Pdm1987 Jun 4th, 2008, 11:48 AM they will play on outdoor acrylic in NTC
what i don't understand is if it's being played on outdoor acrylic, why can't it be played on outdoor grass? May as well just cancel it cos it's pointless if it's not been played on grass.
Keep Going Mandy!!! :)
Pdm1987 Jun 4th, 2008, 02:06 PM this has not long been posted on the GBTennisgirls message board

*hingis_forever* Jun 5th, 2008, 02:07 AM From britishtennis.net
Keovathavong vs. Elliott what a disappointment this was as Elliott was shocking today. She came into the match a set up, but didnt win a game today, and is hard to fathom how she was leading. Anne did play well, but she wouldnt have needed to as Elliott couldnt hit 3 balls in a row in the court
Stoop vs. Fitzpatrick possibly the worst match of the day (barring a truly horrible match between Kulikova and Yuan were both players pushed the ball into the middle of the court and had long 20 shot rallies where the hit slowly to each other before one of them missed.... for every single point) as both players made far too many errors and 80% of points must have finished with an unforced error. Both players tried to attack, but just couldnt do so well and just made an error when they tried.
Fitzpatrick saved a match point at 4-5 in the second, but with a net court which was fitting. But Stoop should have already won having twice been a break up but thrown it away, and was a break up in the 1st as well. Tiebreak was terrible as well with Fitzpatrick double faulting at least twice, and Stoop once, and her blowing a **5-2 lead before eventually winning 8-6... with an error from Fitzpatrick. Stoop was slightly better, but will get destroyed in the next round if she doesnt improve
Broady vs. South this however was a very enjoyable match, with the only downside being Mel Souths mother shouting come on Mel after every point. Broady started the better of the two with some great hitting, but gradually as the match wore on she made more and more errors and started to hand the match to South.
Broady has a huge serve and forehand, but although the backhand is very good, it is too inconsistent and she makes too many silly errors of it. And lets not talk about some of her volleys as well....
Broady saved 6 break points in the 3rd set before she was broken at 3-3, and most of them were with huge serves, as 3 were aces and 2 unreturnables, and I think shed have won if this was on grass as she would have just made enough big serves to not have her weaker groundstrokes exposed she has to get the first strike in or she struggles.
OBrien vs. King good match on the whole from Katie, despite losing he first set. In the first set she was just missing the lines with her shots, but improved over the next two sets and looked quite good, although the second serve is still a concern.
She got a break up in the 3rd but gave it away and looked as if she was going to choke, but battled hard to fight back and break again when I had a feeling she would fall away. Finished off strongly with some huge groundstrokes as well and looks in good form at the moment
Baltacha vs. Klepac how did Baltacha lose a set to her opponent? Didnt the first set though, but the evidence of the last 2 sets suggest she couldnt have played the match. Baltacha broke her 7 times in a row (from 5-3 first set to 0-5 3rd set when she finally held), and her opponent looked to have nothing to hurt her at all, and had a pretty weak serve.
Baltacha did play quite well with some huge forehands and some huge serving as well, and back on the grass shell be dangerous.

Highlandman Jun 5th, 2008, 03:46 PM Such a shame it was not possible to play on grass the R1 and that also explains Brenda's loss. I'm very sad for her, cause she won the tournament in 2007 & she is loving grass most on tour.
It means that she is probably out of Top-300 next week :awww: I wish she can play somehow in Wimbledon, she would deserve it. To play US Open - Qualies will be hard. Best wishes. :awww:
Must have been very frustrating for Brenda then yesterday, after such a bad season so far & now was not able to play on grass on a grass-tournament :(

They aren't on the site yet I'm afraid.
Have recieved details of the websites FTP today, as the site admin hadn't been on for a few days. Sadly, I couldn't upload them myself, so will be sending in the images for the 3-4 days I have been too so far. Hopefully shouldn't be long before they are added, probably will be all the galleries together.

hammerhead Jun 5th, 2008, 10:40 PM So many players still in Surbiton that are on qualifying list for Birmingham (ie, Wickmayer, Kulikova, Adamzak, Spears, Fujiward, Jozami). How does that work? Can they still sign in for Birmingham?
Europe rocks Jun 5th, 2008, 10:41 PM Oh Katie, when will you ever get your head together. Chin up and good luck in Birmingham :)

Depends when quallies for Birmingham starts and how far these players will go here. If Birmingham quallies starts Saturday, and these players win the QF (but play the SF on the Friday and lose, then they can play, even if they have to play onSaturday, they can still ask for their quallie match at Birmingham to be put back to Sunday - but that'd be a shitload of tennis in 3 days for them...QF/SF and F at Surbiton, and then on Sunday they'd have to play 2 rounds of Birmingham quallies too.

kittyking Jun 6th, 2008, 08:32 AM erakovic was rubbish, she just pokes the ball around. she only won because czink's temper got the better of her
Marina was fantastic at Roland Garros, but then she came from beating Tathiana Garbin in a marathon 3 setter and Jelena Jankovic to a 2nd set tiebreak.........to struggling to get past Czink. I must admit, despite my :woohoo: animation earlier Marina would have expected it to be alot easier. Naomi should have been a pretty easy match in the first round, but the scoreline suggests something different.
I'm a bit worried for Marina, but shes been in the dumps before (I remember her loosing streaks on Clay ). If Marina can bring her Roland Garros form onto the Grass courts here then she still has to be the one to beat here, but I am a bit worried
kittyking Jun 6th, 2008, 11:05 AM I'm guessing play will start shortly :D
