Apr 17th, 2008, 08:27 PM Olaru storms to Dubai title http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/2853/fulljgetty76184553mh158mu7.jpg Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru has shocked the OWTT tour by winning her first title in Duabi this week. Coming in unseeded, it looked like the Romanian teenager was going to be nothing to worry about for the other players in this tournament. But after back to back wins over Ana Ivanovic and Elena Dementieva, seeded number 4 and 5, Ioana found herself in her first semi final. Then, after defeating American Serena Williams in three sets, beat good friend Shahar Peer in the final, 64 06 60, to end the Israelis 14 match winning streak. This crown will boost her up 20 places in the rankings, to number 10. "It is unbeleiveable. I told you to watch out for me" laughed Olaru at her post match press conference. "I came in here like I would anyother tournament. Just looking at it one match at a time and trying to play my best. I had solid tournaments in Antwerp and Doha, as I finally got some wins under by belt and that set me up well. When I saw my draw here, I thought a quarter final was possible at a stretch not somthing like this. But after wins against Ana and Elena, I started to think I could maybe win this thing. To play Peer was hard as she is my good friend, but in that final, I felt like I wasnt to be beaten. Its been just a fantastic week for me" When asked about how it is to play on the OWTT, Olaru replied "Well there are a few characters around to say the least. There are some, er, outspoken players and some people dont get along, but I say ts just competitve. Id rather not say to much, I prefer to keep quiet and play tennis. I guess most of the rivalaries are only just a bit of competiton though" "Im playing Fed Cup next with Agnes Szavay and Shahar Peer. I know these two quite well and both can play great tennis. We are all in the top 10 and in with a great chance. Hopefully, we can win that tournament. My next competiton in singles is Bangalore. Itll be hard to follow up this tournament but I'll try to emualte it with some good things there" champion88 Apr 17th, 2008, 08:33 PM Good article :yeah: E.Dementieva_FAN Apr 17th, 2008, 08:40 PM Olaru :worship: I lost to the eventuel champion. :p Shahar  New #1  :worship: Fretchap Apr 17th, 2008, 09:45 PM Ioana  Well deserved :bounce: Fretchap Apr 17th, 2008, 09:46 PM Shahar's streak is over :) Fretchap Apr 17th, 2008, 10:07 PM Ree chokes it : Title was hers http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2007/01/11/serena2_narrowweb__300x483,0.jpg There is no doubt Serena Williams is the best player on tour, even if she couldn't prove it with ther results this year. Serena got to the SF of Dubaï this week and was leading 4-0 in the third set but choked the match away, to a Romanian girl who eventually won the title against Shahar "The Bitch" Peer. After her SF Ree was totally out of her and couldn't believe she let that one go away, she said "She wasn't playing that great, she was just keeping ball in the and I was the one winning or losing the rallies." Serena really made the match, Raluca made almost no winners and no unforced errors, but Reena made a lot of both of them. What made the difference really was the little too much unforced errors she did, Serena said about it, "It's unacceptable to play like this. I was so not focused when I had to. I was just thinking about so many things, excepted what I raeally had to think about." Plus the defensive game of her opponent also was pretty good, she commented the way her opponent played, "She's not bad. If I wouldn't have choked at the end, she would have had no cahnce to beat me with her game. But in today's condition she did just what she had to do." Reena's final comments were, "This title was mine, Shahar Peer is a little loser, I would have killed her in final. It's really shocking that I choked it today." There was only one good thing Ree said after the match, "At least, I'll increase my lead as number 1 American and keep my hopes of staying U.S.A team captain." Serena presently has a good advance on her compatriot Lindsay Davenport, she said about her "She's a great lady, there's a great little contest between us to see who's gonna be the captain of the U.S.A. team. But no matter what happens, i can say she'll play two singles or one single and the doubles for sure if I'm teh teamp captain. I lke her" Serena also was asked about her relationships on tour, first we asked her to comment her relation with Jessica Moore, "I don't really know her. But I know she had some little troubles with Lindsay this year so I think it's important to support Lindsay as we'll play in a team later this year so I can say that I dislike Jessica Moore." Then how she felt toward Shahar Peer, "She's an agressive bitch. She's just not nice to anybody but still thinks everybody likes her. Obviously she has friends but I don't understand them. I hate her..." Then with Tatina Golovin, "I don't understand why she has so many ennemies (laughter). Tati has her own personnality, till now I like her as a friend. She's a sweet girl." champion88 Apr 17th, 2008, 10:28 PM Thanks Ree :worship: .... no more choking form now on :p |
