Amelie Mauresmo

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/512/fullj_getty-tennis-fed_cup-ita-fra_2_25_29_pm.jpg

The first player to accomplish level 3 status in WSC is Amelie Mauresmo. The current world number one, boasts a 20-4 record coming into the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic and has won a total of 7 titles, including the Australian Open, since the beginning of the season.

Amelie gained 200 ranking points and is now a Fair Indoor Player (170) , and a Good Clay Court Player (180), which should serve her well for the second grand slam of the season.

WSC would like to congratulate Amelie Mauresmo for attaining the number 3 level in WSC.

Dokic Ready For Clay Season
http://www.itfcaserta.com/images/gallery/foto/131.jpg
Berlin, Germany
Dokic hits the red clay season in preparation for the French Open. Dokic skipped the green clay season to play on the indoor/hard court events.
"I felt that I didn't need to play on green clay, it's useless. I feel that since we now have red clay, I will play on it to get in form for the French Open and try to resurrect my singles career."
Dokic has made a name for herself as a doubles expert lately, having recently made the world #1, and having won now 3 doubles titles.
"I love doubles, but I love singles more, and will try to focus more so on my singles game this week and try to bring my ranking back up."
http://www.itfcaserta.com/images%5Cnews%5CDokic%201.jpg
Dokic practiced her sliding and drop shots today.
"I really want to get more comfortable on this surface. It's not my favorite at all, but I still want to do well on it. I hope to get a kind draw, but knowing Warren, I'll get the top seed and lose in straight sets again."
"I hope I get a PC player, we are on even playing fields and I could actually win for the first time in singles ever since my debut. My coach hasn't seen a win since Davenport in Gold Coast, but he is proud of my doubles success."
Jelena will be seeking to go far and has requested to play doubles with Justine Henin.

Justine Henin made it to the semifinals of the Moorila Hobart International before being defeated by Amelie Mauresmo. The week after, she made it all the way to the finals of the Australian Open before once again, was defeated by Amelie Mauresmo, with the same scoreline. She made it one step better at her next event, which was on her favourite surface, clay.
Warren’s reason: She has been consistent. Winning her first title in Amelia Island. Also for the fantastic articles and interviews.

Honourable mention:

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/690740fc96.jpg
Amelie Mauresmo
Winning two titles, both on Rebound Ace, Amelie Mauresmo didn’t get the award just because she is a level 3 players and she will get a highlight from Warren.

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/e73cc9a0d0.jpg
Maria Sharapova
Making it to the semifinals of both the Banka Koper Slovenia and the Australian Open, on Grass and Rebound Ace respectively and winning her first singles title on the Nordea Nordic Light Open, on hard, she has been one of the most consistent on the tour and deserved an honourable mention.

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/ec657ed144.jpg
Daniela Hantuchova
Altough she lost early in Melbourne, she has been really consistent on the tour and has enjoyed 2 singles titles, both on different surfaces and being in the final of another tournament on another surface and she definitely deserves an honourable mention.

Sharapova Steady For Dirt

http://ontennis.com/files/images/maria-sharapova-charleston-210401.jpg

Maria Sharapova is in Berlin now and is training on the red clay court. She made it to the semifinals of the Family Circle Cup last week in Charleston before losing to eventual champion and compatriot, Elena Dementieva in the semifinals. Which is her 5th loss to an eventual champion before the finals. 4 of them in the semifinals. Maria Sharapova, also have made it to at least the semifinals of her last 5 events and has made it to at least the semifinals of all the surfaces she's played on. [Hard, Clay, Grass and Rebound Ace]

Sharapova is currently number 4 in the rankings, but if she has a good week here in Berlin, she could move up to number 3 and enter the top 3 for the first time. She has definitely been one of the most consistent players on the tour.

In Berlin, Sharapova is the number 2 seed behind Justine Henin and has a bye in the first round. She will play either, doubles partner, Maria Kirilenko or American Serena Williams in the second round. She leads in both their head-to-heads. Also on her side of the draw is, Steffi Graf and surprise Melbourne semifinalist, Nicole Vaidisova, who are playing in the first round. On the other side of the draw is last week's champion, Elena Dementieva and number 1 seed, Justine Henin. To start of the week, there are 14 players, in which 6 of them are Russian. Svetlana Kuznetsova, Anna Chakvetadze and Elena Dementieva, who are on the top half of the draw, and Elena Vesnina, Maria Kirilenko and Maria Sharapova on the bottom half. Out of the six, only two has won titles, Elena Dementieva, in Charleston last week and Maria Sharapova, in Stockholm, the week before that.

