Patch Jun 11th, 2008, 08:09 AM Season 2 - Bonus Points
This season there will be a chance to collect bonus points in each tournament. You can win bonus points either by writing an article (worth 5 bonus pts) or beating a player who has more surface points than you (worth 3 bonus pts)
However, you will only be able to use these points at Grand Slams. You collect up as much points as you can in the weeks between Slams to use at the next Slam coming up. So all bonus points you make during Wks 1, 2 and 3 will be used to add on to your normal points at the Australian Open. The same will be done for the other three slams and the Olympics
Any Questions?
:wavey:

Japan - 30

Argentina - 15

Obziler said in an interview after the draw came out. "I'm going to try my best and hope I can get some good results. http://images.supersport.co.za/Ruano_Pascual001s.JPG
After a good debut, Spain will be looking to make it farther this week
SYDNEY, Australia - Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain will be making her debut for Spain on the World Tennis Tour at the Tier I event in Sydney. Spain had a successful debut last week in Hobart coming out of the blocks to qualify only to lose to 4th seeded South Africa in three tight sets. This week, Spain will be sending out doubles specialist Virginia Ruano Pascual for both singles and doubles. The seasoned veteran said she is nervous about her debut, "I'm very excited yet nervous about my debut on the World Tennis Tour. For us, we are not very strong on this surface so the only thing we can do is fight and maybe we can come out on top." In the first round singles, the Spaniards will be facing Croatia who still haven't named their player while in the first round of doubles, they will be facing Russia's Maria Kirilenko and Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova.
Uranium Jun 15th, 2008, 05:39 PM Lindsay Davenport Set To Make Season Debut
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/01/20/davenport_wideweb__430x303.jpg
Sydney, Australia
Lindsay Davenport will be making her debut of the season. She will hit the rebound ace courts of Sydney hoping to make some noise this week. In the first round, she will play Clarisa Fernandez of Argentina and if she can pull out that win, she would try to get revenge for USA on Iveta Benesova, who beat Shaughnessy in Auckland earlier this season.
"It's not the best draw, but it's not the worst. I look forward to playing here and trying to get a lot of points for my team. I personally don't like rebound ace, but I have a nice draw to make atleast the quarters, since I have 2 players that also don't favor the rebound ace. I will just have to practice hard and the results on this surface will come for our team."
Lindsay will be playing doubles with Obziler of Israel and in round 1 will take on Fernandez and Hsieh.
"Israeli team and our team have been close since Doha, we had a tight final out there that Venus won and were supposed to play doubles. We have been practicing and training together for 2 weeks now and I wish them luck here."
Lindsay has been practicing with Serena Williams as well this week, Serena will be representing the USA for the Australian Open.
"Serena and the whole team came here to cheer me on and practice with me. We are one of the closest teams and everyone always goes to the tournaments together to cheer each other on. Serena Williams will be playing the singles at the Australian Open, Venus Williams will be playing the Mixed and Lisa Raymond will be playing the doubles. I will only be playing this event on Rebound Ace, which is fine. I hope to try to play my best here and bring home some ranking points and bonus points for my team."

The queesns of the indoor season sent thier best indoors player to play on the rebound Ace of beautiful sunnyu, Sydney, Thier coach had a tough desision choosing between the main six, MaSha, MaKiri, Anna, Sveta Lena D, And Vera Zvonareva. Sveta took home the tiltle las week and immediatly celebrated, partying a bit to much, the partying caused her to miss her plane forcing her out of the contest to play. The Maria's also didnt play due to the numerous endorsement thsy had. Russia needed the money so they couulnt play either. Next The was Vera Zvonareva, and she was chosen , but then started crying because she felt bad for Elena and Anna. Now it was down to two and Dementieva had a breast augment surgery which prevented her from playing, which left the whineyest player Anna Chakvetadze to play singles, andSexy vixen Maria Kirilenko at doubles!

Sugiyama, far left, talks to the press along with tour staff in Sydney, Australia this morning
Japanese player Ai Sugiyama touched down in Sydney today to prepare for the final build up event to the Australian Open. Despite being the second seed for the tournament, Sugiyama says that she will be taking nothing for granted: "Yeah I have to be confident for my chances of success here, but every girl here is tough, no matter whether she is a specialist on this surface on just here for the ranking points. I don't start until later on in the event so it gives me plenty of time to carry out my media engagements and help promote the tour, but it does mean that the other girls will have more match practice on the surface. Kimiko reached the final of the first event of the season so I hope I can go one better here."

Uranium Jun 17th, 2008, 12:01 AM Davenport Hits Pracitce Courts for Last Time Before Tuesday Start
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/01/25/davenport_gallery__421x550.jpg
Sydney, Australia
Lindsay Davenport hit the practice court for the final time before she plays her first match of the season tomorrow.
Lindsay will play Clarisa Fernandez of Argentina.
"I practiced today with an up-and-coming American Angela Haynes. I wanted to hit with a lefty today to have practice for when I play Clarisa and then possibly Iveta. So we hit the courts and it was a good practice, I have some game plans now going in to try to exploit Clarisa's left handness."
Lindsay Davenport will play doubles with Obziler once again against Clarisa Fernandez and Hsieh.
"Tzipsi and I hit the practice courts for the last time to practice our doubles skills. We played with Israel's Glushko and Angela to get practice for our opponents and to give both our teams practice."
After this event, Lindsay doubts on playing any event during the clay season.
"Clay is not my favorite surface to say the least. I might play doubles, but I won't play the singles, I'll leave that to Venus, Serena and Meghann."
Lindsay hopes to go far this week and give her team some much needed points.

