Sharapova Rome Preview

http://www2.tennisserver.com/images/meaney/070607/MariaSharapova01.jpg

Sharapova will be playing in Rome this week and is the number 2 seed behind Justine Henin, agian. After a disappointing 5th loss in the semifinals last week, to Steffi Graf, Sharapova said that she came to Rome with a different tactic but it's a big risk. She said "I'm not too confident with my new points, but life is about taking risks right?"
Sharapova will also play doubles with Maria Kirilenko this week, for 3 weeks in a row.

The draw has just been released and Sharapova is the number 2 seed. The top 2 seeds, gets 2 byes () and goes straight into the Quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals she could meet, the number 8 seed and Russian, Dinara Safina or newcomer Jelena Jankovic or Venus Williams. In Sharapova's half, is number 4 seed, Elena Dementieva, and number 6 seed, Svetlana Kuznetsova. Another Russian in her half is another newcomer Vera Zvonareva.

In the other half of the draw is number 1 seed, Justine Henin, number 3 seed, Steffi Graf, number 5 seed, Nicole Vaidisova and number 7 seed, Ashley Harkleroad. There are another 3 Russians on the top half of the draw, Nadia Petrova, Maria Kirilenko and Anna Chakvetadze. To start with there are 8 Russians, 4 of them are seeds and they are all in the bottom half of the draw.

In Rome

http://www.celebrityoftheyear.com/images/celebs/maria_sharapova.jpg

Hey guys,

It's Maria again :wavey: As you all know, I lost in the semifinals again. I mean it's great and all, it's top 4 so I can't complain. Plus, I'm number 3 now. It feels so good. I mean, TOP 3:bounce:. My goal now is number 2 and then number 1, but I want to win a grandslam as well. I was so happy when I entered the top 10, but and then the top 5 I was just like, really happy. We partied just because of it. And now another step forward, TOP 3!!! OMG Anyway.. I won't brag about this anymore.

As you all know there has been some controversy with like nearly everyone on the tour and Jelena Dokic. I want to straighten this out right now, I didn't start it. I didn't even do anything and she started BITCHING about me, Daniela, Amelie and Justine. I mean what's her f***ing problem. Anyway, I'm fine. If she wants a fight, she will get a fight!

Whatever, I'm in Rome now and I'm excited to play here. It's such a beautiful country full of beautiful people. Every single one is so nice. I'm the number 2 seed again, behind Justine again . Nah, it's okay, I love Justine, she's a nice girl. The top 2 seeds get byes to the Quarters and I'm happy about that. That's 2 less matches to play. The other seeds gets one bye. Also, there are 8 Russians in the draw. WOW!!! RUSSIAN INVASION!!! :woohoo:. There are so many Russian and I'm playing doubles with one of them. Hopefully we can take the title.

In my last match, I kinda sprained my wrist a little bit and I'm still playing just for you guys, I mean, I love playing tennis. I am changing my tactics this week and I really want to see how it works out, especially 1 week before the grandslam. So if this tactic works, and pray it does, I will use it for Roland Garros, the second grandslam of the year. I made it to the semis of Australian Open, but hopefully I can go 1 or even 2 better here on the clay.

Daniela [Hantuchova], Amelie [Mauresmo], Justine [Henin] and I have made a pact that we will play fed cup together. I mean, this fed cup is different from the others. You can choose your own team, HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!?! Our team will be looking to play against Dokic's team so we could kick their BIG ASSES!!! Anyway that's enough now. Good night :hearts:

XOXOX

...CAREER...

Maria Sharapova started her campaign in the Pacific Life Open but it was cut short as she lost her first match to Jelena Dokic in two sets, 5-7 3-6. She played her next event in the Sony Ericsson Open winning 2 matches there, first against fellow Russian, Maria Kirilenko 6-3 7-5 and the second match against Ashley Harkleroad 7-6 7-6. But lost her next match against another Russian, Elena Dementieva 4-6 5-7 in the Quarterfinals.

She then went to play Hobart but unfortunately lost her first match on the Rebound Ace against Rebound Ace expert Amelie Mauresmo, winning only 1 game in the 1-6 0-6 defeat. Mauresmo then went on to win the tournament. She played in Sydney next where after 2 rounds of 3 set wins, she lost to Amelie Mauresmo again, this time taking 3 games off 2-6 1-6, where Mauresmo extended her winning streak winning the whole tournament.

