CrossCourt~Rally May 11th, 2008, 01:18 AM This looks to be a tourney where some younger players can string some wins together. CoCo is on the ALT. list. I'm also holding out hope that AMY recieves a WC ( if she is ready and wants one )...:bounce:
auntie janie May 11th, 2008, 01:23 AM I'm sure Coco will get in; the withdrawal date is Tuesday and a lot of players will pull out on that day.
It's nice to see Asia back in action, too.

StephenUK May 26th, 2008, 11:45 PM What a dud entry for a $50k! It seems absolutely ridiculous to me that the ITF should hold a $50k event outside Europe at this time of year when all players worth their salt in the top 200 or so should be in Europe with Roland Garros qualifying over and Wimbledon around the corner. With only one top 200 player in the draw, this event should be downgraded to $25k next year.
NyCPsU May 27th, 2008, 12:03 AM If Lauren can keep up her form she really could defend her final. I think her 1r will be the toughest in her section. Good luck!! :scared:

Well, it still a nice opportunity for the lower ranked players and juniors to get some points and Itf level match play in :bounce:. From what i hear, there is always a nice turnout for this event :D:bounce:.

Uhh - why should top 200 players need to be playing in a $50k anyway? I mean really, maybe they will play a couple throughout the year, but this is a nice way for the lower ranked players to get some points too.

StephenUK May 28th, 2008, 09:57 AM Uhh - why should top 200 players need to be playing in a $50k anyway? I mean really, maybe they will play a couple throughout the year, but this is a nice way for the lower ranked players to get some points too.
That just isn't true. Compare this to the entry list of these 50ks.
Surbiton:
http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100017379&event=&order=Position
All the players in the main draw are in the top 170 and in fact only Haynes would have made it of the Carson lot.
All seeds were in the top 150 in these $50ks
St Gaudens:
http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tournaments/tournamentresults.asp?tournament=1100017453&event=
Latina:
http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tournaments/tournamentresults.asp?tournament=1100017163&event=
The 25k event this week at Galatina has a much better entry:
http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100017361&event=&order=Position
I have a very cynical view of this event - looks like a desperate attempt to bump up a few more US players into the top 250. Tournaments like this really argue the case for the return of quality points - you just look at how a useless Japanese player like Kumiko Iijima can get to around 200 in the world playing thinly attended $25ks and $50ks in Japan with only just about one victory over a top 200 player in her career. Surely the whole point of the ranking system is to earn points commensurate to how hard/prestigious the tournament is to win and not by playing a cynical rankings game of looking for events with weak entries to play in and cleaning up.
Let's hope Anna Tatishvili can win and spoil the fun!!

Surbiton always has a good list, because there are so few grass tourneys, and players want practice for Wimby quallies - so that's not really an argument. I did say that the players 150-200 play a couple of $50ks a year, so I don't see what you point is with St Gaudens & Latina.
Galatina has 5 players 150-200, plus Schaul with a protected ranking - and look at what other choice these players have this week - a $50k in Carson, and nothing else higher, so it's not surprising. Of course most Euro players will stay in Europe to play. If there was a $50k in Europe this week, then the seeds in Galatina would all play there anyway.
If Carson is pointless, then look at half of the $10k's that don't even have quallies draws and shit - so what if you think it's a worthless event. I'm sure the players are glad to have the opportunity to play there.
Since when was quality points a part of your argument? I liked quality points anyway so  Just coz a tourney isn;t as strong as YOU think it should be doesn't mean it's worthless though.

OMG :weirdo: Loser, it's the european season now, all the top players are in europe. :smash: And do you think cause of that there shouldn't be a big event in USA during the european clay season? Bet you'll come and compare the 50k Bronx EL to one from Europe in August. :weirdo:

That's right. I remember that on the start of season there was a lot 25K in America and in Europe. And I compared one week entries and I remember that on tournament in Moscow(25k) last direct into MD had ranking around 700, and in America(25k) last direct had ranking around 200.
So, that changes from a month to month. But there is a lot of easy tournaments in Europe to, in this moment.:wavey:

Like i said in a previous thread, this gives the juniors and lower ranked players a nice shot at some nice points on the ITF level. Asfar as the comment on tennis players within the top 200 not needing to play 50Ks, well... i think most of the posters who regulary post in the ITF section know that many 50Ks consist exclusivly of top 200 players trying to make it onto the main tour. LLW seems to be playing well again! Hopefully she can remain injury free and have a strong summer :bounce:.
Lee-Waters' Boy May 30th, 2008, 03:34 AM so lindsay looked like her old self in the first set, getting her first serves in, keeping the ball deep, playing smart tennis. in the second she got down 1-4 making a lot of mistakes and had points to get back to 3-4 but when she lost the 7th game to go down 2-5 the set was over lol.
in the third she was down a break the whole set until she broke back to make it 4-4 only to be broken again (at love maybe? she was either broken at love or i thought in my head that she was goin to when she got down 0-40 and cam eback to take it to deuce. one or the other lol). she really played well at the end moving lauren around and attacking her second serves. she definitely fought for this win
all in all she looks 1000 percent better than when i saw her in allentown last year or southlake last year. shes much fitter and seems to be playing smart tennis and not getting so down on herself which always led to errors
go lindsay! :worship:

I see that you edited this post because of typo's, but maybe you should have simply deleted it. Most 50k tournaments do have alot of top 200 players, thats not an opinion thats simply stating a fact. This is a weak tournament, but it gives players who have either just returned the tour or those making a leap from playing juniors a chance to get some valuable ranking points.
Sachas had a good start here, and has a reasonable draw. Here's hoping that she reaches the Quarters of better :yeah:
