Orbituary - Daniela Klemenschits
Former Austrian doubles player Daniela Klemenschits has died after a 15-month battle with cancer. She was aged just 25.

Daniela and twin sister Sandra were diagnosed with a rare form of abdominal stomach cancer in January 2007, which required ongoing surgery and expensive medical care. Last summer, the tennis world came together to raise money for the twins with stars such as Roger Federer, Justine Henin, Maria Sharapova, Marat Safin, Rafael Nadal, Ana Ivanovic and Steffi Graf donating items for an auction on sonyericssonwtatour.com. A total of $70,000 was raised, $50,000 of which came from player’s pockets.

The Klemenschits sisters reached a career-high of 95 in the world doubles rankings, after an impressive season in 2005 which saw them reach the final in Istanbul and semifinals in Budapest. Together they won 20 titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit and played doubles for their country in Fed Cup in 2005.
