Dokic/Golovin Storm into Semis
http://www.golovin-attitude.com/tativictory.jpg
Melbourne, Australia
Home crowd favorites Jelena Dokic and Tatiana Golovin, although not Australian, is loved for being HOT. They took on in round 1 Schiavone/Vesnina. In set 1, Elena and Francesca hopped all over their opponent's nerves, using aggressive plays at net to get quick points. They broke Jelena and Tatiana once each to win the set 6-2.
Set 2, Jelena and Tatiana picked up their games and worked better together as their power overwhelmed their opponents. Jelena and Tati got the one necessary break to win the set 6-4 when Dokic returned the serve of Vesnina, right at Franny whose reflexes weren't quick enough.
In the decider, both teams played great, but it was Franny and Vesnina who broke twice to lead 5-2. When serving for the match, Jelena and Tati got the crowd into the match, which helped them greatly as they fought their way back into the match and took the third set to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak it was all Dokic and Tati as they won the match.
http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2006/01/15/wbTENNISdokic_wideweb__470x370,0.jpg
Dokic in her interview said," I am estactic to win today, we looked like we were going to exit, but we fought hard with the support of the amazing crowd and deserved to win. I hope I can win this title with Tati!"
In the Quarterfinals Dokic and Golovin took on Maria Sharapova/Ashley Harkleroad the 4th seeds. Dokic and Golovin took early control with their pounding groundstrokes to lead 4-1. They had a minor hickup getting rebroken, but they recovered to take a 5-3 lead and eventually closing it out 6-4 with Golovin hitting a volley winner. Set 2, was all Dokic and Golovin as they used their power to ease through the set 6-2 with Dokic hitting a forehand down the line winner.

"I can't believe we won, they were tough, but we played amazing today. I really want to win this title for my home crowd with Tatiana. I hope we play together more often."
Dokic has made an impact in the doubles world as she is #4 in the world and makes the semis here of the Australian Open.
"It's funny, to start out on tour I was a top singles player and now I'm slumping, but I am doing well in doubles, I want to continue that success."
"Next we have Anna and Amelie, Amelie is untouchable on this surface, but in doubles we are on equal turf so hopefully we can take her down."

Hentuchova on top!
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c371/moomoopoopoo/untitled-1.jpg
Today superstars Danela Hantuchova and Justine Henin, stepped on court ready to show Australia why they were the top doubles team in the world. The pair has had many defining moments together and alone. Daniela has won the tier one Porotoz Open and the tier two Sunfeast open in Kolkata, Justine Henin has made consistent semis and quarter finals and recovered from a slow start to the season. She is currently in the semi's of the Australian in Sinles. Together he pait took home the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts and made the final of the Sony Erricson open in Miami. They havent played to much togetheer due to scheduling conflicts but now are back and ready to own!
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c371/moomoopoopoo/0900.jpg
In the First Grand Slam of the year the lovely laies are not only seeded one but are two and three in the world alpabetically and respectivly. In the first round they recieved byes becuase they are to AWESOME to play first roounds. In the Quarter-Finals they played Maria Kirilenko of Russia and Home crowd favorite Sam Stosur. The Aussies went home sad though because Hentuchova was not to be stpped. They took it 6-3 7-5. In the next round, the semi finals they will play Kuznetsova and Dementieva.

Sharapova In Slam Semis

http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/017r7wk8s2eqn/610x.jpg

Sharapova has won her Quarterfinal match today against PC player, Jill Craybas. The world number 6 was completely dominant and didn't let Craybas into the match. The only time she was losing was the first game, when Craybas held her serve. But after that it was all Maria as she took the match in two easy sets. 6-2 6-3. Sharapova hit no less than 12 aces and no moer than 1 double fault.

Sharapova will next face Amelie Mauresmo, who is unbeaten on the surface and Sharapova has lost to her twice, both on Rebound ace. Sharapova altough, has never lost a match on the rebound ace except to Amelie Mauresmo of course, and thinks that she has the game figured out and hopefully break this winning record from Amelie and start one of her own.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42494000/jpg/_42494487_sharapovaap_416.jpg

Sharapova wasn't so lucky on the doubles court today with Ashley Harkleroad as they were beaten by Jelena Dokic and Tatiana Golovin.

