Henin Handed Tough Draw
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/5224/6b42214a6a696750d332106cc3.jpg
J. Henin a Finalist Last Week in Sydney

Justine Henin comes in to Hobart having made the final in singles last week in Sydney and also fresh off two consecutive doubles titles. However it will not be easy going for the Belgian in Hobart, she has been given a very tough draw, in the first round she drew Marta Domachowska, a player who is not only more comfortable on Rebound Ace than Justine, but also has a winning record againt her. If Justine is to survive that match she will come up against another player who has previously conquered her, 4th Seed Elena Dementieva. To top it all off Rebound Ace Specialist Amelie Mauresmo is looming in the semis.

Henin Spoke about her draw and her chances:
"Well it is for sure a tough draw, I mean Marta she is a great player especially on this surface and she defeated me in my first match, I sometimes still have nightmares about that match because I was so close to winning. Elena she is also a very tough player, but i'll keep my focus always on my upcoming match. I would be really excited to make a deep run at this tournament, however I know in tennis nothing is for certain and I have a very tough first match coming up."

In the doubles Justine will again be playing with a new partner Australian Samantha Stosur. Henin is fresh of two doubles titles (Gold Coast w/Hantuchova, and Sydney w/Davenport) and hopes to continue her success here.
"I have shown very good form in the doubles recently, my partners have helped me a lot in these matches and i'm sure sam will complement my playing style very well, she has a big serve which always helps. It will also be great to have the Australian crowd support with us."

Kuznetsova Feels Dejected

http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/614/54b2084d719b94df55d21de40b1448a5-getty-tennis-wta-kuznetsova.jpg

Russian player Svetlana Kuznetsova finally breaks out from her silence from the past two weeks to speak about her current feelings and performances on tour.

Q: Hello Svetlana!Welcome to Hobart.
S: Thank you.

Q: So first of all,how do you feel now or how do you think about Hobart?
S: Oh,Hobart is a pretty cool place, you know.I have not walk around the city yet but I found out this place is pretty interesting. The sceneries are just breathtaking.I pretty like how the surrounding is,you know. For me,the old buildings seem pretty historical. The arrangement of the buildings in Hobart actually attracts me a lot.Hope I am able to explore the city more.As for myself,I feel pretty good although not as good as when I first joined the tour.

Q: What happened?
S: Well, obviously my recent performances affected me a lot.You know, when you are not playing to your expectations, you will feel very disappointed.I had an interview a fortnight ago and I talked about how glad I was that time when I had some encouraging results. But since then, everything went wrong for me and I have not won a match since.I went out straight away in my first match on clay against Maria(Kirilenko).I still felt good although I lost. She played much better than me of course. But you would still feel the bitterness when you lost on your best surface, don't you?

Q: I would perhaps.
S: (laughs)Yeah.Maybe.Anyways,I won doubles that week with Elena(Dementieva) which made my week.I'm happy that both of us enjoyed our time together on court as both of us didn't win the singles title. Then the most disappointing moment happened last week in Sydney.Rebound Ace isn't my favourite surface as you know but I still gave it my all.Yet,I lost to Jill(Craybas) whom I shouldn't lose against.I was pretty devastated to be frank.I know I could win but I was so uncomfortable with the court and just could not bring my game. She just ball-bashed and had the win.Besides,I would like to thank Amelie(Mauresmo) for playing with me in doubles and made the final.I guess I somehow brought her game down in the doubles.I really just could not make those necessary shots.

Q: So what will you do to solve the problem?Any plans for you to improve?
S: Definitely yes.I'm trying to adjust my game a little and see how it goes.I will give myself a certain time period to see whether it is worthy for me to continue playing before I make my final decision. But at the moment, like I said,I'm just doing anything I could to improve. Moreover,I just committed in a full clay events schedule after Australian Open in order for me to prepare for Roland Garros. My performances from then will determine what the best thing I should do.But before that,I will only focus in playing tennis competitively.

Q: Now lets talk about your draw in Hobart.Any idea who you may be playing first?
S: As you might know,I get another first round bye, which may not be a good thing for me anyways.I might play either Maria(Kirilenko) again who beat me in Estoril or Nicole(Vaidisova). Both are pretty equal but Maria has a slightly upper hand I believe. If I manage to get past the quarterfinal,I might meet Samantha(Stosur),the second seed, who also beat me in the final at Miami. She may not be playing her best at the moment but she definitely has the weapons which suit the surface.Awaiting one of us in the final would definitely be Amelie(Mauresmo). She is just playing unbelievable tennis right now.She has won like 2 straight titles on this surface,so it won't be surprising if she adds another title under her belt.Nevertheless, she is definitely the heavy favourite for the Australian Open title.