Jelena Set To Make WSC Debut

http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/9167/219893634774eed28656dw3.jpg

Jelena Jankovic of Serbia with Lindsay Davenport has been the latest additions to the WSC tour. Right now playing second banana to Ana Ivanovic, Jelena is known for a beautiful smile and a great athletic body, but she is definitely no pushover on the court. Scouts have said that she has solid groundstrokes especially off the backhand wing and can be called a solid all-around player. She also moves well and plays excellent defense and can play on all surfaces. However Jelena is not confident about her chances. "I think that I have all of the credentials to be a top player but I'm not sure if I can put it together on the court. I'm nervous about my debut but what player wouldn't be?" She has received a Wildcard into the Tier I event in Berlin and draws Anna Chakvetadze of Russia in the first round. Jelena commented, "It will be a very tough match for me. Anna is a great player and has solid groundstrokes and is able to change the direction of the ball almost effortlessly. I'm just going to try and focus on playing my own game and hopefully I'll come out top."

Top Seed Henin Looks To Turn Up Heat On The Red Clay

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/510/4mje35v.jpg
Justine Preparing For The European Red Clay

Justine Henin had a very successful Green clay season, winning the title in Amelia Island before finishing runner-up in Charleston to Elena Dementieva. Now as the tour moves onto the red clay of Europe Justine will be looking to continue her great clay form. However she will not be without some tough competition, there are many players that love to play on the clay which include last weeks titlist Dementieva, as well as fellow russian Kuznetsova. Surprisingly enough the top half of the draw this week in Berlin features almost allm of the Clay experts, which will of course be very difficult for the top seeded Belgian. She recieves a bye in the first round and will most likely meet Kuznetsova in the Quarterfinals, She then has the possibility of Dementieva in the semis, and in the finals either [2]Sharapova, Graf or Vaidisova all of which are very comfortable on the surface. With such a strong field this tournament is set to be one of the most exciting of the clay season, hopefully there will be some quality matches as we edge ever closer to the second Grand Slam of the season.

Henin commented on her Draw and the tournament in general:
"Well it is good to be on the red clay it is of course my favourite surface and very good preparation for Roland Garros. It is definitely a tough draw for me,For sure, Kuznetsova and Dementieva are both very good clay players, Dementieva beat me last week in the final so I have been working hard on my game hopefully next time we meet I can get a little revenge. I've been working hard with my coach on some new tactics I'm not really sure how well they will work, but I know I must do this otherwise I will not beat players like Dementieva, I guess we will have to wait and see."

Sharapova said that she's alright with the decision because if she wins she will get one match under her belt already and could give her a boost of confidence. Venus Williams entered the tour only recently, along with Jelena Jankovic and Lindsay Davenport.

Maria Sharapova has also been confirmed to play doubles with Maria Kirilenko. They lost a close match last week in the semifinal and will try to get a better result this time around. They will be playing in their second event together.

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/594/bd589113a69ad7c6560512cbe3e775b9-getty-tennis-wta-ita-sharapova.jpg

Berlin, Germany - Sharapova has beaten newcomer Venus Williams to make it into the quarterfinals of the Qatar Telecom German Open. Sharapova won after being down a break in the first set at 5-3 but managed to take it to a tiebreak and win it 7-4. The second set was a big battle, as they both held serve until 5-5 where Sharapova stormed and didn't lose a single point to make it to the Quarterfinals, where she will face, best friend and doubles partner, Maria Kirilenko who earlier defeated the other Williams sister 7-5 7-5.

Sharapova served beautifully, serving 8 aces, and hitting her groundstroke very well but the highlight of the day was her dropshots, winning her about 6 points with wonderful dropshots, both backhand and forehand. Sharapova is now into her seventh () Quarterfinals and will be looking for her 6th semifinals spot tomorrow.