Interview with Maria Sharapova

A good win for you today.
Oh yeh, thank you.

Tell us about the match a little bit.
Yeh, well you know... I played pretty well. I think I played great, like one of the best matches I've played and you know, it's always good to have a win under your belt. Gives you the confidence.

Next up is the RA queen, Amelie Mauresmo. Tell us your feeling about that.
She's a great champion, you know, she deserves to be number 1, I mean, look at her. She's been the OUTSTANDING player of this gamem so she deserves to be there. Well, you know, I've never won more than two ogames off her in a set but you know, hopefully I can do better. Maybe even win the match. My coach and I have watched tapes of her play. And you know, try to work on my games against her especially.

You have now reached 3 semifinals in a row, do you think you can go one better tomorrow?
I know I have the potential to do it, you know, but it's whether or not I CAN do it or not. But I'm happy with my current result and I will just take it one day at a time.

You and Ashley lost today, even though you won last week. What are your thoughts on that?
Well, I have apologized to Ash and I think she understands, I mean, I'm pretty tired from the singles and I hope she can forgive me. I'm not happy with the way I played today. I played horrible on the doubles.

Good luck next round Maria

I had more to put up.. i just had to go to tennis :p

Basically,Amelie Mauresmo will stay number 1.
If Henin or Sharapova wins, they will be number 2, if they both lose in the semis, Sharapova will be higher than Henin by 1 spot. And if one beats the other in the final, the champion will be number 2 and runner up number 4.
For Vaidisova, if she lose in the semis, she will stay number 8. If she lose in the finals, she will be number 6 and if she wins she will be number 3.

Henin Sends Stosur Packing

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/3716/dag1cj6kp6.jpg
J. Henin During Her Win Over [2] S. Stosur

It seems even the heavy crowd support was not enough to stop Justine Henin from defeating the number 2 seed Samantha Stosur in the Quarter finals of the Australian Open. Henin the number 8 seed this week was not the favourite going into the match, Stosur is ranked significantly higher and also more comfortable on the Rebound Ace surface. It was always going to be a tough battle but today it seems the diminuitive belgian was just too solid, winning in straight sets. The first set started out very well for Justine she quickly raced ahead to a 4-1 lead, however it seemed as though she lost focus for a bit and in no time it was level at 4-4. Henin ragained her composure to rattle off the final two games of the set to take it 6-4 with a powerful bakchand. The two exchanged breaks early in the second set but it was Henin who managed to hold and was soon up 5-3 with match point. The crowd really started to lift stosur and she played some inspired tennis to fight off 2 matchpoints and level at 5-5. The two were soon engaged in a tense tiebreak, Justine soon took the lead and sealed the match on her third match point with a delicate drop shot, the final score 6-4 7-6.

In the doubles Justine and her partner Hantuchova also won through to the semifnals, they came up against the pairing of justines two previous singles opponents Kirilenko and Stosur. The pair cruised through the opening set 6-3 but found themselves quickly down in the second 3-1 however some brilliant play from Dani soon had the set levelled at 5-5, from here the aggressive play from Henin/Hantuchova was simply too much for their opponents and it was all over 6-3 7-5. next up for team Hentuchova is the all russian pairing of Dementieva/Kuznetsova, it should definitely be a tough match but hopefully Hentuchova can make the final.

In the singles Henin is set to face off with Nicole Vaidisova for a place in the final of the Australian Open. Nicole dispatched of Steffi Graf in the quarter finals after being down a set she battled to eventually take the match 6-7 6-2 6-3. She is definitely one to wtahc out for, Rebound Ace is her WORST surface and here she is in the semifinals of the AO. meanwhile in the other half of the draw Amelie Mauresmo easily accounted for Dinara Safina 6-4 6-1, and Maria Sharapova demolished Jill Craybas 6-3 6-2.

J. Henin Post Match Interview
http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/7498/e9d52ac4feed4551ee84458ur2.jpg

Q: A tough Quarter Final victory, give us your thoughts on the match
JH: Well, yes it was tough match for sure, I knew i had to be very aggressive and try and keep the lead the whole time because with the crowd support it would be very difficult for me to comeback from a deficit, luckily i was able to this and i am very pleased to get this win.

