Hey everybody its Daniela! I will be the WSC blogger this week and I'm quite excited. I'm happy to be on hard courts, the whole plexicussion rebound ace thing isnt working for me. This is a tier 2 so I have to kick butt. My two worst surfaces are the first two seasons of tghe year, so I still think I'm doing great. Top 5 with those surfaces, those horrid horrid clay and rebound ace courts, is a feat fotr me. I'll be playing with Jelena Dokic. On court shes a complete diva and I love playing with her!! On the plaane to get here I say next to a fat guy, he fell asleep on me and I punched him in the face. Im off to settle the lawsuit(I suied him).

Sharapova Arrives in Sweden

World number 6, Maria Sharapova has arrived in Sweden this morning and recieved a warm welcome. There were about 300 people in the airport, just waiting to see her. Some of which, have been waiting for 3 hours before she came. She signed a few signatures and she recieved a few stuff, and left the airport to go to her hotel, and she went to the player's press conference.

Sharapova will be playing her first tournament on hard court here and the tournament will begin on Tuesday or Wednesday, the draw is yet to be released.

The Interview

Welcome to Sweden, Maria.
Thank you, yeh, it's a beautiful country, I love visiting Sweden, it's one of my favourite countries.

What's good about Sweden?
You have some of the best people, the nicest. But the tennis fans, they are great too you know, they respect both players. Rarely it's like that, in other countries, especially when you play against someone from their country, they jeer you, and, I mean as sports men and sports women, we're used to that. But you know, it's not nice, I mean, you feel bad.

It's your first hardcourt tournament, can you tell us about that.
About what? How I'm feeling about it?

Yeh
Well, I'm very excited, it's my favourite surface and it's great, I love hard court, but this one is my first tournament on the surface and a lot of people love this surface. So hopefully, I can prove myself a top player.

Amelie Mauresmo is also here, do you think once her beloved Rebound Ace season is gone, she is not going to be a threat anymore? Is she going to drop in the rankings?
Well, no you know, you can't count anyone out of anything. I mean, Nicole Vaidisova hates the Rebound Ace surface, but she managed to make it into the semis of the grandslam no less, losing to another great player, Justine. No, you can't count anyone out of anything. I give Amelie credit for what she did, so dominant. She proved herself worthy of her number 1 ranking and we'll just have to see how we go. But you know, her coach has been working very well with her and helped her game a lot. I've been eyeing her coach, he's one BIG hunk ;) :lol: just joking. We all like to tease him about his looks. :p

I saw you got a few stuff from your fans at the airport. Can you tell us what they are?
:lol: haha yeah. I got flower, teddy bears, someone even gave me their phone number and asked me to call them.

Well, I guess you're waiting for the draw to come out, you will most likely get a fairly low ranked player, so what are your thoughts on it?
Well, it doesn't matter who I play against, you can't underestimate anyone. EVER. You never know what they can do, but you know.. I just have to take care of my side of the net and I'll be fine.

I came to Sweden a bit early this year mainly becuase I needed some rest and relaxation. So I got my rest and immediatly visited all the awesome places in Slokholm. My walkover also gave me more time to hit the shops as well as the courts. I went to all of the fancyest places including the brand new VERSACE STORE!!! That alsong with the trip to the worlds largerst Ikea :drool: was the highligh of two days ago. Today I plan to play on these Hard Courts so I can reall feel the courts and get aquainted with them. Toorrow I face Li Na. Shes already beaten many opponents on her career but I feel like I have an advantage. See you Dani.

Sharapova Serves her way to Quarters

Maria Sharapova has made it to the Quarterfinals after defeating fellow Russian, Elena Vesnina in 3 tough sets. The first set, was full of errors from both players, and it was not all that pleasing to watch. But it was Vesnina who stepped it up in the end, winning 4 games in a row, coming from 2-3 down to take the first set 6-3.


In the second set, Vesnina continued her form and the momentum was with her as she went 2 breaks up and led 4-0. An angry Sharapova, started playing more aggresively, on serve and on return, her serve and return was too good for Vesnina as Sharapova fought her way back to 4-4 and both held serve until 5-5. Sharapova then stepped up another gear and took the next 2 games and level the match at 1 set all, when she hit an ace outwide.

The third set, was a tough battle, the crowd was getting what their money was worth for, with Sharapova's decibel getting higher, and Vesnina... fighting for every point. They both held serve until 4-4, when Vesnina broke Sharapova's serve to love and had 40-15 and gave her 2 match points. Sharapova fought both of them and showed her real mental toughness. She never lost a point after that, winning the match 3-6 7-5 7-5. The crowd was on their feet, cheering for both players for showing a great display.

Australian Open Champion Amelie Mauresmo beat Jelena Dokic 6-4 7-6 in opener at the Nordea Nordic Light Open, in Stockholm, Sweden. Mauresmo was made to work hard by Dokic, who was No3 in the world some weeks ago. Dokic, who dropped her serve in the eleventh game of the second set, saved one match point after she forced Mauresmo to hit a forehand into the net, and broke back in the following game, to snatch a tie-breaker. But the world number 1 finally completed the match on her next attempt when Dokic sailed her forehand long at 6-4 in the tie-breaker. In next round, she is facing Russia's Dinara Safina, who wins by walk over in the first round. It will be their third meeting in three weeks, Mauresmo winning both previous encounters at Moorilla and Melbourne in straight sets.

