BWLH May 21st, 2008, 07:33 PM Kuznetsova Cruises Into Quarterfinal
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/614/XSP105042207_1024x768.jpg
Russian player Svetlana Kuznetsova finally wins her first official match on tour by defeating countrywoman Nadia Petrova 6-2,6-3 in her first round match that ended just over and an hour.Kuznetsova failed to win a single match during the rebound ace season in which she was on a 5 match losing streak.
"I feel pretty good.Clay is my favourite surface and I really want to win here.I just stay strong on every point and let Nadia make the mistake and I'm pretty glad with the result.I hope I'm able to keep up this form."said the Russian who has dropped to #10 in the latest singles ranking.
She will next meet fourth seed Elena Dementieva, whom she won Australian Open doubles with,in the quarterfinal. She commented:"Well,I was really upset with the draw definitely when I see I'll most likely to play against her in the next round.I was rolling my eyes towards the tour director when I saw him this morning in the cafeteria. But what could I do,I just hope I'll be able to play well and win again."
With her rankings dropping to career low #10,she said,"I know I deserve better than this rank to be honest.I had a really bad rebound ace season and with clay events coming up for the next four weeks,I hope I'll be able to gain as much points as possible and improve my rankings. My aim is to be top 5 after Roland Garros and win a clay title.Failing to do both might lead me making a decision that whether I'll be staying."
She will also play doubles with Justine Henin of Belgium.Kuznetsova have planned to play with Dementieva at first but her partner was late and instead Kuznetsova will partner with the Belgian temporary in this event.

Justine Practicing On The Green Clay
Justine is the number 1 seed this week in Amelia Island, and is hoping to get her clay season off to a flying start, she received a bye in the firt round and will face off with Greeces Eleni Danilidou for a semifinal spot. After a very successful Rebound Ace season Justine will be looking to carry her momentum on to her favourite surface, however there are quite a few other players who love to play on clay and these players will be a huge challenge for Henin who is still seeking her first singles title of the season.
Justine is teamed up with Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova for the doubles even and hopefully they will be successful and make a deep run together.
J. Henin Pre-Match Interview
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/510/U1918P6T12D3662504F44DT20080514231322.jpg
Q: Justine, you haven't played Eleni before, how do you feel about the match-up?
JH: Well she is a PC player I think, and I'm not really sure if she has even had a win on tour, I didn't see her name in the rankings. I just need to be focused on my side of the court and If I play my game I shouldn't have too much trouble.
Q: Is there any added pressure being the #1 seed at this tournament?
JH: Of course there is more pressure, people expect the top seed to do well and win the tournament, However I respect all my opponents and I am definitely not expecting any easy wins, my potential semifinal is going to very tough.
Q: You mention your potential semifinal match up, what are you're thoughts on that?
JH: Well Elena and Sveta are both great claycourters and are serious contenders for the title, for sure, whoever wins their match is sure goiong to give me a lot of trouble.
Q: Any preference between the two?
JH: Well I'd say maybe I'm a little more worried about Elena, she has beaten me before and She is a really good player especially on the clay, Sveta has had some inconsistent results of late but I think on the Clay she is a big threat. Anyway enough of this semifinal talk I have not even played my Quarter final yet.
Q: Goodluck for the rest of the tournament Justine
JH: Thankyou very much

GracefulVenus May 22nd, 2008, 06:37 PM What's the tiebreak score at the end though?
I don't have a table for the tie-breaks and it's really no point in this game since the results are random. But you won by less that 10 points if that helps.

BWLH May 22nd, 2008, 07:16 PM Kuznetsova Advances Into Semifinals
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/614/fullj_getty-tennis-fed-cup-rus-spa_9_45_51_am.jpg
#10 ranked Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova continues her good form on clay as she dismisses her Australian Open doubles partner Elena Dementieva, the third seed,in straight sets 7-6(5),6-1.This is only her second official win on the tour.
The first set was pretty close and both players traded serve a couple of times and it eventually needed a tiebreak to decide the winner of the first set.Kuznetsova played a volley shot that caught her countrywoman by surprise and ended up winning the tiebreak 7 points to 5.The second set was rather one-sided as Dementieva double faulted 9 times in the set and only successfully held her service game once to give Kuznetsova a pretty comfortable victory at the end with a backhand crosscourt winner.
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/119/296545128_a9017c29fc.jpg?v=0
"Well,I think the first set tiebreak was the key point of the match.Elena played pretty well in the first set as well as I am.I could have won it a little easier after the first break of her serve but she fought back and I almost lost it at the end.Luckily I won the tiebreak and she somehow lost her confidence and her serve fell apart.I just took my opportunity to attack her second serve most of the time."said the Russian in the interview after the match.
She will face #1 seed and Australian Open runner-up Justine Henin in the semifinals. The Belgian crushed Eleni Daniilidou of Greece to reach the semifinals.Kuznetsova said:"Well, what can I say? This is just a bad draw. Most of the best clay courters are in the same half.Anyway, she is playing incredibly at the moment. She's in a great form, reaching the last 2 finals in one of her rather poor surfaces,so it will be a great challenge for me.I just hope my game will trouble her and we'll see how it goes.Oh,hopefully we'll win in doubles too."

