TheBoiledEgg Nov 16th, 2001, 06:51 PM looking at the teams overall ...... its going to be very tough and its a great looking field.
Glad we got our best players here after what happened last year..... but no Dinara Safina ( she's also witdrawn from Mallorca 3/4 next 2 weeks) , must be injured

suprised to see Lenka back again for Slovakia and that makes them pretty tough.
Czech's have a very strong team again for this.
US back to defend their title ....
I expect these 4 teams to be top 4 seeds
Hungary , Argentina , Croatia , Sweden have got pretty strong #1 players
TheBoiledEgg Nov 16th, 2001, 06:54 PM Slovakia's #1 Dominika Nociarova probably won't get to play singles.
Lubomira and Lenka ...... ouch, could have chosen Hantuchova as well
the cat Nov 16th, 2001, 07:24 PM Can Ashley Harkleroad once again lead the Americans to victory in the Connelly Cup? I think so. But what has Ashley been doing since the U.S. Open? I don't think she has played any junior tournaments. Has she?
Randy H Nov 16th, 2001, 08:45 PM good luck to all the girls I support who will be competing here, and especially team Canada (nice to see Rene Simpson involved as the junior coach here), and of course Slovakia, hope they can do well here
TheBoiledEgg Nov 16th, 2001, 09:04 PM Ashley has hardly played since US Open , only 2 Challenger events with little success.
Czech's have got the #1 doubles team in the world.
Seedings once again be touch and go , and the country that gets Hungary who most likely will be 5th seed will be in danger.
Slovaks doing what we did in 1999 when Nadia Petrova came back and played as #2 singles player behind Lina.

tenn_ace Nov 17th, 2001, 05:04 AM anyhow, go Team Russia!!!
TheBoiledEgg Nov 17th, 2001, 09:53 AM Seeding will be done on combination of the two and so Russia should will be #1 seeds , others ?????
tenn_ace Nov 18th, 2001, 01:27 PM 1 RUSSIA 2
2 AUSTRIA 8
3 USA 9
4 CZECH REPUBLIC 10
5 SLOVAK REPUBLIC 11
6 MEXICO 14
7 CANADA 16
8 SWEDEN 17
9 CROATIA 17
10 BRAZIL 19
11 ARGENTINA 19
12 KOREA 24
13 HUNGARY 24
14 ALGERIA 26
15 URUGUAY 27
16 UZBEKISTAN 29
so, this is combined ranking... I don't belive that they wil seed Austria as #2. I think they will probably go with ITF ranking and will keep WTA one in mind.
Martian KC Nov 21st, 2001, 04:47 AM I'm glad Russia went with their older girls.
TheBoiledEgg Nov 21st, 2001, 10:31 AM We could have still played Lina and Elena B but no point. Galina Fokina as well
sartrista7 Nov 21st, 2001, 11:27 AM Who is Amber Liu? She seems to be being oushed forward quite a bit as a top US junior, with a wild card into the US Open and now a pick here. Not sure why though, I don't think her results have been that impressive, certainly not compared with players like Cory Ann Avants and Ally Baker.
Go Russia!
TheBoiledEgg Nov 21st, 2001, 01:12 PM Amber won the USTA U18 Champs a few weeks back.
danker Nov 21st, 2001, 02:32 PM Amber won the National Hardcourt Champs which gave her the wildcard. She thrashed everybody in that tournament including Ally Baker in the final conceding only 3 games.
I wish she'd play more pro tourneys.
Wally Nov 21st, 2001, 02:33 PM good luck korea... pffft... they don't need it... don't? shouldn't... might... WILL need all the luck they can get! i hope they go far!! i HOPE!
srg1 Nov 21st, 2001, 04:43 PM Amber Liu's results have been very inconsistent and I believe she hasn't done very well in tournaments with lots of International players. I think Ally Baker and Corrie Avants are better pro prospects.
matthias Nov 22nd, 2001, 07:17 PM no german team
good luck algeria and uzbekistan!