In Slovenia she played her first grass court event and looked pretty comfortable on the surface, winning against Eleni Daniilidou and Nicole Vaidisova before falling to eventual champion Daniela Hantuchova in a tight three setter, losing the final set in a tiebreak, 6-3 4-6 6-7. But it was a different story in the doubles, winning the tournament with Ashley Harkleroad, who paired up in the last second.

The first grandslam was held the next week, where she got a bye in the first round and then playing American, Serena Williams and winning 7-6 7-6. She then won against Jill Craybas 6-3 6-2. In the semifinals, she once against played the number 1 player, Amelie Mauresmo. Losing 4-6 3-6. This is the fourth time in a row that she has lost to the eventual champion.

The week after she played in Stockholm in the Nordea Nordic Light Open. The first round was a tough challenge for the Russian. Saving 5 match points, before eventually winning 3-6 7-5 7-5. She then defeated Tatiana Golovin in the Quarterfinals 6-4 6-4 to set up another mouthwatering clash with the world’s number 1 for the first time on a surface other than rebound ace. Sharapova looks comfortable on the surface winning 7-5 6-3. She then faced Daniela Hantuchova in the finals, who defeated her in a tight contest just 2 weeks ago. Hantuchova was the favourite in this final, but the occasion didn’t seem to affect Sharapova at all winning her first singles title, after a comfortable 6-2 6-2 win over the Slovak.

Coming off a great week on the hard court, Sharapova continued her good form, and is currently playing in the Family Circle cup, which is her first clay court event. She played Jill Craybas in the first round and won easily 6-3 6-3 and defeated the clay court expert, Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5 7-5 in the Quarters to make it to her 5th consecutive semifinals. But in the semis, she lost to clay court expert and fellow Russian, Elena Dementieva 4-6 5-7.

With this win, she moved up to a career high of number 4. She is currently playing in the Qatar Telecom German Open. She is the number 2 seed, behind Justine Henin and she is in the Quarterfinals after defeating newcomer, Venus Williams, 7-6 7-5. Sharapova faced, best friend and doubles partner in the quarters and won in a thriller 7-5 2-6 7-6. She faced Steffi Graf in the semifinals but lost it 4-6 2-6, despite the loss she moves up another spot in the ranking to number 3.

Sharapova played in Rome and after having a bye in the first two rounds, Sharapova played Jelena Jankovic in the quarterfinals, but she got injured during her warm up. But she still played but lost 4-6 5-7.

Maria Sharapova has now moved up to number 4 in the rankings taking over Steffi Graf this week. She is now 96 points in front of Steffi and is only 94 points behind Australian Samantha Stosur. A strong showing in Berlin could mean she could take over the number 3 spot. Sharapova says that she wants to do well here in Berlin, not just for the ranking but for the preparation towards the second grandslam of the year, Roland Garros.

MY FIRST OFFICIAL WEEKLY DOODLE

http://images.askmen.com/galleries/model/maria-sharapova/pictures/maria-sharapova-picture-2.jpg

Hey guys,

I am so excited to be blogging in my own thread. I have to thank Warren for letting me post a thread for me. Well I have been blogging from Charleston, so I won't write too long. Well I'm in Berlin now. Got off the plane about 3 hours ago and we're having a player's party later on, so I'm very excited about that.

Well I'm also happy that I am number 4 in the world now. It sounds unreal to me. But my goal now is to win more titles and enter the world's top 3. Maria Kirilenko and I played last week in Charleston. We were so close to winning that semifinals. We lost it 6-4 7-5 7-5. SO it could've gone either way. We will play again this week in Berlin and hopefulyl we can show a stronger performance and we will be working on our game.
Next week is the Roland Garros and I am so excited. I made it to the semifinals of the Australian Open and I am hoping I can do better here in Paris. So wish me luck.

I'll blog again next week after Berlin is over.

Love, Maria

She made it one step better at her next event, which was on her favourite surface, clay.
Warren’s reason: She has been consistent. Winning her first title in Amelia Island. Also for the fantastic articles and interviews.

Honourable mention:

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/690740fc96.jpg
Amelie Mauresmo
Winning two titles, both on Rebound Ace, Amelie Mauresmo didn’t get the award just because she is a level 3 players and she will get a highlight from Warren.

