Patch May 24th, 2008, 07:43 PM Preview
This is about the only time of the year where Australia dont have points to defend, so they will be looking to do good here. They meet Russia, who are eager to prove theyre not one surface wonders
*
*
*
Fifth seeds France had a decent Rebound Ace season last year. They will be looking to bulid on that against GB
*
*
*
Shahar Peer leads Israel into another season and will be hoping to climb the ranks this year. She opens against a qualifier.
*
*
*
Czech Republic had a dissapointing end to season 1 and will want to make amends in the RA season. They have a tough opponent in USA though and an upset is possible.
*
*
*
Fourth seeds Poland are riding on a carrer high at the moment. They will be the favourites against the Swedes.
*
*
*
Both Slovakia and Thailand didnt play this time last year. Both teams will be hoping to get some confidence from their first match of season 2
*
*
*
Sixth seeds South Africa played sparingly on RA last year, so this could be a chance for Petkovic to spring an upset.
*
*
*
Kimiko Date will be making her first apperance for Japan here and she will be hoping to do well in her countries first high tier rebound ace tournament. They face Belgium, who are consistent on this surface.

Patch May 24th, 2008, 07:43 PM Season 2 - Bonus Points
This season there will be a chance to collect bonus points in each tournament. You can win bonus points either by writing an article (worth 5 bonus pts) or beating a player who has more surface points than you (worth 3 bonus pts)
However, you will only be able to use these points at Grand Slams. You collect up as much points as you can in the weeks between Slams to use at the next Slam coming up. So all bonus points you make during Wks 1, 2 and 3 will be used to add on to your normal points at the Australian Open. The same will be done for the other three slams and the Olympics
Any Questions?
:wavey:
Bonus Points:
Israel - 15
Japan - 5
Germany - 5
France - 3
Australia - 3

German Andrea Petkovic won her first match of the new season today, defeating #6 South Africa's Lizzan Du Plessis 6-3,7-6(2) in 1 hour 34 Minutes. "I'm pleased with the way I played today, I stuck to my gameplan, and it worked for me! Lizzan is obviously a great player, but I was a little bit better today. She's going to want to win even more the next time we play, but I'll be ready! I play Kimiko(Date-Krumm) next, and it's gonna be tough, she tracks everything down, and hardly makes a mistkake! But I'll play my game, keep her moving, and try to come to net a bit!"

Patch May 31st, 2008, 03:43 PM Patch, it's not his fault the PM didn't go through tho
I know, but Its not mine either
I cant and wont redo the draw and start again, that is unfair on everyone else, Ive got points now and he will play next week (if he choses too)
Bottom line is I didnt receive points in the deadline so he was removed from the draw until next week, its noones fault this happened, its just unfortunate, should just move on from it now.
Tzar May 31st, 2008, 04:15 PM i retire from singles.
Tzar May 31st, 2008, 04:15 PM btw patch im running Birmingham this week so i highly recommend you to play Barcelona instead

Patch May 31st, 2008, 08:18 PM GBR/SUI added to doubles draw
dementievavenus May 31st, 2008, 08:24 PM I would like to request that Nathalie Dechy play for Belgium...if France does not mind...
Patch May 31st, 2008, 08:32 PM If you want a player to add to your country then (and this is how the Aussies got Dementieva) you must help out with running the game (i.e Zoli took time to post surface points and a few profiles) so If youd like Dechy or another player then you can help with either running mixed doubles, helping with the ranks, doing tournament reviews or anything else if you can think off. You dont have too though ;)
Poland have the choice of 'adopting' a player as theyre helping with doubles (though if theyre already on a squad a coach has to agree to it)
Patch May 31st, 2008, 10:24 PM QF Coming up...I havnt got enough time to do game to game scores tonight, so Itll just be simple pic scoring  sorry!

young_gunner913 Jun 1st, 2008, 02:00 AM Israel and Great Britain Seek Late Entry
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/fedcup.jpg
Team Israel poses for a picture holding up their country's flag.
Team Israel's head coach, Coach Spice, has requested that Anna Smashnova of Israel and Elena Baltacha of Great Britain recieve a wild card late entry into the doubles draw. The coaches of the two countries have yet to been able to get the chance to talk with one another about the team up but with the deadline of entries coming to a close, Coach Spice has taken the iniative to ask for the wild card.
"I feel that both of our players were wanting to play doubles and they should get the chance. Hopefully, they'll get the chance to." Coach Spice said at a press conference.
Smashnova, accompanied her head coach to the press conference and was asked about her involvement on the team for the year. Last year, Smashnova was hampered by a hamstring injury that prevented her from playing singles, but after she recovered, she returned to the team as a doubles specialist.
"I'm happy to say that this year, I'm going to be playing in a lot more tournaments. I'm feeling healthy and I'm really excited to play doubles here in Auckland." Smashova replied.
Team Israel also announced that they will be skipping play in Hobart to compete in a grass court tournament in Doha. Also, they announced their suprsie singles player: Anna Smashnova.
"Last season Shahar [Peer], took on a lot of the singles work and this season we're going to try to even out all the singles and doubles matches amongst our three players. Anna said that she would be interested in playing a lower tier event and so I signed us up for Doha. Shahar Peer will be playing doubles for the tournament as well." Coach Spice said.
"It will be the first time I've ever played singles in a tournament so it will be nice to see how I do. But first I'm going to concetrate on playing here in Auckland." Smashnova said.

young_gunner913 Jun 1st, 2008, 08:46 PM Israel and Great Britain Get Smashed
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/smash.jpg
Israel's Anna Smashnova returns a shot in her first round doubles match in Auckland, New Zealand.
Israel and Great Britain's doubles team made up of Anna Smashnova and Elena Baltacha were successful in recieving their late entry into the doubles draw but they failed to advance past the first doubles round. The Israeli/British duo fell to Meghan Shaughnessy and Clarisa Fernandez in straight sets: 6-4, 6-4.
"We played well for it being our first doubles match together." Smashnova said. We were trying to get used to one another's game and trying to fight past our opponents. It was a tricky match but I think we played a decent match and I'd definitely like to team up with Elena in the future."
The American/Argentine duo needed an hour and 13 minutes to finally take down Smashnova and Baltacha. It is unknown whether Israel and Great Britain well play together on grass in Doha, but head coach of Team Israel, Coach Spice, said Israel wouldn't rule out playing together again.
"Great Britain has good grass court players, so who knows, we might team up again in Doha. It hasn't been confirmed yet but it's a definite possibility. I think both of our players had fun teaming up together and I think it was a good partnership even though the outcome didn't come out as we hoped." Coach Spice said during a post match interview.
Team Israel will be focusing on their next tournament in Doha.

Kimiko Date-Krumm hits a backhand to Marta Domachowska
She may be 37 years old, but age has certainly been no barrier this week for Kimiko Date-Krumm, as on her first showing for Japan she has stormed into the final of the Auckland event, the first on the 2008 calendar.
Date, drafted in to replace Rika Fujiwara who left the team after Season 1, started off the week with a three set win over doubles partner Kim Clijsters-Lynch and coming through also in three sets against Andrea Petkovic. Marta Domachowska, a Pole over 10-years her junior, awaited for her for a place in the final, with the Polish team seeking revenge. In the last match of the first season, Ai Sugiyama came through to win the Season Ending Championships over the Polish team.
The first set was a close affair, with both players having opportunities to take the adva |