Justine During Her Demolition Of Greeces Eleni Danilidou
As The top seed this week Justine was the heavy favourite going into her quarterfinal match-up with PC Danilidou, However not even Justine herself expected such a convincing win. It was not a very long affair with the belgian only needing 41 minutes to dispose of Danilidou in Straight Sets. The first set began with Henin holding to love with an ace, she then proceeded to break her opponent in the next game and was soon at a 3-0 lead. Danilidou managed to hold onto her serve in the 4th and 6th games but she made no impression on the solid henin delivery and justine broke for the set to take it 6-2. In the second set justine began to turn up the aggression particularly on her return of serve, she raced through the remaining six game to take the set and match 6-2 6-0 with a glorious lob winner.
Henin is next to play against her doubles partner for this week Svetlana Kuznetsova, both players love to play on the clay so it should be a very tough battle. The two will have to remain friendly no matter which way their singles match goes as they will have to team up for the doubles soon after.
J. Henin Post Match Interview
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/510/U1918P6T12D3662504F44DT20080514231322.jpg
Q: Justine a very solid performance, do you think you could have done any better?
JH: Well I am very pleased with this win, the score might have looked very easy but I did really have to stay focused and be aggressive I knew if I gave her a chance she could cause me some problems. Of course there is still room for improvement in my game, this was not the toughest opponent I need to sustain this level against better competition.
Q: Svetlana played very well to upset 4th seed Dementieva, are you worried about this match?
JH: Well of course it will be very tough, she really loves the clay courts, and you never really know what you will get with sveta Sometimes she is so good and other times she isn't so good, I think its a little bit of a mental problem, I really hope I can play at a good level and I will stay focused on my side of the court and hopefully I will do enough.
Q: What about the other semi, what are your thoughts on that one?
JH: Well Steffi has definitely shown she has the game for clay, she won in Estoril, but I think the way nicole did in australia with so little points, she must be the favourite here she is on her best surface and I think she is very dangerous here.
Q: Do you think your match with Svetlana will affect how you work together in the doubles?
JH: We are both adults we respect each other a lot, we both want to win the singles match, and whoever wins will be the better player on the day, I think we should be able to put that aside when we step on the doubles court and play together well as a team.
Q: Goodluck in the semis
JH: Thankyou, I hope I can give lots of emotions to the crowd

I think this match will come down to whether the right games come out in the right order for each player. (Kind of obvious, but someone who gets the system will know my implication.)
Good luck Justine:yeah:
its going to be a close one
I think it'll be 3 sets, and there will be a few 7-5 or 7-6 sets

Justine Defeated her doubles partner this week, Svetlana Kuznetsova in a tough battle
Justine Henin has moved through to final of her first clay tournament of the season after a tough win over Svetlana Kuznetsova. The two are playing doubles together this week and both love to play on the clay, however it was Justine who came out on top after two tight sets. The first set began with serve until 2-3 this is when Kuznetsova managed to break Justines serve using her big forehand returns which put Henin immediately on defense. Justine fought back in the next game witha little help from a Kuznetsova double fault and it was soon all level at 4-4. The Breaks of serve continued and Justine was serving to stay in the set at 4-5, she pulled off a few service winners and levelled again at 5-5. Sveta continued her magnificent returning and broke again, Henin fought off a set point at 5-6 to push it to the tiebreak. Svetlana seemed to lose some intensity in the breaker, most proabably due to nerves, Justine quickly capitalised on this opportunity to race ahead 6-3, she then closed out the first set with a fabulous Forehand down the line winner followed by a scream of "Allez!". The second set was also very closely contested, neither player could get a lead over the other despite trading service breaks several times, again it reached 4-4 and Justine started coming forwards to net to try to unsettle Kuznetsova, It seemed to work because a few sloppy errors from Svetlana and Justine was soon at 5-4 with match point, she sealed the match witha trademark backhand down the line winner, The final score 7-6 6-4 in 1hr and 40 mins.
Justine will now contest her third final of the season, she lost the previous two on Rebound Ace both to Amelie Mauresmo, who was undefeated on the surface. This one being on clay certainly bodes well for Henin but her opponent Steffi Graf already won a clay title in Estoril earlier in the season. it will most definitely be a very tough match that could go either way.
J. Henin Post Match Interview