"It was really tight. Jelena was receiving well and I didn't feel like some of my first serves went through," Mauresmo said. "So I was under pressure. But It was a good match for me to get through," added Mauresmo, who had won 4 titles this year, all on rebound ace. "I feel pretty good and believe I'm getting better with each tournament. So hopefully I can peak here like I did last week. But it won't be easy against Dinara, cause she's playing on her best surface I think. Wish me good luck!"

Today I played my quarter final match against Li Na. Na is very sweet.
i dont know if its genuine or if shes just been programmed to be, but I enjoyed playing our match. I went in fairly comfortable because I knew Li was not really liking the courts. My ground strokes were very very hot in the first set. I didnt need to go to net as often as
i expected I would. I was up 5-1 but then after the change over took a while to bounce back up and thake the set 6-3. The next set felt luike deja vu and after a race to get out to 5-2 I choked a bit and won 6-3. It was fun and Im ready to relax. I have a big match tomorrow.

Maria Sharapova has won her 2nd round match against French Tatiana Golovin to move into the Quarterfinals and set up a fourth meeting with world's number 1, Amelie Mauresmo.

Sharapova was trailing in the first set 0-2 and 1-3, but level the match 3-3 and it was on serve until 5-4 Sharapova, where Sharapova made the crucial break. Golovin was up 40-0 but Sharapova came fighting back in the game. Hitting winners from, backhand, forehand and volleys. Sharapova's mental toughness was too much for the French as she broke the Golovin serve to take the set, 6-4.

In the second set, there were 4 breaks of serve in the beginning, and it was 2-2 until Sharapova broke the jinx and held her serve to love. But Golovin couldn't follow Sharapova and dropped her serve for the fourth time in a row. But Golovin turned it around from there to take the next two games and level at 4-4 but Sharapova's power was too much for Golovin as she held her serve and broke Golovin's both to love and took the game, set and match, when she hit a backhand-down-the-line winner.

Sharapova will now meet the world's number 1 and another French, Amelie Mauresmo for the fourth time.

Top seed Mauresmo reached the last four with a 7-6, 7-6 win over Russian Dinara Safina in Friday's quarter-finals. Since the beginning of the year, Mauresmo has never lost before the quarter-finals in 7 tournaments played.

In winning her 16th straight game in a row, Mauresmo overcame her second serious test of the Nordic Light Open week against Safina, after Dokic in the first round. She had played Safina twice before, and each time she lost less than 6 games in the match. This time, she lost 6 games in each set, in a match where Safina matched the champion blow for blow in almost 2 hours.

"Finishing off the match gave me shivers down my body," said Mauresmo. "Dinara has a big serve and a big game and she's always dangerous. There's no comparison with our previous meetings, she has improved a lot. But I got through and I was ready for every shot," she added. "I am just feeling so great. I am healthy and able to play out here in front of my Swedish fans. I think I have the confidence now, which is huge. Tomorrow I expect a big match against Maria."

Mauresmo will now meet Russian third seed Maria Sharapova for a place in the final in Stockholm. They have met only once before, last week at the Australian Open, already in the semi-finals.

Ive drawn MOMO once, but it was on RA so she had a 30 point advantage and I had no strategy!!

Stosur Eases Past Harkleroad

Australian world number two Samantha Stosur has cruised into the semifinals of the Nordeo Nordic Light Open in Sweden today. Playing on her beloved hard courts, Stosur dispatched the American 6-2 6-2 in a quick, high-quality match.

"I felt very good today. I knew not to underestimate Harkleroad on this surface as she plays very well on hard... I think I played very smart today; played to her weaknesses and yeah, I'm just really happy with the win."

She will next face Slovakian fourth seed Daniela Hantuchova after she herself won her quarterfinal in straight sets. The two players have met once before, at Indian Wells where Stosur won in straight sets on her way to the title.

"Dani is going to be tough tomorrow. She's a great player and loves playing on this surface, just like myself. We've both had great weeks so far with some really good wins... Hopefully I can go out there tomorrow and just play my own game and hopefully move into the final."

Stockholm, Sweden - Revenge was on mind for Russian Maria Kirilenko during her first round match at this week Nordea Nordic Light Open where Kirilenko played good friend Ashley Harkleroad. After losing in straight sets in Indian Wells, Kirilenko was pumped but Harkleroad just edged out the Russian 6-4 7-6. With many long service games, Ashley's lobs proved too much for Kirilenko, winning the key points setting up a break of serve. Kirilenko couldn’t break back as Harkleroad raced away to win the first set 6-4 in just over three quarters of an hour. A rejuvenated Kirilenko broke the Harkleroad serve straight away but was broken back by some errorless tennis by the American. Both girls serves were too strong as Kirilenko saved a match point at 6-5 30-40 forcing a second set tiebreaker. Harkleroad proved too strong in the end winning the tiebreaker in emphatic fashion and booking her place into the quarterfinals and a showdown with Kirilenko's doubles partner Samantha Stosur.

After the match Kirilenko said, "I played well out there but Ash was just too strong on the key points." "I hope Sam and I can do well in the doubles tournament, maybe string together a few wins." When asked about her schedule Kirilenko said, "I play all clay tournaments up to Roland Garros." "I'm off to Charleston next to play on the green clay, and then I have Rome, Berlin and Roland Garros." "The more tournaments I play the better preparation for Roland Garros." When asked about her upcoming photo shoot she said, "Stella's asked me to do one in Charleston, so when I there I'll do it." I love photo shoots, they're lots of fun!"