Q: Any predictions on how you will be doing here this week?
S: Well,I actually expected myself to lose without winning a match since I do not think I have enough confidence to boost myself to play my best bit I will try to give my best of course. We will see how it goes. The most I can be is in the semifinal.Oh,besides,I hope to play good in doubles as well with Elena(Dementieva) once again.I'm now both #6 in singles and doubles. So I just hope myself to maintain or not worsen my positions in both rankings.Wish me luck.(laughs)

Q: Thanks for the interview and best of luck in the event.
S: Thank you very much.

Kirilenko wins Russian Battle

http://i28.tinypic.com/5k0ho4.jpg

In one of the most anticipated quarterfinal clashes with Russians Svetlana Kuznetsova and Maria Kirilenko going head to head for a spot in the Hobart semis they didn’t disappoint, Kirilenko's variety was too strong for her compatriot and the tournament 4th seed as she cruised to a straight sets win 6-3 6-3.

The younger Russian started off with a bang, her backhand down the line and footwork troubling Kuznetsova with Kirilenko racing to a 4-1 lead. But Kuznetsova fought back, as she broke back to put back on serve at 4-3. The 4th seed Kuznetsova was using her volley to full potential before Kirilenko's lob struck into form as she reeled off winners from both sides taking the set 6-3. With the Hobart sun beating down on centre court, both girls took long change-overs guzzling bottles of water, dehydrating themselves after a busy first set. Both Russians held their opening service games before Kuznetsova took charge, smashing winners off Kirilenko's second serve to break to lead 2-1. But that was as close as she got to breaking again with Kirilenko taking a strangle hold of the match, reeling off 4 straight games with her drop shots proving too much for Kuznetsova on the rebound ace. Leading 5-2, Kuznetsova bravely fought off a match point at 30-40 with an ace, winning the game but stopped in her tracks as the world number 14 served out a love game to progress to the semifinal at this Australian tier 2 event.

During her on court interview Kirilenko said, "I'm really happy with my performance today!" "Sveta's a tough opponent to play and I came through it the end." "I play well when I'm the underdog so hopefully I can play my best tomorrow against Sam and reach a final."

Revenge Is Sweet For Henin
http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/4575/capt669e63547b2c41e49abjz0.jpg
Justine during her fightback win over [4]Elena Dementieva

Justine Henin has avenged the first two losses she suffered this season, firstly taking out Marta Domachowska, who defeated her in Indian Wells. Then fighting through a tough three setter to defeat 4th seed Elena Dementieva, who defeated Justine the week later in Miami. Her first match was very difficult, Domachowska is more comfortable on the Rebound Ace surface, however henins recent fine form continued and she took the first set with a single break of serve 6-4. The second set was more of a battle both players holding serve right up til 5-5 this is where Henin gained the advantage applying pressure by attacking the net, and eventually closed out the match 6-4 7-5.

Next up was #4 seed Elena Dementieva, Henin fell behind early but had a chance to level the set but Elena was playing just a fraction too good and eventually take the set 6-4. Henin started well in the second taking an early lead before Elena started to fight back a little, but when henin fired an ace at 5-3 and set point it was all level. The third started much like the second with Justine taking the early lead, before a few "lucky shots" by Dementieva, before long it was again 5-3 for Henin and she sealed the deal with a trademark backhand down the line winner 4-6 6-3 6-3.

Henin commented after her qf match:
"It has been very good to get revenge against these two players, they are both very dangerous and I had to play at a high level to beat them, for sure the match with Elena was my toughest win so far, she hit so many lucky shots, I mean yes there was that 1 lucky ace that I hit to win the second set but there were something like 5 really lucky shots that Elena hit throughout the match, it was unbelievable. I really feel i could have won a lot easier if some of these lucky shots would just go my way, but in the end i was able to fight for the win and thats all that matters."

Next up for Justine is world #1 Amelie Mauresmo who defeated her just last week in the final in Sydney. Mauresmo has been untouchable on the Rebound Ace surface with a perfect record, and there have been no players who have even looked like beating her.