Q: A very tough match, what do you think made the difference in this one?
JH: I think I was able to keep my focus very well today, she was playing unbelievably well at times, but I felt she got a little tight towards the end of both sets, and I tried to take advantage of that, i thhink I did quite well.
Q: Through to your thrid final this season, do you think ahve a better chance in this one?
JH: Well my last two finals (Sydney, Melbourne) were against Amelie on Rebound Ace which is really an impossible task. I think I have more of a chance on the clay it is my favourite surface, however Steffi is a great champion and has already one Estoril on clay so she definitely knows how to get the job done.
Q: You've played Steffi before, a few weeks back on Rebound Ace, do you think the surface will make this match different?
JH: I was playing quite well on the rebound ace and that was a very tight match, but clay is a different surface, I'm sure steffi has been working hard on her clay game and I'm sure it will be another tough one. I would very much like to win my first singles title here but I know it will not be an easy task.
Q: What do you think is Steffi's biggest weapon on the court?
JH: I think her mentality is her greatest strength, she is so mentally tough, she will not give me the opportunities that sveta gave me today, so I'll need to be on top of my game for sure. Her slcie backhand is also a very effective shot and her forehand is devastating at times. I will try to keep focused on my game and what I must do, hopefully I can be good ebnough on the day.
Q: Goodluck in the final
JH: Thankyou, I hope I can win my first singles title here

Justine Easily Accounted For Steffi Graf To Win Her First Title
Justine Henin has claimed her first title on the WSC title in her third attempt, she easily accounted for German Steffi Graf who had an impressive week. The match started out well for Henin she used her strong groundstrokes to race to a 3-1 lead. Graf pulled back to 3-2 but it didn't deter Justine who seemed in no mood for messing around, she reeled off three games in a row and sealed the set with an ace. The second set continued on in similar fashion justine completely dominating her opponent to again race to a 3-1 lead, a very long game ensued with Steffi having several chances to win another game however the pressure from Justine was too much and Justine steamrolled to victory 6-2 6-1 in just 53 minutes. This was an impressive victory for Justine has Steffi was the only player to have previously won a title on clay.
In the doubles event Justine was teamed up With Svetlana Kuznetsova and they had a successful week together. In the semifinals they dug deep to defeat Obziler/Petrova 5-7 6-3 6-4. in the final they took on the second seeded pairing of Dementieva/Vaidisova, once again they were too strong for their opposition racing to a 5-1 lead. however Dementieva/Vaidisova pulled out some of their best tennis to bring it back to 5-3, a strong service game form Kuznetsova saw the the team take the first set 6-3. the second set was a real battle both teams struggling to hold onto serve. Henin/Kuznetsova were soon down 4-5, but they dug deep to eventually take the match to a tiebreak which they one with a fair amount of ease.
A fantastic week overall for henin claiming both the singles and doubles titles, and hopefully establishing herself as one of the claycourters to watch out for, In winning this title she also climbed one spot to number 2 in the rankings barely ahaed of Australian Sam Stosur.

Q: Congratulations on your first Title, Did you expect to win so easily?
JH: Thanyou so much, it is a great feeling to finally win one of my finals, you know it was defninteyl not as easy as the score suggests. I think I really stayed focused and kept being aggressive and I really didn't give Steffi a chance to play her game, she had some chances but she wasn't able to take them on the day.
Q: Congratulations on winning the doubles also
JH: Yes it is a great schievement for me to win both of the titles, i must give a lot of credit to Sveta she played some unbelievable tennis, she pretty much carried me to the title.
Q: You're ranked number 2 now, how does that feel?
JH: Well defnitely its great, but I am only just barely ahead fo Sam Stosur so it is good, it goves a lot of motivation to keep doing well knowing that she is so close behind me.
Q: Do you feel more confident heading into your next clay events now?
JH: Winning this title will geve me confidence, for sure. I know if i play my game I am one of the best claycourters on tour, there are many players who do not like this surface much, so I must take advantage of this part of the season as the grass one I don't expect to do well. I really feel like my time to make an impact is now
Q: Congtaulations again and goodluck for your clay season
JH: Thankyou, I am so happy to win here
