Elena Dementieva seen practicing for her highly anticipated debut

ESTORIL, Portugal - Russian newcomer Elena Dementieva was given a Wildcard by tournament organizers to compete at the Estoril Open. Dementieva, who is a good friend of World #7 Svetlana Kuznetsova, also shares some of the same coaches. Scouts have given rave reviews about the newcomer praising her with comments such as "a great all-around game" and "she is on of the quickest players on tour." Scouts were most impressed with her solid groundstrokes especially a monster forehand. The only weakness that the scouts see is her serve where she often double faults and has a bad ball toss." Elena said, "I'm willing to work on every aspect of my game and I really hope that I can make a good transition here." In the first round, Elena will go up against Maria "Pitu" Salerni of Argentina. Elena said, "I have no expectations right now. I have nothing to lose. I'm just going to go out and give my best and hopefully I will get good results."

American Ashley Harkleroad and hitting partner Dinara Safina are set to make their tour debut in Estoril USA. Neither has played a match on tour before so no one knows what too expect. Both are in the same half, but it is fair to say Ash has the harder draw.

“I will play #1 seeded Marta Domachowska in the first round. Not a good draw at all; but what can I do about it? I’ll just have to play my best and hope she doesn’t, I have nothing to loose and hope that means I’m not too nervous. I hope it’s a good match and I can stay out there as long as possible.

Dina will play Serbian sensation Ana Ivanovic who is seen as a big prospect for the future.

“Well she hits very hard and her forehand is one of the very best on tour, I will just have to make sure my groundies are solid and she can’t attack my serve. I will try to get her on the run and get the 1st strike in. If it will work I don’t know”

Both expressed relief that none of the very best players on tour are here,

“Yes I don’t think I’m ready to face them yet, there is always the fear that you will get blown off court. Hopefully there won’t be massive crowds here; I don’t know if I could handle the pressure. I hope to break gently into the tour. Having said that I’m against the #1 seed, so maybe not as gently as I would have hoped.”

Today both Dinara Safina and Ashley Harkleroad released a press statement asking for doubles partners.

“Obviously we would like to play with each other, as we train together so much, but that is not allowed so if anyone wants to play with us that would be great” says Ash “We are very new on tour so it would be an honour if anyone wanted to play with us, we will try our utmost not to let you down”

“Doubles is very important to me as I can learn from it and my partner to improve my game, particularly volleying. I am looking for someone calm and collected really as I can be a bit of a head-case but I wont reject anyone. I just hope our doubles matches are fun!”

Russian Roulette

Jelena Jankovic bravely chose to take a chance today when she agreed to partner Russian wild child Dinara Safina. Dina has been known to loose control in matches and hit out at the closest thing. We can only hope Jelena has her head firmly attached by the end of the week.

"Well I don't mean to loose my temper. Things just start to go wrong and then I see red and then I don't really remember what happens after that. I would never deliberately hurt Jelena she is a very nice person, but I have to admit she is taking risk. On the bright side she is a very fast runner so she may be able to escape if I go on the rampage. I wish her the best of luck"

Meanwhile hitting partner Ashley Harkleroad is awaiting response from Agniezka Radwanska to form a doubles team. The Polish girl originally asked to play with Safina but back room meetings, in traditional Russian style, had already taken place between Jelena and Dinara's coaches about playing doubles so Ash asked is Aga would mind playing with her

"If she agrees I will be very happy, Aga has a very unique game, very crafty with lots of variety. I can learn a lot from her I hope. Playing doubles will be an interesting experience and I am learning polish now in the hope she accepts. I hope it doesn't go to waste!

Complicated début
The French Camille Pin was presenting this Tuesday in Estoril's tourmanet and she was played with her best friend Allize Cornet for the first round for which was a very complicated début.
Camille and Allize were playing to double meetings but they affirm that inside singles not were complications.

Disbelieving Debutants!

The doubles draw was released earlier this week and it could not be worse for debutants Dinara Safina and Ashley Harkleroad. Ashley has managed to draw #1 seed Marta Domachowska in both the singles and the doubles.