Q: She is number 2 in the world, does that make the win more significant to you?
JH: it is a great accomplishment to beat someone ranked number 2, of course she had to play some excellent tennis to get to that number, so it does mean a lot to me. It gives me hope that someday i can be ranked that highly.

Q: Do you think you'll climb much in the rankings after this tournament?
JH: Actually Sharapovas coach has outllined all the scenarios and if i were to win i could be number 2, that doesn't seem very likely but no matter what i'll move up at least one spot, hopefully more. It was very nice of sharapovas coach to share these stats with us, I wish Maria and her coach the best of luck against Amelie.

Q: Amelie is still undefeated on this surface, is there any hope of her being upset?
JH: well you know, she is just so strong on this surface and I would love for somebody to take her out. I mean Ashley harkleroad was really close to knocking her out, but she still fought on. Maria is playing very well and might have a slight chance but i expect Amelie to win through to the final in straights, and she will definitely be a huge favourite to win the title.

Q: Next up for you is Nicole Vaidisova, what are your'e thoughts on that one?
JH: I think she is playing some incredible tennis, this is her worst surface for sure and still she is here in the semifinals, I think she will definitely be very dangerous especially on her better surfaces. she seems to have a very strong gameplan. It is definitely a great chance for my first grand Slam Final

Q: I know its a bit soon, but the clay season is just around the corner, what are your feelings about the clay season?
JH: well for sure it will be my chance to make my mark on the season, There are several other really good clay players like Kuznetsova, they will be my biggest challenges, Amelie will hopefully become more vulnerable on the surface, she really owns me in the head ot head, of course all our meetings came on Rebound Ace though. My first tournament will be Amelie Island, and I hope to do well there, but i'm not quite finished here in Australia yet.

Hi everyone:wavey: Unfortunately I lost to Amelie Mauresmo, but it was quite close 6-7,7-6,7-6.
I played very well, considering I HATE rebound ace:p I'm really glad I was able to really make her work, but it was emotionally, mentally, and physically draining. After the match I went back to my room and cried for a good hour or so:sad: Maria and I also lost in the doubles, but it was mostly due to fatigue. Not to say that Jelena and Tati didnt play well, because they did, but Maria and I were not at our best.
I'm going to watch Maria's match later, hopefully she'll have better luck against Amelie than I did:lol:

Mauresmo fights into first slam final

http://english.people.com.cn/200511/11/images/1110_C04.jpg

Still undefeated on rebound ace, World No1 Amelie Mauresmo reached her first Grand Slam final as she defeated Maria Sharapova 6-4 6-3. Her opponent in the final will be 8th seed Justine Henin, who demolished Nicole Vaidisova 6-1 6-1 in the other semi-final match.

"I think we played a great match. It was tighter than it looked," she said. "It's been very intense physically, I'm very happy to be in the final this week again. I was relieved at the end I was able to come through and keep the momentum for the whole match. It was the first time I played Maria. That's why I didn't know what to expect from this match, but it turned out to be good. I'm very happy to be in my first slam final of course. Too bad we lost in doubles with Anna, but it's been a good tournament for us. I think we can be proud of ourselves, making the semi-final of a Slam and losing in three sets and a good fight is not something to be ashame of."

Talking about her opponent in the final, Amelie said: "I know that Justine is a very good player, a great competitor. She proved it by reaching the final. She is playing very well this week, so I will have to be ready as soon as the first point starts. I faced a hard opening match against Ashley at the beginning of the week. But since then this tournament has been a dream, and I don't want to wake up too soon. Of course a final is always a different match, but I think I'm prepared."

