Welcome to OWTT's first Grand Slam. The first two weeks on tour have been really exciting in the lead-up to the season's first Slam. The favourites for the title include Gisela Dulko, Nicole Vaidisova and Serena Williams. But with all the girls training hard and wanting it so much, anyone could walk away with the trophy. As for doubles, Schnyder/Ivanovic and Sharapova/Stosur have clearly established themselves as the top 2 pairs. Will Ivanovic/Schnyder make it a clean Aussie sweep or can someone stop them? After a strong start to the season in OWTT, Venus Williams says that she is ready to give all she has to do well at the first grand slam of the year.

"All I can say is that I am ready. Ready to play here in Australia. I had a tough first round exit at my last event, but I'm so over that and ready to play some good tennis here in Melbourne."

Can I ask why Wildcards are being put into the Round of 32 when people who played last week are being put in the Round of 64?

Surely the newest players, being the lowest ranked, should get those spots.

I do get your point, but I just put the seeded players in then everyone else at random - thought was the fairest and easiest way? Plus, would still need 4 players from last week to play R64 as well.

Ye, I know some would still have to play and maybe that could've been random. Which of the last weeks players play the Round of 64.

Sharapova wasted no time after arriving in Melbourne, getting on court straight away. She sayd that she wants to be ready for the tournament, as she didn't do so well last week. She got a bye from the round of 64 and will meet her opponent from last week Martina Muller, in the round of 32. In the round of 16, she will either face, Mary Pierce or Elena Dementieva, the number 6 seed. In the Quarterfinals, she could meet, new number 1 Gisela Dulko or the number 7 seed Caroline Wozniacki. Rounding off the top half is number 7 seed, Ana Ivanovic, number 16 seed, Rezai, number 14 seed, Radwanska, and last week's finalist, Nicole Vaidisova, the number 3 seed.

The bottom half consists of former world number 1, Tatiana Golovin, Jennifer Capriati, the number 13 seed who got off a great week last week and Agnes Szavay, the number 4 seed.

In the doubles, she again, paired up with Samantha Stosur, and hoping that their losing streak against the number 1 team, Ana Ivanovic and Patty Schnyder will end this week.

Australian Open is shaping up to be a good event and will promise some good matches, so stay tuned.

Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - 17 year old hometown hero Jessica Moore will be out to claim the biggest win of her career on Rod Laver Arena in the second round of the Australian Open. Moore, who last week lost to Gisela Dulko, is very motivated to reverse that result here this week.

Bitches! here I come, I am here to competes and wins, last week was my first tournament and I know you all are going to say: I lost to Dementieva! but hey she was #3 seed and I took the 2nd set 6-0!

At Melbourne, I am definitely a different player than last week, I have been training so damn hard to fulfill my goal, which is #1 player on tour, watch me! Coming to my 1st ever Grand Slam tournament, I don't have anything to lose, I just have to go out there and play my best!

Serena training this afternoon

Coming in this first Grand Slam of the year, everybody could think Serena Williams would be gald and anxious but she isn't. After a very slow start this year, losing her two matches in doubles and having as best result, a quarterfinal is dissapointing. She gave us an interview to talk about the upcoming week and the Australian Open.

Q: How are you feeling Serena?
S: Just okay. I have trained hard today, I'm not really feeling my shots. I'm a bit worried

Q: Are you expectations big for the Australian Open?
S: Not really, the way I've been playing since the beginning of the year, nobody expects me to make it far. I'd like to prove them wrong, but it's not likely to happen if I don't start playing better soon.

Q: You still are seed number 7, don't you think you're a favorite here?
S: No. The favorites here are the ones who were able to string 4 and 5 victories in a row, I didn't do that at all.

Q: What do you think about your first round opponent?
S: Nadia Petrova, a new player. That's a little scary! She's a new girl and she wants to make a big upset, I guess. I'm not so confident, I think it's a dangerous match.

Q: Any predictions for this first round match?
S: If it goes in three sets I'll win if I lose the first, I think I'll go down in two.

Q: How do you explain these bad results with Aravane in doubles?
S: We are just not playing well. We are not serving well, volleying badly and returning badly. We quite sucked since the beginning of the season.

Q: You'll play against Sharapova and Stosur in doubles, do you believe in your chances?
S: I'd like too, but we don't play well till here and these two girls are liked by the fans and the tour director so the referee will probably be corrupted (:lol: j/k) so I think our chances are slim.

