She has played WTA tourneys this year too (Auckland, Aussie Open, Antwerp), and she's only playing $50k ITFs and above. It's not like she's been ranked in the top 100 all this time or something.

I'm sure Yanina will now play less ITF. She was planning on playing more WTA, but up untill now there was always a reason not to ... In Pattaya for example she couldn't get there in time because her flight was delayed (it was right after fedcup). In Estoril she couldn't play because she played finale of Monzon ... so if it wasn't for those reasons she would already have played more WTA

she could get a WC at Rosmalen or Eastbourne, but that's not sure yet, she's on the list in Birmingham ... so those things show she will make her way to WTA now. Not meaning she can't play ITF every once in a while, right?

She also won a round of AO quallies, and played a good match against Paszek in the first round of Auckland. So what if she only won 1 match in the MD of a WTA event? Like I said, she's working her way up slowly. It's not like she's been ranked in the top 100 for ages and is still playing ITFs, and she is playing the bigger ITFs. Last year she mostly played $25k's - this year $50k and $75k. And it's only 4 months into the season. It;s not like she has the ranking to get into the main draw at alot of WTA tourneys yet. When she's ranked like top 70 and still playing ITFs then start moaning. She's also won a match in Luxembourg quallies at the end of last year. But you can see her progression up through the tourneys at least. Like I saidm last year was mostly $25k's, this year it's some WTA tourneys, plus $50k's and $75k's. She'll probably start to play some more Tier 3 & 4 WTA tourneys soon enough. (Like Birmingham, where she's in quallies & she's also on both lists for the week before Wimby (Rosmalen and Eastbourne) - but she's an alt for both at the moment). So please, it's not like she always and only plays ITFs.

Why don't you give her a chance to play some more WTA tourneys first before bagging her for playing alot of ITFs? As Konijntje said, she was going to play 2 other WTA tourneys this year, but because of certain circumstances, she wasn't able to. Maybe she will lose 1st round of Wimby - depends on her draw too. If she gets a seed, then it's expected that she loses anyway - maybe she gets a Bondarenko and beats them again. :p

The only reason Yanina is in Wimby MD is because she has been playing very well this year. She started at 170 or so this season. And this is thanks to some great tournaments at the end of last year. Before that she wasn't even in top 200. Anyone who has followed Yanina's carreer knows she hasn't really had the opportunity to play more WTA because of circomstances. Moreover entry lists for WTA are made 6 (?) weeks before start of the tournament. She has not often really had the ranking to play MD (or even Q) WTA. Her ranking of tomorrow will get her into WTA tournaments that start in 6 weeks, not next week. That explains all the ITF's she's been playing very well! Beating the 2 Bondarenko sisters in 2 days is definately promising. So, Yanina, Goooo!

at the end of last year people were saying she only played "the weaker asian challengers".
now she shows great results in european and american challengers and there's still complaining.

you shouldn't forget that for a WTA-tournament, they look at the ranking 6 weeks before the actual tournament. and the only thing she could do with that ranking was playing the bigger challengers (quallies for a small WTA-tournament is not easy because she always gets to the final stages of a tournament)

I'm not a moaner, and I do have a scoop for you, players can enter WTA draws without wild cards :lol:

And I think she could have for example just committed to WTA Tour, look at the cut off of the tier IV Q-Draw...And if she is THAT strong, she would have qualified and won some matches in the MD instead of destroying some poor top 200 players (and sometimes the Bondarenko yeah I got it :D)

Everybody choses their own path, in life, but also in tennis. If Yanina choses to build up slowly, giving her lots of match-practise, that's her choice.

Just got back from the tennis. Had to leave at 5-4 Yanina due to Mother's Day dinner plans, but I did get to see the women's doubles final in its entirety and the first 9 games of the singles final. Got lots of pics as well, and I'll post some later tonight.

It was windy as hell here today, 30mph winds and so the quality of play was compromised some, and the power game was totally netralized.

Walking out, I passed Madison Brengle, one-half of the winning doubles team. :)
