The Kaz May 14th, 2008, 02:35 PM Good Choice Casey :yeah:
ChrisCHorse May 14th, 2008, 03:59 PM Monica Niculescu is on this list and also on the list for the 75k ITF in Rome. All I can say is please please play here Monica. The more grasscourt preparation you get the better. You have such a great game for grass. I want to see you at your best and kicking ass at Wimbledon. Please play here not Rome.
Gigi. May 14th, 2008, 04:07 PM ^ She won't play anywhere this week, she will be in RG 2nd week. :hearts:
ChrisCHorse May 14th, 2008, 04:17 PM ^ She won't play anywhere this week, she will be in RG 2nd week. :hearts:

-sugi- May 14th, 2008, 04:42 PM I just updated the first post.

Go Casey!!
No Jess Moore
azza May 15th, 2008, 08:28 AM Alicia shud be here.
~Eclipsed~ May 15th, 2008, 08:46 AM So glad this tourney is a $50k this year! But with how strong of a field it attracts, it could definitely move up to a $75 or even $100k event.
Brett. May 15th, 2008, 08:49 AM I thought Jarmila Gajdosova is playing for Australia
~Eclipsed~ May 15th, 2008, 08:53 AM I thought Jarmila Gajdosova is playing for Australia
Don't worry she'll become Australian again when it rolls around next year.
NZ tennis fan May 15th, 2008, 09:11 AM looks like marina is playing here, i hope she can do well!
Highlandman May 15th, 2008, 10:17 AM Great list :yeah: Kerber in ? I don't think she is going to play here after doing very well in Birmingham last year.

Highlandman May 15th, 2008, 03:16 PM I wish Brenda could defend her title here , however I have big doubts on it :o The field is stronger & she became not stronger in last year
If she does something like Quarters she can be pretty content I think. Maybe even Semis, I don't expect the win - also cause she has to play the Qualies probably.
JustDoIt May 15th, 2008, 03:24 PM Stevenson is at the alt list, which means she is playing Wimbledon :yeah:
Highlandman May 15th, 2008, 03:40 PM Stevenson is at the alt list, which means she is playing Wimbledon :yeah:
If her 227-Ranking is enough probably, I suppose she will. However in Wimbledon this ranking should be enough for Qualies.

Hana Sromova has withdrawn from Quallies and Stefanie Vogele is now in. :D
CrossCourt~Rally May 15th, 2008, 11:05 PM I wish Brenda could defend her title here , however I have big doubts on it :o The field is stronger & she became not stronger in last year

Oxana Lyubtsova withdrew from the qually and is replaced by Fedossova.
In Fedossov'a form there probably won't be any problem for her to trave lfrom RG to Surbition to the right time
-sugi- May 18th, 2008, 01:27 PM Another update.
Yung-Jan Chan out of main draw and Rolle now in.

Inside Photos May 29th, 2008, 03:15 PM Interesting list, thanks for the continued updates. I have just received my accreditation and I will be photographing this event for http://www.inside-tennis.net
It’s likely that I will be attending the whole week, and I must admit I haven't been following the WTA side that closely recently. Therefore, I'm open to suggestions and requests of players that you want photos of? I will also be at the qualifying event too.
Must say, I’m looking forward to this event. The ATP list has some great young players too.