Dokic and Golovin Make Shock Run To Final
http://www.rogerscup.com/5/photos/341x230/golovin_17.jpg
Melbourne, Australia
Jelena Dokic and Tatiana Golovin came to Australia hoping to have singles success, but both weren't entered in doubles. Dokic approached Tati and they teamed up for this slam to play for the first time together. They came into this event being one of four teams having to compete in the round of 16. They barely came through that match to make the QFs, where they took out the 4th seeds in straight sets. They came into the semifinals with a lot of momentum on their side.
In the semis they took on 2nd seeds Anna Chakvetadze and Amelie Mauresmo.
In set 1, Amelie used her great serve and volley game to get a quick 1-0 lead. They then broke when Dokic double faulted on break point. Anne then held serve after lob winner over Tati's head for a 3-0 lead. Tatiana's big first serve aided her team to 1-3 after her 2nd ace. Amelie Mauresmo started missing off her forehand as they got broken to only be up 3-2. Dokic struggled on serve again getting broken for the second straight time aftrer her 5th double fault to be down 2-4. Anna served but got quickly broken when Tati hit a return winner. Tatiana also then held serve after Jelena hit a volley winner to level the match to 4-4. Amelie quickly took her team back into the lead with an ace to lead 5-4. Dokic was then broken for the 3rd time to give her opponent's the set after Amelie hit a return winner.
Set 2, both teams traded holds to 1-2 with Dokic serving. Dokic served had let her down all day and continued to as Anna hit a angle shot that Dokic hit into the net to be down 1-3. Anna then let her team down as they got broken when Jelena hit a drop shot winner. Tatiana leveled the set with her 4th ace to be tied at 3-3. Amelie then got broken to love when Tati hit a big return at Anna who volleyed it out. Dokic finally held serve with her first ace of the match and then a huge smash on game point to lead 5-3.
http://www.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,,5836578,00.jpg
Anna then quickly held serve to put pressure on Jelena and Tati to close out the set. Tatiana won the set for her team when Amelie hit a angled forehand that Tati ran down and hit a passing shot on to win the set 6-4.
http://communities.canada.com/montrealgazette/photos/opencourt/images/135431/410x325.aspx
Set 3, Jelena and Tati played amazing tennis, baseline player coming to net and putting pressure on their opponent's to hit passing shots or lobs, which didn't prevail. Jelena and Tati broke twice and the second time at 3-1 when Dokic hit a return winner for a 4-1 lead.
http://www.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,,5831793,00.jpg
Dokic held serve at 4-1 to lead 5-1 after hitting a forehand cross court winner. Amelie and Anna wouldn't go down without a fight coming back from 5-1 down to take it to 5-4 after saving 6 match points with errors from Jelena and tatiana. Pressure was on them, but Dokic served out the match ending it when Anna hit a backhand cross court that Dokic barely ran down into a lob, but Amelie then smacked the smash into the net giving Dokic and Golovin the win.
Dokic and Golovin make the final of the first slam of the year in Australia, to the delight of the crowd that an Australian can bring home the doubles trophy. This is Jelena's third doubles final, having won Sydney with Justine Henin and losing in the finals in Portoroz with Hantuchova.
Dokic was pleased in her interview, "I am soo shocked that we won today, we weren't going in the favorites, but we came through. It's a great feeling to be in my first Grand Slam Final, and even better in my home country. I would love to win my first slam in doubles in front of my home crowd. We play Sveta and Elena who upset Henin/Hantuchova, which was surprising since they were the favorites to win the title. I hope me and tati can go into the final tomorrow strong and win the tournament. I really wanna be #1 in doubles, and I think I might be if I win the title tomorrow:bounce:."

Henin Races Into First Slam Final

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/3730/93480666b26c8f979372c8cfu1.jpg
J. Henin Demolished Nicole Vaidisova 6-1 6-1 in the Semis

Justine Henin was in no mood to mess around when she hit the courts on semifinal day at the Australian Open, her opponent Nicole Vaidisova was in strong form prior to the meeting, however Henin proved too focused as she stormed through to take it in straight sets. The first set opened with an immediate break from Henin, she was all business from the start using her aggressive net attacking game to race off the a 4-0 lead. Vaidisova managed to hold onto a service game with the help of a few huge first serves, the young czech star seemed to be overwhelmed by the occassion and a red hot opponent. Henin continued her march and broke Nicole for the set 6-1 with a Powerful Forehand. The second set started just as the first with Justine racing to a 4-0 lead, however Nicoole produced some solid returns to break Justine for 4-1. Justine recovered the break back immediately and booked herself a spot in the first grandlsam final of the season crushing Vaidisova 6-1 6-1.

In the doubles Justine was not so fortunate, her and her partner Daniela were knocked out by the russian team of dementieva/kuznetsova. Henin took full responsibility for the loss and apologized to her partner Dani. Henin had decided to make her singles a priority for this slam and unfortunately her doubles play suffered a bit.

