danker Oct 17th, 2001, 04:10 PM I'm not surprised with Yan-Hua Dong's thrashing of the 7th seed. She's a good player concentrating on the pro circuit, rather than play much juniors. And she did beat Elena Bovina in March last year.
Good luck to 15 year old Joanne Cheung against the 3rd seed, although I can't see her winning. I hope she one day achieves the dream of being Top 10 in Asia.

NejedlyKanepi Oct 18th, 2001, 10:25 PM she beat bovina eh? sounds quite impressive!!!!!
TheBoiledEgg Oct 19th, 2001, 04:03 AM Yep she beat her and was pretty impressive though Elena was pretty tired having played 8 matches in previous week and then having to fly to Hainan and qual again. Lost in final rd qualies having won 2 rds previously.

danker Oct 19th, 2001, 03:57 PM Eggy, Yan-Hua is 18 this year.

BTW, were there any other players that you found impressive in those 2 Chinese tourneys?
TheBoiledEgg Oct 19th, 2001, 04:16 PM Na Li was the one other "Asian youngster"that impessed me , she did pretty good and got to semis at both events , lost to Elena in 1st 7-6 6-3 , that was pretty close encounter with lots of deuce games.