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/e73cc9a0d0.jpg
Maria Sharapova
Making it to the semifinals of both the Banka Koper Slovenia and the Australian Open, on Grass and Rebound Ace respectively and winning her first singles title on the Nordea Nordic Light Open, on hard, she has been one of the most consistent on the tour and deserved an honourable mention.

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/ec657ed144.jpg
Daniela Hantuchova
Altough she lost early in Melbourne, she has been really consistent on the tour and has enjoyed 2 singles titles, both on different surfaces and being in the final of another tournament on another surface and she definitely deserves an honourable mention.

Jelena Dokic
Altough she hasn't done as well as some others on the circuit in singles. She in one of the best, if not the best doubles player out there. Picking up a few titles. Well done Jelena. You deserve this honourable mention

I just need the number of doubles title you've won. Thanks Jelena.

Sharapova Steady For Dirt

http://ontennis.com/files/images/maria-sharapova-charleston-210401.jpg

Maria Sharapova is in Berlin now and is training on the red clay court. She made it to the semifinals of the Family Circle Cup last week in Charleston before losing to eventual champion and compatriot, Elena Dementieva in the semifinals. Which is her 5th loss to an eventual champion before the finals. 4 of them in the semifinals. Maria Sharapova, also have made it to at least the semifinals of her last 5 events and has made it to at least the semifinals of all the surfaces she's played on. [Hard, Clay, Grass and Rebound Ace]

Sharapova is currently number 4 in the rankings, but if she has a good week here in Berlin, she could move up to number 3 and enter the top 3 for the first time. She has definitely been one of the most consistent players on the tour.

In Berlin, Sharapova is the number 2 seed behind Justine Henin and has a bye in the first round. She will play either, doubles partner, Maria Kirilenko or American Serena Williams in the second round. She leads in both their head-to-heads. Also on her side of the draw is, Steffi Graf and surprise Melbourne semifinalist, Nicole Vaidisova, who are playing in the first round. On the other side of the draw is last week's champion, Elena Dementieva and number 1 seed, Justine Henin. To start of the week, there are 14 players, in which 6 of them are Russian. Svetlana Kuznetsova, Anna Chakvetadze and Elena Dementieva, who are on the top half of the draw, and Elena Vesnina, Maria Kirilenko and Maria Sharapova on the bottom half. Out of the six, only two has won titles, Elena Dementieva, in Charleston last week and Maria Sharapova, in Stockholm, the week before that.

Maria to Face Venus

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42462000/jpg/_42462004_sha416.jpg

Maria Sharapova will not get a bye in the first round after all, after a wildcard was given to American, Venus Williams. Sharapova said that she's alright with the decision because if she wins she will get one match under her belt already and could give her a boost of confidence. Venus Williams entered the tour only recently, along with Jelena Jankovic and Lindsay Davenport.

Maria Sharapova has also been confirmed to play doubles with Maria Kirilenko. They lost a close match last week in the semifinal and will try to get a better result this time around. They will be playing in their second event together.

Sharapova Into Quarters

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/594/bd589113a69ad7c6560512cbe3e775b9-getty-tennis-wta-ita-sharapova.jpg

Berlin, Germany - Sharapova has beaten newcomer Venus Williams to make it into the quarterfinals of the Qatar Telecom German Open. Sharapova won after being down a break in the first set at 5-3 but managed to take it to a tiebreak and win it 7-4. The second set was a big battle, as they both held serve until 5-5 where Sharapova stormed and didn't lose a single point to make it to the Quarterfinals, where she will face, best friend and doubles partner, Maria Kirilenko who earlier defeated the other Williams sister 7-5 7-5.

Sharapova served beautifully, serving 8 aces, and hitting her groundstroke very well but the highlight of the day was her dropshots, winning her about 6 points with wonderful dropshots, both backhand and forehand. Sharapova is now into her seventh () Quarterfinals and will be looking for her 6th semifinals spot tomorrow.

Sharapova Fights Her Way to Semis

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/c78ad6df7a.jpg

Maria Sharapova has fought her way to the semifinals of this year's Qatar Total German Open after defeating best friend and doubles partner, Maria Kirilenko in three tough sets and produced one of the best matches of the year. Maria Sharapova served first and she held serve with Kirilenko following to hold serve. But Maria Kirilenko made the first move of the day, breaking Sharapova to love and held her own sefve to lead 3-1. Sharapova then held serve and broke back to love also, levelling the match back up to 3-3. Both girls continued to hold their serves until 6-5 where Sharapova made the crucial break to win the first set by 7-5.

In the second set, Kirilenko broke Sharapova straight away and cosolidates to lead 0-2, but Sharapova held her own serve and having 2 break points on Kirilenko's serve, she couldn't take it and Kirilenko held her serve. Kirilenko then broke Sharapova again to go up two breaks, but Sharapova took one of them back but this wasn't enough to stop Kirilenko from taking the set 6-2.

The third set was almost the same story as the first, Sharapova held first and broke again, straight away and leads 2-0, but she couldn't hold her own serve and made the set back to neutral. But Sharapova isn't the type of player who would give up and she breaks Kirilenko again but this time she held her serve. Kirilenko held serve the next game, saving 1 break point and breaks Sharapova to love and following that with another love game hold. Everything was equal now at 4-4 and Sharapova was serving. She had 3 game points but couldn't convert so Kirilenko took advantage and broke Sharapova to 15, taking the 5-4 lead and the chance to serve out the match. Kirilenko had 2 match points but a strong-willed Sharapova wouldn't give up as it seems that everytime she's a match point down, she steps her game up a gear. So Sharapova broke and held her game to lead again at 6-5. Kirilenko did well to serve to stay in the match, holding to 30. But in the tiebreaker it was Sharapova who came out on top, with the score 7-2.

Sharapova will now face number 3 seed, Steffi Graf and is looking for her 2nd final. This is Sharapova's 6th semifinals in a row and she is happy about the way she played today. If she wins her semifinals match tomorrow, she will be most likely to take over the number 3 spot. If she loses, she will stay as number 4.

Sharapova: "The Only Way To Go Is Up"

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/43011000/jpg/_43011675_sharapova.jpg

Despite her loss to Steffi Graf in the semifinals, Sharapova has moved uip another spot to number 3 and break that barrier for the first time. Sharapova lost to Graf 4-6 2-6 before losing in the doubles to Jelena Jankovic and Nicole Vaidisova 4-6 5-7, both in the semifinals. It was Sharapova's 6th semifinals, and she has a record of 1-5 (:o) Sharapova will play the last warm-up clay court event before Roland Garros in Rome.

Interview with Maria

Hi Maria, thanks for coming here.
Thanks for having me here it's always a pleasure.

So another loss in the semifinals, what are your thoughts?
Well, I mean, I can't be angry or unhappy about it. I mean, it's the last 4 so you expect it to get tough. Like, you can't win every tournament. Steffi was a great player and she got the better of me on the court so I congratulate her on that.

Clay is not your best surface, but you seem pretty comfortable on it.
No, you know, it's not my favourite, it's not my best, but I don't mind it.

Do you think you're a contender for the Roland Garros title?
Well, everyone is a contender, everyone has a chance to win it. If they're in the draw, there is a possibility you could win the title, so yeah, I am a contender. Why bother play if you don't have a chance to win.

Like as in, do you think you're a "favourite" for the title?
Erh, well that's kind of hard, I mean, like... it's your opinion, I can't judge myself. But the way I see it, there are a lot of great players out there, some are more comfortable than I am on the surface. But you can't count anyone out. You haven't lost until you've lost. But, like I said before, it's your opinion, so you tell me.

There have been a controversy with you and some other players with Dokic.
Yeh, I don't know what her problem is, I think she's mental, that's why she went to jail. But I don't know, she started attacking me first. So you know.. she can do what she wants. It's her life.

Back to a more positive note, you're a new top 3 player, are you happy with that?
Of course I'm happy, anyone would be. I mean, I was so happy to break into top 10 and then even happier to be top 5 and now top 3 it feels so amazing.

Are you aiming for number 2 now, or maybe even number 1?
Oh yeh, definitely, but you know, ahead me are some of the greatest players, Amelie Mauresmo and Justine Henin. It's going to be hard but I am going to try my best, give it my all, but I have to give them credit for getting there in the first place. The only way to go is up, you know, not just for me, but for everyone. Except of course Dokic, she's still going down () The only thing going up for her is her weight. (JOKE  :hearts: Uranium )

We wish you the best of luck in Rome and in Roland Garros.
Thank you!

Sharapova will be playing in Rome this week and is the number 2 seed behind Justine Henin, agian. Latest "Weekly Doodle"

In Rome

http://www.celebrityoftheyear.com/images/celebs/maria_sharapova.jpg

XOXOX