Dokic Eyed Her First Singles Win Of Season
http://www.itfcaserta.com/images%5Cgallery%5Cfoto%5C136.jpg
Berlin, Germany
Jelena Dokic earned her first singles win since joining the tour. Jelena's coach picked up great succes with Davenport before she got a serious back injury and forced to retire. Jelena's coach, saw Jelena and immediately picked her up to train with.
Jelena's hard work has started to pay off just when she wants it to. Jelena has won 3 doubles titles on rebound ace, indoors and Hard courts. Jelena will be seeking to win the doubles title with Justine Henin here on the red clay of Berlin.
"I am playing with Justine, who hasn't exactly done well in doubles in a while, but I hope we can turn it around for her and win the doubles title here."
Dokic competed in singles today against Elena Vesnina, who made the finals last week in Seoul. In set 1, it looked like it was going to be another Dokic loss, as she made tons of unforced errors to be down 5-1, but from then on in Dokic turned it around and started finding a rhythm and hit countless amounts of winners from her forehand. Dokic leveled it at 5-5, before Elena held easily for 5-6. Dokic took it to a tiebreak where she dominated it with 3 aces and moving Elena around to set up easy put away winners. On set point, Elena served a big outwide serve and then hit her short reply crosscourt that Jelena barely ran down and hit a passing shot on, and let out a big "SHOOO!!".
Set 2, Dokic looked confident and kept her same game plan, smacking the ball hard and hitting the lines. Jelena raced off to a 4-0 lead before her opponent hit a controversial shot that was called in and Jelena thought was out.
http://www.itfcaserta.com/images%5Cgallery%5Cfoto%5C139.jpg
Dokic seemed to lose her focus from then on as Elena fought hard to take a 5-4 lead as Jelena just lost her mind and made constant errors. Jelena on the turn over, calmed down and regained her composure and started finding her range again. Jelena saved a set point with her 8th ace. Jelena from then on in was in control and closed out the match with a huge forehand cross court winner.
"It's been a long time since I won a singles title and it is a great feeling. I play Steffi next, I am excited to be in the QF again and hope to give Steffi a nice test, I won't put pressure on myself, I'll just go out there and play my game. I hope I can pull of the upset though."

http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/2008/1/b883e8ec-f694-4427-a3b2-422893b466faHiRes.JPG

On day one of the Qatar Telecom German Open, there were 7 matches and only one match didn't consist of a Russian. Out of the 6, only 3 survived. The first was the clay court expert, Svetlana Kuznetsova, who survived a first round scare by Francesca Schiavone, but eventually winning it 5-7 6-4 6-4. Anna Chakvetadze couldn't compete her match as she pulled out with a shoulder injury. The next was last week's champion, Elena Dementieva, but she couldn't live up to expectations as she lost to Na Li of China 6-7 4-6.

In the bottom half of the draw, Elena Vesnina was beaten by Jelena Dokic 6-7 5-7. Before Kirilenko became, just the second Russian, out of 5, to win her match as she defeated Serena Williams 7-6 7-5. Maria Sharapova was the last Russian on court and she faced the other Williams sister and defeated Venus 7-6 7-5. Svetlana Kuznetsova will now face number 1 seed, Justine Henin and the two Marias will play against each other for a place in the semifinals, so there will at least be one Russian in the semifinals. In the other 2 quarterfinals, it will be Jelena Jankovic against Na Li and number 3 seed Steffi Graf taking on Jelena Dokic.

With the Fed Cup coming, Sharapova looks like she will be the captain of the squad and the schedule of the Fed Cup is still unknown but will be released soon.

Jelena Jankovic Through To Her First Quarterfinal!

http://www.womenstennisblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/jjaleqm5jbboim4wyg50w7wbn119hld7tovg.jpg
Jelena waves to the crowd as word comes through that Anna Chakvetadze withdrew

ROME, Italy - In her debut match, Jelena Jankovic was really lucky. She advances to the quarterfinals on virtue of a walkover as Anna Chakvetadze withdrew due to an injury. Jelena said, "Well it's not a good way to get your first win but I'm happy to be in the quarterfinals[laughs]. I hope that Anna's injury improves and that she'll be back to competition as soon as possible." Jelena wasn't completely happy though. "I really wish that I could've played the match and earned my way to the quarterfinals but that's how it is in tennis sometimes. I wanted to see how my tactics work but at least I can showcase it on the big stage." In the quarterfinals, Jelena will go up against Na Li who upset 4th seeded Elena Dementieva in the first round. "Na will be a real test for me, she upset a clay court expert in Elena so I have to be on top of my game if I want the win."

Fed Cup will follow Roland Garros
-it will be on neutral surfaces, and you don't have to be from the same country to play in fed cup. Four players may pick their squad and have names like, USA, Russia, Blond Bomshells, Etc...... (kind of like in Tennis Poker if any of you guys play). Fed Cup will be fun and ranking points will be awarded!

(1) J. Henin

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/510/U2132P6T12D3237592F44DT20071020235557.jpg

(1) J. Henin def. S. Kuznetsova 7-5, *7-6 and battles into the semi-finals of the Qatar Telecom German Open against an evenly match opponent in Sveltana Kuznetsova. This is one of those matches where the players were so evenly matched, that luck decided the winner, so the match could have went either way! Great match Justine, don't be discouraged Sveltana you are on the right track!!!

This Sounds Great :yeah:

Dani is soooo in my team! :)

With 8 coin-tosses total in this match we all know it could have went either way today. Sharapova just had more on her serve in final game of the third set. Great match. :worship:

Sharapova Fights Her Way to Semis

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/c78ad6df7a.jpg

Maria Sharapova has fought her way to the semifinals of this year's Qatar Total German Open after defeating best friend and doubles partner, Maria Kirilenko in three tough sets and produced one of the best matches of the year. Maria Sharapova served first and she held serve with Kirilenko following to hold serve. But Maria Kirilenko made the first move of the day, breaking Sharapova to love and held her own sefve to lead 3-1. Sharapova then held serve and broke back to love also, levelling the match back up to 3-3. Both girls continued to hold their serves until 6-5 where Sharapova made the crucial break to win the first set by 7-5.