Taking on World No.1, Gisela Dulko, Moore was completely outplayed in the first set. The pre-match hype and hysteria seemed to dimish. Dulko's neat and tidy groundstrokes were her most fearsome weapon. The Argentine, who beat Moore in the 1st Rd at Sydney last week, pushed her younger and less experienced opponent around the court. Dulko took the set 6-0 in just 28 minutes.

After a bathroom break, Moore seemed to get a second wind as she came out firing in the second set. Her first serve was amazing, her backhand breathtaking and her forehand was just simply unbelievable. She ran Dulko all over the court, denying the World No.1 the chance to use her eloquent down the line backhand. In a 33 minute display of brute force, Moore snatched the set 6-0. After claiming the set, she clenched her fist to her support crew and the crowd gave her a standing ovation.

And so the scene was set for a nailbiting finish. Dulko gained the early accendancy, taking advantage of some unforced errors -from a rapidly tiring Moore. But when leading 3-0 Dulko got the wobbles and threw in some uncharacteristic double faults and projected forehands into the back fence. Moore used this and levelled at 3-3 before Dulko regained her confidence and set up a 5-3 led.

With one more role of the dice, Moore played some standout tennis, worthy of her own Kia Hotshots segment, and once more levelled the scores. However, by this time, Moore was a spent force. Not even the crowds fervent support for her opponent could stop Dulko from clinching the decider 7-5 in 68 minutes. It was the highest quality encounter of the tournament so far.

After the match, a gracious Moore acknowledged Dulko's superior consistency and court craft. ''She just played an awesome match. She had an answer for me ever time I took it to her. It just goes to show what a great champion she is and she is definitely the favourite for the championship.''

Dulko responded saying Moore had ''obvious potential'' and that she would be a ''long term threat.''

So whilst Moore's singles campaign has come to an end, she still has the women's doubles event left on her schedule...Make sure you get out there and give her a hand!

Maria Sharapova has once again defeated Martina Muller in her first match in Melbourne.

The first two games of the first set were holds, 1-1. And then it was trades of breaks as both players were shaky on serve until 3-3 when Sharapova held again to love, to lead 4-3. Sharapova then broke again to lead 5-3 but Muller saved two set points and broke to get the set back on serve 5-4. Sharapova, determined to take the set, broke to love and took the set 6-4 when Muller netted a backhand.

Both players were better in the second set with their serves as both held serve until 6-6 and it went into a tiebreak.

Muller had the early advantage, and had 3 set points at 6-3. But Sharapova denied and didn't want to go to a third set, she took the next 5 points and won the tiebreak and the match, 6-4 7-6(6), when she hit a forehand winner. She will now face a fellow Russian, Elena Dementieva who is the number 6 seed this week.

Yeh, you know, it was okay, I mean, the first set, my serves were really shaky, but stepped it up in the service department in that second set, but so did she, so no breaks. :D

Describe your performance last week.
It was an alright week, I didn't do so well in the singles but did good in the doubles, making it to the finals.

Yeh, again. Thanks for rubbing it in *laughter*. No, it's alright, Sam and I have talked about that, and I think it's about time we get revenge, I mean, I don't like losing to people twice in a row, and I'm determined not to make it 3 in a row. *laughter*

Are you going to focus on the doubles or the singles for now?
Ohh well, I'm not focusing on just one, I mean, I want to do well in both you know, so I will do my best in both. I mean, it's kind of mean if I focus on singles, and not doubles, because you're letting your teammate down, and if you focus on doubles, you're letting yourself down. So I want to do well in both, yeh.

What are your expectations this week?
I want to do well. I would be happy with a semifinals in singles. But, it's going to be hard you know. There's Dulko, who is number 1 and she has nearly dominated. So hopefully she loses before quarters, no hard feelings *laughter*. I want to do really good in doubles also, I would be happy with another finals but if it's the finals I don't want to lose to Ivanovic and Schnyder again, you know.

But I want to win. That's what I came here to do.. I came here to win.

Really exciting match between these two. The first 2 sets saw some amazing tennis being played, but it was Dementieva who grabed the early lead in the decider, which proved to be crucial. I like that Sharapova tried to change things up this week though, even if it didn't do her as well as she would have hoped.