In the final Justine will face a familiar opponent, the same opponent who has defeated Justine in her last two tournaments, undisputed Rebound Ace Queen Amelie Mauresmo. Justine was runner-up to Amelie in Sydney 6-3 6-2, and semifinalist in Hobart to Amelie 6-1 6-2. It looks to be a pretty routine final for Amelie and she should have little trouble winning the first slam of the season.

J. Henin Post Match Interview
http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/7498/e9d52ac4feed4551ee84458ur2.jpg

Q: Well Justine you were simply on fire today, talk about the match
JH: Well, yes I think I played some very good tennis today, I knew i had to aggressive on each point and I was really able to stay focused out there today. I definitely put a lot of pressure on her and it seemed to work very well, definitely it is one of my best wins so far.

Q: Do you think she was a little overcome by the occassion?
JH: I do think that maybe did play a part, she is very young and the semifinals of a grandslam is a big deal, but I just try to stay focused on me and my game and I don't try to pay any attention to the other player. and I got the job done well today

Q: Tomorrow you will contest your first grand slam final, are you nervous?
JH: I have to admit I am a little nervous it is such a huge dream for me to win a grand slam, however I don't think I have improved my game enough to beat Amelie on this surface, so i am really not expecting much. I will definitely be the huge underdog

Q: You mentioned that you haven't improved enough yet, what do you think it will take to beat mauresmo?
JH: Well right now i think she is just too good on this surface, I think I would have to totally change my game in order to have a chance, and I think maybe if i did already change it I might not have made it this far into the tournament. I think my only chance tomorrow is that Amelie plays a really bad match. Definitely I am looking forward to playing her on clay

Q: You will be ranked number 3 regardless of tomorrows outcome, how do you feel about that?
JH: I think that is excellent, it is very encouraging to be ranked so highly when we are just about to start my favourite part of the season. hopefully I can keep my level of play up on the clay and maybe even get a top 2 seeding for the french open

Q: Thankyou for your time and goodluck tomorrow Justine
JH: Thankyou very much, I'll give it my best

Kuznetsova/Dementieva Claims Doubles Title

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/614/21237455849kuznetsova.jpg

Russian duo Svetlana Kuznetsova and Elena Dementieva are crowned as the doubles champion in Melbourne after they defeated unseeded pair Jelena Dokic of Serbia and Tatiana Golovin of France 6-2,6-4 in the final. This is their second doubles title together since Estoril earlier this season which was played on clay.

The final began after the singles final in which the #1 seed and heavy favourite Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo crushed Justine Henin, the eighth seed from Belgium in just 50 minutes.Dementieva served first to start the match. The third seed raced to a 3-0 lead before Dokic/Golovin won their first game on the Serbian's serve. The unseeded pair then broke Dementieva's service game but found themselves getting broken once again and trailed 2-4 in the first set.Kuznetsova served for game to love in the next game.Kuznetsova and Dementieva both hit some amazing volley winners and a couple of sizzling forehand winners to win the first set 6-2 on their second set point after being down 15-40 in that game.

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/3499/sveta.jpg

The second set seemed to be more competitive as Dokic/Golovin eventually broke for the second time after 10 deuces. They then held their service game for only the second time as well to lead 2-0 in the second set. However, things happened very quick and unexpected as Dementieva/Kuznetsova stepped up their game to break 3 times in a row to eventually be ahead of their opponents 5-2.Dokic/Golovin later held their service game successfully to stay in the match before the Russian pair got broken for the third time under Dementieva's serve after 4 dueces and ended with a forehand down the line winner by Golovin.Dokic/Golovin were to serve to stay in the match once again but found themselves digging the hole in their graveyard when they were down 15-40 with double match points.Despite the two points were saved, they found themselves in trouble again when Kuznetsova hit a forehand crosscourt volley to set up their third match point. It was game, set, match the Russian duo after Golovin failed to play the drop shot over the net.