paul_masterton May 30th, 2008, 03:47 PM Kops-Jones and Dellacqua will be witdrawn as they will still be competing at Roland Garros at 6pm UK time. Even if Casey loses today, her doubles (as with Rachel's) is not scheduled until tomorrow.
Vania King or Severine Bremond will also be withdrawn depending which of them wins their doubles match today, Tanasugarn looks like losing her match so she can make it on time and will surely start as favourite
Juarito May 30th, 2008, 05:08 PM But when the game starts? if they play tomorrow, they could be able to play this on monday or tuesday, it is possible?
Meelis May 30th, 2008, 05:14 PM But when the game starts? if they play tomorrow, they could be able to play this on monday or tuesday, it is possible?
This is the rule:
A player is allowed to play in an ITF Women’s Circuit tournament the
second week of a Grand Slam, Indian Wells, or Miami provided the player
has been eliminated from the Singles and Doubles of the above-mentioned
tournament. The player is not allowed to withdraw from these tournaments to
play the ITF Women’s Circuit event. If the player is still competing in the
above-mentioned tournament at the time the Qualifying Sign-in closes for the
ITF Women’s Circuit tournament, the player will be automatically
withdrawn.
Qualifying Sign-in today.
Inside Photos May 30th, 2008, 05:47 PM Rika Fujiwara please :D She is playing quallies I think, unless she gets in the main draw. She is really friendly as well, if that helps.
She is in Surbiton already, I read on her blog.
I will try my best to fulfill the requests for you all. I had a major scare today, my main camera went down. Huge disaster in which the sensor has been scratched and is now useless, and the replacement cost for the sensor is more than the camera cost me. Anyway, I should hopefully get some nice shots with the secondary camera (D70).
PS Does anyone know when the OOP for tomorrow will be out?

Farina Elia Fan May 31st, 2008, 07:58 PM Anna Smith is through to the final round of qualifying at The Surbiton Trophy after a tough three set victory over sixth seed Sarah Borwell.
The Surbiton Trophy, the first of a series of grass court tournaments in the run up to The Championships, Wimbledon, is a $50,000 men's and women's event.
Smith, who trains at the Sutton Tennis Academy, had a tough first round match against Elizabeth Thomas, needing three sets to beat the Lancastrian.
Her second match of the day was equally tough with Smith coming from a set down to defeat Borwell 3-6 7-6(3) 6-4 to set up a clash with second seed Jarmila Gajdosova.
Naomi Broady is the second player through to Sunday's final qualifying round courtesy of a 6-4 7-5 victory over Stefania Boffa.
In other matches Jocelyn Rae won her first match of the day against Georgina Bastick but was forced to withdraw from her second round match against Alexandra Stevenson with a back injury. Fellow junior Fed Cup team member Katharina Brown was also forced to retire during her second round match.

Betina played the qualifying tournament for Wimbledon last year, quallies for Wimbledon juniors in 2004 and Roehampton in the same year. Reached the second round in doubles both times.
And you just can't be bad on grass when you, unlike most girls in the Tour, actually have a serve you can rely on.
WIMBY Jun 2nd, 2008, 09:58 PM Good luck Melanie :)
Naomi C

Indeed this is very surprising and strange, they must be doing this from a predicted forecast and also the current weather there. After yesterday, I was questioning whether to make the trip today. I ended up not going as I wanted to watch RG on TV too, and wondered if it would be a washout at Surbiton. Seems I made the decision correct, as I would have been really annoyed if I had travelled there from Eastbourne!
Yesterday the rain wasn't even that bad, and they called play off and probably 30 mins later they called play off for the day. I was just about to leave anyway, and a few minutes later it was started raining  It would seem it was the right decision though, as apparently it was raining early evening too.
Heard talk of the qualies being played indoors a few days ago, and it seems they are doing that now. Hope the weather doesn't make the maindraw be played indoors too. I imagine even as a photographer I wouldn't be allowed in there.
TheBoiledEgg Jun 3rd, 2008, 01:19 PM wash out :o :o
rain should have cleared in a little bit
they'll probably make them play 1st rd indoors to get it started
Inside Photos Jun 3rd, 2008, 02:07 PM wash out :o :o