"Its a real shame i must play Amelie in the semifinals, she is so tough on this surface, i'm very happy for the opporrtunity to play her again, but i do not expect a different outcome"

(2) S. Stosur def. M. Kirilenko 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 and moves into her second final of the year. Samantha's footwork and feel for the ball was just enough to scrape past Maria to get into this rebound ace final.

Kirilenko bows out in Thriller

http://i32.tinypic.com/5x7e2t.jpg

Hobart, Australia - With hundreds of Australians flocking into the Moorilla Hobart International grounds for semifinal day today, many were coming to witness the night match pitting world number 2 and home favourite Samantha Stosur up against Russian battler and Estoril semifinalist Maria Kirilenko. After top seed Amelie Mauresmo demolished Belgium Justine Henin 6-1 6-2, Stosur and Kirilenko took to court and boy did they not disappoint. A match producing spectacular winners, fancy footwork and excellent ball touch it was the home favourite who just scraped over the line against Kirilenko 7-5 4-6 7-6. Here is Maria Kirilenko's press conference after her tough loss.

I - Talk about the first set Maria.

MK - Yeah sure. I got of to a bad start and went down 4-1 but I fought back to get back on serve at 5-4. Sam then held, broke and held which won her the set. She was moving really well, her footwork was perfect.

I - What did it well like getting broken after winning 4 games straight?

MK - I was really frustrated. I was moving her around really well then the errors crept in again and there goes the set. I needed to be more patient in that service game, I was rushing too much.

I - In the second you were down 4-2 and you fought back. Talk about that.

MK - I was hitting the ball really smoothly but Sam was playing too good. She was feeding off the crowd's vibe and her serve was racking up plenty of aces. I found myself 4-2 down and I thought, gee it's now or never. So I started volleying more, approaching with backhand down the lines and it paid off. I broke back and won the set 6-4, I was really relieved.

I - How much of a battle was the last set?

MK - It was really tough, both of us were playing our best tennis. It went game for game, point for point and I remember that long deuce which went to 8 deuces. I was fighting for every point and so was Sam, every rally proving a battle. I served to stay in the match at 5-4, and was 2 points away from defeat but I kept fighting, I'm not a quitter. I got up 6-5, but Sam's placed her serves perfectly and it was hard to return them. We both had medical timeouts just before the final set tiebreak, Sam had blisters and I had cramped legs. Sam won the tiebreak but I was happy with my performance.

I - What was the crowd like?

MK - Look the crowd never stopped chanting all night. They were an awesome crowd to play in front of, even though 95% were supporting Sam, they clapped my winners and never booed. These are crowds I feel honored to play in front of.

I - Next up the Aussie Open. How do you think you'll fare?

MK - I've had great preparation for it with semis in Estoril and here, so I'm determined to do well. It's a grand slam so I need to be playing my best to do well.

I - Thanks and good luck in Melbourne.

MK - No problem, see ya there!

Mauresmo wins 3rd title in Tasmania

http://comingout.free.fr/mauresmo-photo.jpg

France's Amelie Mauresmo needed just 1 hour and 10 minutes to sweep past second seed Samantha Stosur 6-3, 6-1 and lift the Moorilla Hobart International in Hobart on Sunday, her third title in a row after Gold Coast and Sydney.

Top seed Mauresmo took complete control of the final without struggling in any of her earlier matches, while Stosur appeared to have little energy left following a gruelling three-set win over Maria Kirilenko late on Saturday. Despite playing at home, the Australian could not compete with Mauresmo's return of serve and strong backhands during the short match.

"I think she was tired from last night," said Mauresmo. "There wasn't a lot of time for her to recover. But she had a great tournament, so congrats to her. Next week it's the Australian Open. The first grand slam of the season. Some say that I'm the favourite to win there. Well, I don't know what to think about it. It's true that I'll be the top seed, and I've had a good preparation with these tournaments, but you know, nothing is ever written in stone. There are a lot of other players who can potentially win it too. But of course, I hope I'll do well there, and you can be sure that I'll do my best. I'm sorry, I can't stay long because I have to get ready for my doubles match with Anna. See you later."

The victory makes the 28-year-old Mauresmo the favourite for the first grand slam of the year, the Australian Open which starts next week in Melbourne. Sunday's victory was her third title this year following wins at Gold Coast and Sydney the weeks before.