In the second set, Kirilenko broke Sharapova straight away and cosolidates to lead 0-2, but Sharapova held her own serve and having 2 break points on Kirilenko's serve, she couldn't take it and Kirilenko held her serve. Kirilenko then broke Sharapova again to go up two breaks, but Sharapova took one of them back but this wasn't enough to stop Kirilenko from taking the set 6-2.

The third set was almost the same story as the first, Sharapova held first and broke again, straight away and leads 2-0, but she couldn't hold her own serve and made the set back to neutral. But Sharapova isn't the type of player who would give up and she breaks Kirilenko again but this time she held her serve. Kirilenko held serve the next game, saving 1 break point and breaks Sharapova to love and following that with another love game hold. Everything was equal now at 4-4 and Sharapova was serving. She had 3 game points but couldn't convert so Kirilenko took advantage and broke Sharapova to 15, taking the 5-4 lead and the chance to serve out the match. Kirilenko had 2 match points but a strong-willed Sharapova wouldn't give up as it seems that everytime she's a match point down, she steps her game up a gear. So Sharapova broke and held her game to lead again at 6-5. Kirilenko did well to serve to stay in the match, holding to 30. But in the tiebreaker it was Sharapova who came out on top, with the score 7-2.

Sharapova will now face number 3 seed, Steffi Graf and is looking for her 2nd final. This is Sharapova's 6th semifinals in a row and she is happy about the way she played today. If she wins her semifinals match tomorrow, she will be most likely to take over the number 3 spot. If she loses, she will stay as number 4.

Fed Cup will be fun and ranking points will be awarded!

so can we get like a commitment thread for it?

Interview with Jelena Dokic
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/11/05/jelena_dokic_narrowweb__300x426,0.jpg
Berlin, Germany
After her tough loss yesterday to Steffi Graf, Dokic in her press conference decided to discuss some issues involving her game and Fed Cup.
Q: What happened out there against Steffi?
JD: I tried to play my best game out there, but nothing was working for me. Steffi is an amazing clay courter and clay is my worst, so I felt like I didn't have much of a chance anyways. It didn't help the cause when I fell on my ankle in the second set.
Q: What do you think of your game right now?
JD: I feel confident, I finally got my first win since Sydney and am gaining my confidence in singles back. I am also doing well in doubles, so I am happy with my game.
Q: You've had some bad losses, is this your worst so far?
JD: No, I was outplayed by Steffi, but my worst was losing to Kirilenko 6-2 6-2 in front of my home crowd, it was a very sad moment for me.
Q: What are your thoughts about the upcoming events, like the French Open?
JD: I am optimistic, I am improving with the passing of each match, and I play in Rome next. I hope to get a kind draw, and hope to do well. At Roland Garros, I feel I am a dark horse that can pull off an upset on any day, so beware!
Q: How about your thoughts on Fed Cup?
JD: I am looking forward to it. I would like to play with my countrywoman Stosur or my good friend Golovin. I hope to get a good team and just be successful.
Q: You're playing doubles here, correct?
JD: Yes, I am playing with Justine Henin and we will look forward to playing and trying to win this title. I have won on Rebound Ace, Indoors and Hard, so I only need clay and grass, to have won on every surface.
Q: Who are your friends on tour?
JD: I am friends with Golovin and Dementieva, they are probably the 2 I am closest to. Also, Sveta, ugly girls need love too:hug:
Q: Who aren't you close with?
JD: I don't like Maria Sharapova or Amelie Mauresmo, they are way to arrogant for my liking, not to mention the incidents between them in the locker room, but that's on the down low.
Q: What tournament are you looking forward to this season?
JD: Without doubt Wimbledon, I love grass and I feel that Wimbledon will bring me great success.
Q: Good Luck in doubles this week.
JD: Thank you.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2071/2494015822_882a338240_o.jpg

Maria Sharapova has crashed out of the Qatar Telecom German Open losing to Steffi Graf 6-4 6-2.Despite the loss, Sharapova will stay at number 4 after Samantha Stosur also crashed out in the semifinals in Bali. Steffi Graf will be the new number 3 and Samantha Stosur will move down to number 5 when the new rankigns are released next week. Sharapova said that she was still tired from last night's long match but didn't blame it on the fatigue. She simply said that "Steffi played better today, she deserves to be in the finals."