Got a reply from the officer at Surbiton, as I was worried this would happen too. Don't want to go to Roehampton at all, but it seems I would be able to go if there is a total washout for the next few days.
"There is room for photographers at the NTC however we're hoping to get back on the grass tomorrow... Weather permitting."
Jah Rastafari Jun 3rd, 2008, 03:06 PM I send a question to a poster in MTF asking about Jozami match an here it is:
"Jozami did look quite handy on the grass though and looked comfortable on it so she could win a few matches in the grass season. I think she served and volleyed a bit in the couple of games I saw which was encouraging, and had some nice touch at the net."
drgray Jun 3rd, 2008, 03:45 PM why is Morita playing only doubles?
is she playing qualies somewhere else in singles?
won't she be doing qualies for DFS classic coming up soon?
Sonic The Hedgehog Jun 3rd, 2008, 04:48 PM Hmmm maybe I'll head on down there for a day if there'll be a big juicy backlog of matches for me to watch...
paul_masterton Jun 3rd, 2008, 07:21 PM all matches are being played tomorrow on outdoor acrylic at the NTC in Roehampton :o
spiceboy Jun 3rd, 2008, 07:38 PM Varvara
Varvara has been removed from Birmingham qualy list and is playing Barcelona...wtf she was doing here instead of going to Rome? :tape: :help:
AyumiMorita Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:06 PM won't she be doing qualies for DFS classic coming up soon?
that is what i thought
but apparently she was in the main draw
Inside Photos Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:24 PM Press release confirms that the tournament will be played at the Roehampton centre:
With better weather forecasted for Wednesday, the mens and womens first round main draws will both get under way. However, due to the volume of rain in Surbiton over the last couple of days, play is scheduled to take place at the National Tennis Centre once again with a combination of indoor and outdoor courts available.
Unsure if spectators are allowed, but I will be going as I have recieved notification that there is room for photographers there.
konijntje_00 Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:25 PM all matches are being played tomorrow on outdoor acrylic at the NTC in Roehampton :o
so what does that mean?
is that still on grass? Are those the courts normally used for the surbiton trophy or did they move the event now?
And if they move it to indoors ... on what surface will that be?
paul_masterton Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:30 PM is just normal outdoor hardcourt surface, like the US Open :)
indoors will be indoor hard
LucasArg Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:34 PM Best of luck Betina Jozami!! :wavey:
TheBoiledEgg Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:41 PM why they moving it outdoors now
weather is pretty good now for rest of week
did the rain ruin the courts that much :o
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2346
auntie janie Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:41 PM Good luck, Betina! You show 'em! :rocker2:
JAMESYBABY! Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:46 PM the rain must of done something to the courts otherwise they would play there,, i think maybe in the keothavong match tht the hard will favor more keothavong than amanda.
paul_masterton Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:49 PM the surbiton courts don't have covers (court a and b do - but they're not very good) so it'll take a while for them to dry out and be playable
TheBoiledEgg Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:49 PM rather pointless tourn then isnt it
players might as well as tank and get to Birmingham for some proper grass courts practice
Southern softies cant get anything right, just take away tourns from rest of country.
JAMESYBABY! Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:52 PM as if they dont have covers,, considering british weather :tape:
Inside Photos Jun 3rd, 2008, 08:56 PM the surbiton courts don't have covers (court a and b do - but they're not very good) so it'll take a while for them to dry out and be playable
Yes thats the reasoning behind it, lack of covers. And from what I heard on other forums, the covers aren't that great for the main courts.
Will try and find out if they will be switching back to Surbiton. What do you think will happen? Change back after a round, or continue using the indoor/outdoor courts even if the weather is good?
TheBoiledEgg Jun 3rd, 2008, 09:02 PM 2006 when Court 1 was ruined at Birmingham in qualies, they couldnt use that court all tourn.
Seb.F Jun 3rd, 2008, 10:04 PM I'm in Surbiton...Today on courts quite sad look

kittyking Jun 4th, 2008, 12:31 AM In Auckland there is often rain delays but they moved some action from Outdoor Rebound Ace to Indoor Rebound Ace. That's fine, but changing from Outdoor Grass to Indoor American Hardcourt WTF!!!
