"I am extremely humbled and flattered to receive an extra boost fromt the director for my first event of the year. I'm a decent grass player, but can still use all the help I can get to do well against the best grass players. I'm happy to have gotten my personal life under wraps and now I can focus on playing tennis with my friends on the tour."
Williams will be competing in the singles and doubles event here at 's-Hertogenbosch with her partner Jennifer Capriati.

Venus Sets Goals For The Remainder Of The Season
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/505/SM_VENUS_W06_004.jpg
Q: How are you feeling Venus?
A: I'm feeling great right now, just ready to play.
Q: Playing Doubles?
A: Yep
Q: With.......?
A: Jennifer Capriati
Q: So what are your goals for the remainder of the season Venus?
A: Well, the first thing that comes to mind is making the Year Ending Championships so that I can defend my title. But I must make it there first, which will be a challenge to me since I've missed so much of the season already.
Q: Do you think that you can do it?
A: Sure, I think I can. I'm playing really well in practice and hitting my shots well, so yes, I think I can do it.
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/505/sipa_30594798.jpg
Q: Do you think you can compete with the top players Venus?
A: Yes, I feel that I can compete with anyone. Even the great players have horrible tournaments, days, matches, sets, games, and points. I just hope it's not me this event.

Venus Williams, seeded seventh at this event, started of her Ordina campaign with bang winning in both singles and doubles. In her first event back on the ATC tour, Williams is sending message that she belongs to be with the top players.
"I'm really happy to get through my first match today. It's always good to get a win under your belt after you have been off the tour so long and everyone else has been improving their game.
I'm also really excited about Jennifer and I playing doubles together at this event. I hope that it can be for the season so that we can make a run for the year ending championships. Jen returned unbelievably today and I served well, so I think we are going to make a great team on tour."
Next up for Venus Williams is the in form American Mashona Washington.
"I'm looking forward to playing Mashona. I have a winning record against her and hope to continue good play against her. I will need to be at my best and I do consider this my first real test of the season."

http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/3/global/photogallery/2007/wimbledon_week2/f_27.jpg
Today in one of the best matches played on the grass surface of the Ordina Open this year, world no. 7 Venus Williams took on fellow American Mashona Washington in the Round of 16.
Both players remained on serve until Williams captured the first break to go up 5-3 in the first set. A shaky service game from Williams would give Mashona the break back and she would hold serve to bring the match to 5-5. It was as this point that Williams would show the form that brought her the Year Ending Championship crown. She would win the next 8/10 points hitting 6 winners including a down-the-line forehand that gave her the first set.
The second set mirrored the first as both players stayed on serve until 4-4, but this time it would be Washington who would capture the first break of serve winning a ferocious 17 stroke rally with a cross-court forehand that not even Williams could get to. Washington would serve out the second set, but not without controversial line call on Williams on break point.
A lines person called one of Washington's serves long, but then corrected himself. The chair umpire immediately left the chair and consulted with the lines person. After a brief discussion the chair awarded Washington the point which brought the game to deuce. A clearly dissapointed Williams would miss the next to balls long giving Washington the second set.
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/505/Vee23.jpg
Using the momentum from the second set Washington would start strongly racing to a 3-0 lead. Washington had a break point on Williams serve to go up 4-0, but this would be the turning point for Venus in this set. Not only would she fight off the break point, but she would eventually win the next 5 games to go past her fellow American 5-3. Washington would hold serve and break Williams serve for the 5th time of the match to bring it to an even 5-5 once again, but the final set of the match would end much like the first, with Williams zoning in or her opponents serve and shots; wrapping up the 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 encounter with ace down the middle of the grass surface.
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/505/Vee33.jpg
"This was such a high quality match between Mashona and I. We always play well against each other, but this match was just ridiculous. We both fought hard and wanted the win badly. I can tell she didn't want to loose this match, and neither did I."
Next up for Venus will be the Daneila Hantuchova. This will be another test for Williams as Daniela is playing well on the grass lawns of the Netherlands.

Golovin tearing her crucial ligament in her first round match.
Yes those are the shocking headlines that have puzzled fans around the world as today, French world number 19 has announced 2 pieces of bad news. After the last quarterfinal match of Rosmalen finished Golovin called a press conference attended by countless reporters and interviews as well as the ATC singles director. Choking back tears, Golovin announced that she had teared a crucial ligament in her leg during her loss to Maria Sanchez Lorenzo. Doctors say it will take about 3 quarters of a year to recover which shocked Golovin. The Frenchwomen has battled from the start of ATC, neve giving up even if the times were tough. Already in the pits, the Frenchwomen then started feeling dizzy and ill, and spent 3 hours in her hotel room throwing up. In crutches Golovin headed to the doctors where they informed her she had the same disease that struck down Sam Stosur, the West Nile Virus. I was then all too much for Golovin as she announced her retirement.

“I have so many great memories of the ATC tour,” she cried.
“It was such a great tour and I never wanted my journey to end like this.”
“Good news is my coach will still coach on the tour as he will now coach my good friend Sania Mirza.”
“Sania wants me to mentor her and hopefully she can be a driving force on the ATC.”