Dementieva/Kuznetsova's path to the title:
R1: Bye
QF: Nadia Petrova/Tzipi Oblizer W 36 64 64
SF: (1) Daniela Hantuchova/Justine Henin W 76 63
F: Jelena Dokic/Tatiana Golovin W 62 64

Q:So well done girls on your second doubles title together!
E & S:Oh thanks.
S:In fact, this was her(Dementieva) third doubles title.(laugh) but it's also our fourth straight doubles final.Right?
E:Yeah. We both played together in Estoril and Hobart, plus in Melbourne here.We had a different partner once in between the events because both of us signed up for different locations.By the way, congrats to Tatiana and Jelena for the match and a good week for them.

Q:How is it do you both feel to win this title?
S:Well, for me,it's pretty important.Because if I don't win this,I might be pondering for different things in the future. So I'm actually glad to win this, especially with Elena.Winning doubles in fact is just an icing on the cake, you know. But too bad I don't have the 'cake' at the moment(laughs),so we'll see when I'll be getting the 'cake' or the icing will be expired one day(giggles).
E:It's a pretty amazing week for me.I feel very good to have won this with Svetlana too.I've win three doubles title now,one with Venus in India and the others with Svetlana. So it's pretty amazing that I did pretty well in doubles but sucks in singles(laughs). But you know,I'm pretty patient and appreciative with all the things coming into me.So it's all destiny, really to me.

http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2008/SPORT/02/29/tennis.dubai/art.kuznetsova.gi.jpg

Q:It's been relatively easy path for you girls to the title throughout the tournament, don't you think so?
E:Oh well,it's not as easy as it seems. For instance the final, although the scoreline looks like those average matches you've seen,it's actually pretty tight.Like there's a couple of games we went through like almost 20 dueces in total.Yeah,so it's pretty close.
S:We played a pretty close first match here against Nadia and Tzipi. Then we beat Justine and Daniela in the semis which was pretty great because they are the #1 seed. Then we actually would like to thank Tatiana and Jelena for beating Anna and Amelie. They have done a great job because if it were Amelie and Anna in the final against us,we would have lost to them once again after Hobart(laughs). So Jelena and Tatiana also beat the Maria and Ashley, the fourth seed,so it's pretty amazing feat as well.Perhaps it's because they played an extra match in the first round, whilst we had a bye,so we still have more energy today compared to them.

http://resources.sportingo.com/gallery/16331.jpg

Q:So any plans for the future?
S:Well,I have planned to play a full clay schedule in order to prepare myself for the French Open.I have very pathetic results in singles.I've played three events on this surface and one on my best surface and guess what,I couldn't even win a match.I want to get out from here as soon as possible after I lost against Dinara here in the first round(laughs) but I'm also happy the fact that we are now the doubles champion in this slam.Anyway,I'm aiming to win at least a title on clay and hopefully play doubles again with Elena. The overall performance of this clay season would eventually determine my future.
E:Oh,I have totally forgotten to sign up for the clay season!(laughs) I'm going to do it soon and probably I'll be playing a full clay schedule as well since clay is also my most favourite surface.I hope to win something too(giggles) since I also had a disappointing rebound ace season.

Q:Thank you girls for the interview and all the best in the rest of the season.
S & E:Thanks a lot!

Amélie Mauresmo wins Australian Open for first grand slam!

http://pics.centerblog.net/pic/tennistar/hb4cpgl0.jpg

Top seed French Amelie Mauresmo won her first Grand Slam title, as she routed eighth seed Belgian Justine Henin in Friday night's Australian Open final. Mauresmo, who has been undefeated on rebound ace this season, blasted Henin 6-1 6-2 in just 50 minutes at Rod Lover Arena.

The athletic Mauresmo entered this major with recent titles in Gold Coast, Sydney and Hobart and was considered the pre-tournament favorite. She has now won all the titles on rebound ace and ran her overall winning streak to 14 matches.

Mauresmo broke in the opening game of the match to take control. She then broke a second time before wrapping up the first set with an ace. In the second set, Mauresmo took another early 4-0 lead as she broke Henin in the first and third games. But Henin held and then got a break at 4-2. Mauresmo then made sure she would not stumble coming in as she broke a third time for a commanding 5-2 lead. Mauresmo, who has now won all three meetings with Henin, closed out the match the following game. On championship point, Mauresmo dumped an unreturnable lob that Henin could not handle.