"Me and my partner [Agniezka Radwanska] will face the top ranked pair of Marta and Ana. They have amazing games and both are competent volleyers so we will really have to play our best and hope for a bit of luck. I've had so much bad luck with the draw so far I suppose I’m due some good. I think it will be swift justice however and I will have plenty of time to cheer for Dinara and my other new found friends"

Dinara Safina and her partner Jelena Jankovic have drawn the #2 ranked pair of Tatiana Golovin and Jorgelina Cravero.

"Well what can I say about Tati? She is so young and with so much talent and she works so well with Jorge they are a well oiled team. I have a feeling we will be dong a lot of running and retrieving so I suppose I am lucky in the sense I am playing with Jelena - who is probably the best mover on tour. We have never played together so we will not be as oiled as our opposition. But I like to look on the bright side and will stay out there as long as possible"

Dinara stumbles while Ashley shines

The top half of the Estoril draw played their 1st round match earlier today. Newcomer Dinara Safina fell, 6-4 6-2, to the Serbian power player Ana Ivanovic in a close and exiting match. However there was only ever going to be one winner

"Her serve was amazing today, I really couldn't attack it - when I did get break points I couldn't take them and she took hers. Her ground game is huge; particularly her forehand and I couldn't compete with that. I have to work on my consistency. I also think I have to work more on my volleying as this may have change the balance of the match in key points. I wish her the best of luck for the rest of the tournament"

Meanwhile hitting partner Ashley Harkleroad pulled off a massive upset defeating #1 seed Marta Domachowska, 3-6 6-4 6-4, on centre court.

"Wow! I can't believe it. I managed to play my very best tennis out there today. After going a set down I lost all my nerves and just starting hitting with everything I had and it worked. It was a fight right to the end though, with many games going to deuce. It' must be hard to play a new player as you don't know how they will play. Also she has played a lot recently and my legs were fresh - I think that definitely worked in my advantage in the 3rd set. Next round I will play Martina Muller who defeated my doubles partner Agniezka Radwanska she will be a tough match but anything from here on is a bonus for me as I didn't expect to get this far."

Both players look forward to doubles later where Marta will look to get revenge for her loss today!

Camille Pin obtained this Thursday the pass to the final semi of the Estoril Open in Portugal winning the Serbian Ana Ivanovic for 6-3 7-5 in 1 hr of game.
The French that I make début this season in E.W.TA. has obtained excellent results, only losing 1 time in 1 round of 7 tilts that she dispute.
Camille was facing in the final semi the surprise of the tournament the German Martina Muller.

For the tournament of doubles the French lost together with her best friend the French Allize Cornet.

Se le escapo por poco

Estoril, Portugal. La Argentina Jorgelina Cravero termino su participacion en Portugal perdiendo por los cuartos de final frente a la rusa Elena Dementieva por 7-5 7-5 en 2 hr de juego.
Jorgelina cumplio asi su mejor actuacion en torneos de E.W.T.A ya que en este torneo no debio jugar Qualy y gano 2 partidos seguidos todo una hazaña para ella.
Jorgelina se siente motivada y cree que jugando esta clase de torneos va a llegar a estar mas arriba del ranking.

Another surprise final, Martina struggles all the year, and this run to the final is simply amazing, beating some good players, Agnieszka Radwanska and Camille Pin, these two experienced players. Also she shows her mental tough in her semifinals match against Pin, saves a couple of match points. Watch out for Martina, she can be very dangerous on clay!!

And for Elena, she is making her debut here, but with no nerves!! Her dream debut is perfect, reached the final and became the third debut players to reach the final, after Vadisova, Pin. Vaidisova successfully captures the title in Bogota, can Elena also do the same thing, she has wins over good claycourters, Salerni, Cravero, Cibulkova, she surely has a good chance!!

Who will win?? Catch up the final tomarrow after the Charleston final, you will know who gonna be triumph in the beautiful Estoril!!

Ranings projection

Estoril, Portugual. To the French Camille Pin her there went away the great opportunity to play her first final in the circuit. She lost today opposite to the German Martina Muller for 6-2 3-6 7-5 in 2 hr of game and lost this way of the tournament.
The French permission of winning in the first round her best friend Alize Cornet and yesterday her earned the Serbian Ana Ivanovic, this way the French says goodbye of the tilt since also lost too in doubles.