Uranium Jun 17th, 2008, 09:53 PM Lindsay Serves Up First Win For USA on Rebound Ace
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2374/2240181484_f264475ca8.jpg?v=0
Sydney, Australia
Lindsay Davenport took the court for the first time of the season today against Clarisa Fernandez of Argentina. Lindsay went in the seed favorite, but the underdog based on the surface.
In set 1, Lindsay looked a bit rusty and was making a few too many unforced errors, and Clarisa took full advantage of it. Lindsay's first serve was a dismal 48% and won 24% of her second serve points. Clarisa took advantage of every short ball she got and of any chance to exploit Lindsay's movement. Clarisa outplayed Lindsay to take set 1 6-2.
Set 2, Lindsay came out of the set break swinging, Lindsay started off the set strong with quick and easy holds. Lindsay used her favorite serve, the down the tee on the ad side to great use today. Lindsay overpowered Clarisa and smacked winners from both wings to cruise past Clarisa 6-3.
Set 3, Lindsay came out a bit sluggish and her first serve percentage went down once again, as 54%. Clarisa once again took advantage to attempt return winners and she was successful and got an early break for a 4-1 lead. Lindsay didn't give up as she then clawed her way right back to leveling the match at 4-4, with her grinding abilities and big groundstrokes. Clarisa held right back to break Lindsay's momentum and put pressure on Lindsay to stay in the match. Lindsay looked upset that she couldn't break and started swinging too freely and made too many unforced and faced match point at 30-40, but Lindsay saved it with her 5th ace of the match, down-the-tee to Clarisa's backhand who couldn't return it. Lindsay then aced her opponent off the court hitting 2 more to hold serve for 5-5. Lindsay just ran away with the match as she refound her rhythm and momentum and won the last 8 points of the match all with winners.
"I feel good about this win, she came in the favorite on this surface, but I never gave up against her and fought for every point. She played well, my serve was poor today and she hopped all over it to give me a tight match. I played below the way I usually do, but I won, so I am happy. Next I play Iveta Benesova, the 4th seed, it should be a fun match, I hope to give USA the win."

Today in Sydney Anna CHakvetadze started her campiagn to win back to back titles for Russia. Last week Svetlana Kuznetsova was able to capture the Hobart title and help Russia break the top 10. Today Anna played the tough Geman Squad but was able to prevail with flying colors. The first game and warmm up was a major thing that helped show Russia s comfort on Rebound Ace and Germany's lack of ease. Winners were hit from all over the court and to finish the match Anna Chakvetadze emplored a serve and vooley tequnique that Julia Georges could do nothing about. Virginia turns to her slice against Karolina Sprem of Croatia
SYDNEY, Australia - In first round action, Spain's Virginia Ruano Pascual won her first singles match of the season toughing out a win over Karolina Sprem of Croatia 3-6, 6-3, 7-6[3]. In the first set saw Karolina using sheer power from all aspects of the court hitting winners and getting errors from Virginia. However, "Vivi" changed her tactics and started to use the whole court and getting lots of easy errors from Karolina. Not surprisingly, the third set was a real dogfight, both players giving it their all but ultimately Vivi was better on the bigger points taking the final set tiebreak 7 points to 3. Virginia said, "Yeah, it was a great match and I'm really happy to have come through. I'm not that comfortable on this surface but we[Spaniards] are trying to just give our best on the courts and that's all that we can do." In the second round, Virginia will face 2nd seeded Japan/Ai Sugiyama. Vivi said, "We aren't expecting much but I'm going to play my heart out there and I really hope that we can get the upset."

Uranium Jun 18th, 2008, 06:09 PM Davenport and Obziler Get Bounced in Sydney
http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2006/0826/ten_a_davenport2_195.jpg
Sydney, Australia
Lindsay Davenport and Tzipsi Obziler went in this week the favorites to pull off the doubles win, but instead were ousted in the first round by Clarisa Fernandez and Su-Wei Hsieh.
In the first set, Obziler, who was playing in her first match here at Sydney, was looking a bit rusty and not sure of her game plans. The first set went away from USA/Israel as their team work together was minimal as Fernandez/Hsieh won it 6-1.
Set 2, Davenport and Obziler picked up their games and starting getting loose and going for the lines and improving their net games. Obziler started poaching more off of Lindsay's serves and they were unstoppable as they crushed their opponents 6-0.
Set 3, Lindsay and Tsipzi lost all confidence and just went off into another world as they again started to make unforced errors and start playing as if they were some of the worst tennis players to be down 5-0. But they then refound their game and were able to fight their way back saving 10 Match points in the process of tying up the match at 5-5. Lindsay then started to look tired and called for the trainer for a strained thigh muscle. Lindsay didn't give up though, but should have as they lost the next 2 games and the match.
"I have been playing too much tennis lately, I am sad Tzipsi and I lost, but I just didn't have the energy to close thew match out. I played 2 three setters today and by 5-5 in the third of the doubles, I was dead, my legs were in pain. I also want to save some energy for singles and try to help my team do well in singles."
young_gunner913 Jun 18th, 2008, 06:37 PM Obziler Blogs From Australia
Hey guys,
Well today hasn't been the start of a good day. Today Linds and I lost in women's doubles and it really sucks. We had a couple of chances to make something in the third set but we just came up short. I think that the U.S will be playing with Israel for the Australian Open so I might get to play with the U.S again if I'm choosen to play doubles in Melbourne.
Right now I'm just waiting to go out and play my singles match. I'm not really feeling too good right now but I think that I can still go out and play singles today. I play Team Russia who are being represented by Anna Chakvetadze who is a good rebound ace player. I'm just going to go out and try my best. I think that's all I can really do.
Well, I'm going to eat a little snack then go get ready for my match. Wish me the best of luck, I think I'm going to need it. Bye.
-Tzipi.
