Misa and Tammy have been the form players of recent weeks, and they both deliver results on the big stage, Tammy will be extra dangerous with a full set of aces, and Misa will continue to win as long as opponents keep choking against her :o JJ is a great HC player, if she changed her points up a bit more she'd do better, but she doesn't, so I'm not optimistic she'll go all the way.

Throughout the hardcourt seasons, American fans haven't had much to cheer about, except for Mashona Washington. In the past couple of weeks, Washington has carried the hopes of the United States while fighting her way into the later stages of tournaments. She reached back to back semi-finals and just recently advanced to the second round of the U.S Open after a huge victory over Russia's Anna Chakvetadze in three sets: 6-7(0), 6-2, 6-1. America's rising star, Washington, has now booked a match against top-seeded/ranked Michaella Krajicek.

"It feels great to know that the American fans are rooting for me. It's been a tough season for me but I think since I made the finals at Eastbourne, my game has matured and I'm starting to play better."

After reaching the Eastbourne finals, Washington was knocked out in the first round of Wimbledon against Michaella Krajicek. Mashona stated she is hoping to have a chance to get a bit of revenge.

"I was really upset about Wimbledon. I felt that it was a tournament that I could've gone really far in but I should've played better. I feel like I'm playing great on the hardcourts, it suits my game style a lot better and it's my favorite surface. I'm going to go out tomorrow and play my best and whatever happens, happens."

'This is the best day of my life! Coming into the event I had a good tournament in Canada but that was it, I never expected to win the US Open! As I came through the draw, I grew in confidence and in the semi final against Misa I knew I was going to win because I have her number but in the final I really expected Jelena to dominate but I was so pumped and played a perfect set of tennis in the first set and wanted to keep it up but Jelena improved and made the second set a real challenge but I was so focused on getting the victory. I would like to thank my coach for the great work he has done in the last couple of weeks to make me into a grand slam champion. I would also like to thank the tour organiser, the rest of the players and the crowd for all their support. But my biggest thank you goes to NATHALIE DECHY. With out her this wouldnt ahve been possible. She is my idol as she is to thousands of others. '