Henin has played brilliantly this week, but did not have enough to take down Mauresmo in this match. The French had only 18 winners compared to 19 errors, but her ability to make her opponent hit an extra shot was the difference. Henin was forced into 32 errors and had only eight winners in the lopsided match.

In addition, Mauresmo converted 6-of-11 break point chances, compared to the Belgian, who was just 2-of-6.

http://www.follementgay.net/famous/amelie-australie6.jpg

"First, before I thank everybody in this world, I want to thank everybody in my box, who've supported me all the way through, not just this week, all the way in my life," Mauresmo said in her post-match speech. "Thank you very much, I love you. Second of course Justine. Unbelievable tournament and you should be proud of yourself - if she won tonight it would be absolutely deserved, so well done for her success."

"I know that most of the crowd and some players wanted her to win more," she said of Henin. "I was the favorite and people usually prefer the underdog to win. But that's OK, it's alright. I still love you guys, don't worry," she added with a large smile. "I'm very, very happy that I won my first Grand Slam here. It's really an amazing feel. I had an awesome week here. So hopefully we'll see you here on this stage a lot more often in the future."

Mauresmo Outclasses Henin For AO Title

J. Henin Falls Well Short In First Slam Final

The first slam final of the season turned out to a very one sided affair. Frances Amelie Mauresmo, who was undefeated all rebound ace season eased to her first slam title defeating henin in just 50 minutes. It was not a pretty match by any means, and the croud would have been disappointed in the lack of fight from Henin. It seemed that there was nothing she could do right against Amelie, everything she threw at her was coming straight back with interest, which forced Justine into a lot of errors. The match started with mauresmo easily running to 4-0 lead using her serve and volley attacking style of play, Henin pulled herself together to hold serve for but it was the only game she would win in the set as Mauresmo took it 6-1. The second set saw more of the same from mauresmo her net pressure was forcing many errors from the Belgian and it was soon again 4-0. This time Henin managed two straight games for 4-2, but just as in the first set mauresmo powered to a comprehensive victory 6-1 6-2 in only 50 minutes.

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/510/r1248594675.jpg

Now looking ahead to the clay season Henin is preparing to play in Amelia Island and the Bausch & Lomb Tournament. The tournament will also feature Steffi graf, nicole Vaidisova and Svetlana Kuznetsova in its draw. Svetlana Kuznetsova is another one of the players that calls clay her favourite surface, and will be pairing up with justine for doubles and hopefully they can form a strong partnership and do very well. Most of the top players have opted to play at the hardcourt event in stockholm including Amelie Mauresmo, this is expected though as there are quite a few players who do not like to play on clay. This suits justine very well and she will be looking to make a huge impact on the dirt.

J. Henin Post Match Interview

Q: Well Justine you must be disappointed with youre performance today, talk about the match
JH: Yes there is definitely some disappointment, It was a slam final and hige chance to win a grandslam. However I take the positives from the match, mauresmo was not beaten by anybody on this surface and she was truly the better player on the day. I didn't ever really expect to win this tournament with her in the draw.

Q: What did you expect coming into the tournament?
JH: Well, to be honest i didn't really know what to expect, I didn't know if i would be ablwe to handle the pressure of the grand slam, however i think i did quite well, I mean only one player did better than me. Coming into the tournament my main goal was to mkae the final, i knew that Amelie would be the champion, she is really a cut above everyone else on the surface.

Q: You say you knew Amelie would win, did her match with Harkleroad surprise you?
JH: That was definitely a huge surprise, I think maybe if Ashley could have won that match i would have had a shot at winning this title, however it was not meant to be and amelie fought through in the end.

Q: Well Next for you iws Amelia island, what are youre expectations there?
JH: Well I actually have really high expectations for my clay season in general, It is my favourite surface and i just made a slam final, and I'm now number 3 in the world, I expect to be winning tournaments, that being said there is some really tough competition on clay, with the likes of Kuznetsova, Graf and Vaidisova it definitely wont be easy.

Q: Congratulations on a fantastic week, and good luck for your clay season
JH: Thankyou it has been a great pleasure to play here in Australia.

Vamos.

I can't believe Henin didn't change her points to suit Amelie all these weeks. You are the only one who could, it seemed at the beginning anyway, realistically challenge her...but you just kept your same game to she won each time EASILY. No ambition?
