without them, if they want to represent Mars they could for all I care :D

Awww :D Mars it is :rocker2:

He wants to play both, but represent Venezuela at the same time. :awww: So things have to be adapted for him, but it was perfectly okay to say I should perhaps not play doubles at all. :(

Well, he can't have his cake and eat it too. I think it was worse though from your perspective, he wanted to play doubles with you on a wildcard at one point.

There's only so much we can support

I support the fight to end world hunger

I support the 'whale wants the whale' Lindsay Davenport campaign to win Indian Wells

I just cannot fit in 'Jeronimo wants to make up the rules and play for 40 different countries' into my packed agenda
