So here it is, we have our doubles place! How good it feels!
I thought to start this communauty (cos I guess there'll be mostly always the same people around), why not telling the story of how we got to like doubles and who is our fav and why?

Ok, let's start! I used to like Mary Pierce a lot. I followed her singles results, but just the matches I could catch on french TV, so mostly RG and Fed Cup. And then, one day in Fed Cup, in the doubles of 2005, after a tie 2-2, they had to play doubles. I was in the audience in the stadium, and was amazed by how beautiful doubles game was. I had never really seen it before (except with me playing, and that was not that good!). So that's how I started to have interest in it. Then the second reason is I saw Cara Black play in a singles match, got interested in her serve and volley game, and had the opportunity to go and see her play in the Doubles Masters in Madrid in 2006.
What I saw there was unbelievable: the teams were Zheng/Yan, Black/Stubbs, Peschke/Schiavone and Raymond/Stosur! I watched the three matches, and that was it, I became a doubles addict.

My absolute fav in doubles is Cara Black cos to me she has the best net play ever. Cara is not a leader on court, nor a powerful striker, but she is magic while at the net. Especially on grass, I was lucky to see her play in Wimbly and she has that thing!

I'm not a doubles addict but i really enjoy watch doubles matches because it's fun and i like the net play :hearts:
My fave is Roby Vinci :worship: but i like watch also Santangelo and Black :p

I started getting interested in doubles after seeing Ting and Tiantian win gold in Athens :eek:

My absolute favs are Zi and Jie :hearts:

I like Zheng, Zvonareva, Safina, Kirilenko, Petrova, Kutznetsova, Mattek and the Bondarenkos in doubles :)

definitely Chan/Chuang!!because they are Taiwanese

I love watching doubles. Alot of the time the matches are more fun to watch than singles. I think players need to be more talented to be successful in doubles than singles as there are all those touch shots and reactions etc. It's the fitness and athletiscm that is more apparent in singles.

Doubles is actually played more in social tennis. I never used to like playing doubles (always better at singles) but in recent years, having watched alot more doubles, I actually have improved alot and quite enjoy it now (but alot of it depends on who I play with aswell).

My favourite doubles players are, well Lindsay obviously, but I also love watching Hingis play doubles with anyone and I have seen a few old tapes of Gigi/Natasha (I was like 6 when they last played so never watched them live), but what I saw of them from past matches was amazing.

Maybe I'm not a double addict but I like watching doubles. Doubles it's an other world, more true in my opinion. And with their best representants Cara and Liezel I can't not like doubles. Then seeing doubles it's different, it's pleasant to change sometimes.

I like Cara an Lizel, Kveta, Katarina and Ai.

I actually prefer watching doubles when I attend tournaments - always a nice atmosphere, often the fans are also more passionate about it probably because most of them are die-hard fans (have no problems with casual fans though). I often find myself rooting for the doubles experts as they need to earn a few bucks as well. ;) Favorite players? I like Jans/Rosolska a lot, but also Santangelo, Srebotnik, Uhlirova and Benesova and few I have forgotten while typing this. :)

I agree. Plus you can sometimes hear them speaking to each other, and the players definetely show more emotion in doubles.

I love watching doubles.I find it a funny and very strategic game.Like the net game and also some lobs that are amazing.The passing shots are great also,they hit great smashes and good first serve can do more damage in doubles than in singles.
My favs doubles players are Paola Suarez :hearts: ; Virginia Ruano Pascaul;Ai Sugiyama;Cara Black :rocker: , Patricia Tarabini,Laura Montalvo and Kveta Peschke.

I love doubles because of the fast pace and the diversity you don't always get in singles. It's refreshing :)
Can't say that I have a favorite team (maybe other than Shahar and whoever it is she's with at the moment;) , but she played bad in the AO final and the match as a whole was one of the less exciting I saw in doubles), mostly due to the lack of TV coverage. It's shocking to me that even Grand Slam finals aren't usually shown, not to mention less important ones.
That in turn leads to a decline in attendance which leads to both the ATP and WTA directors making "brilliant" conclusions and ruining (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=335061) the game, slowly but surely. :fiery:

I love the strategies that a pair use during their matches. I really think tennis is a very strategical game, especially in doubles.

As I said thousands of times, my absolute favourite was, is and will be forever PAOLA SUAREZ. Although if I've to choose a current player, it'd be between Sugi, Cara and Meghann (:angel:)

Obviously fave is Alicia, but Vladka is so fun to watch in doubles :hearts:

Double is fast paced and excited...the player are so talented at the net :D

As like some people in here I wouldn't call myself a doubles addict, but however I do enjoy watching doubles on numerous occassions (especially if its just a club match & all the players are having a good old laugh about their shots etc.). I like doubles because its quite a transition to singles and you have to be alert on every single shot the whole time because one quick reflex volley can make a difference. Furthermore I also like doubles just to see how the players communicate with each other and how they set up their shots in the rallies.

Players that I like watching in doubles are Raymond, Stosur, Stubbs, Molik, Hantuchova, The Williams Sisters, Peschke, Kuznetsova, Davenport & Hingis.

I love to see good doubles ralleys, nothing beats it :hearts:

My favourite doubles duo would have to be Marina Erakovic and Monica Niculescu, they are just such an incredible pair :)
No idea if they plan to play many more tournaments with each other...but if they do WATCH OUT!

I'm a doubles addict, When I go on a tournament, i prefer see double that the single.

I have seen my first double match in 2005 at Roland Garros. I think it was Kveta Peschke and Benesova against ??
Now, I'm a doubles addict. I had chance to see in french Interclub, a great team of double Cara Black/Els Callens.
After, I have discovered a great team at Paris 2007(OGF) Cara Black and Liezel Huber.

My favorite players in double are Cara Black, Liezel Huber, Kveta Peschke, Vladka Uhlirova.

Well if teams like this years Aussie Open finalists continue to succeed, it will be pretty crap. It seems like power tennis is taking of the doubles court as well. Hopefully all the top doubles players fight back and good old traditional doubles makes a comeback.

Can't wait for Sam to come back so Lisa and Sam can take control again!

Doubles give you the opportunity to see more of your faves at the same time, the action can be pretty intense, also it often gives players an opportunity to have fun and relax and you get to see that side of them as well.

My favourite doubles teams are Camerin/Dulko, Dementieva/Pennetta and any combination of the four, Srebotnik/Sugiyama and Hradecka/Voracova. As you can see Lucie and Renata are in my signature as a team as well, absolutely lovely girls, very friendly. :)

My fave team were Sveta/Alicia even though they haven't played together for a while :sad:

I like doubles more than singles for sure.. Much more creativity and decisions to make..

I always liked doubles more than singles, it's just more fun to watch and I like the teamwork aspect of it too. I don't have a current fave team, however, and, with the WTA trying their hardest to make doubles as pointless and uninteresting as possible, these days, it's questionable whether I will find a new fave team.
My fave teams were Vivi & Paola, Natasha & Gigi and Arantxa & Jana also made a great team before they split. Also, although Magui & Jennifer weren't ever a real team, they were so amusing to watch when they played together and made the Eastbourne final! Then of course, Patricia Tarabini and anyone! She was soooo amusing to watch.

I started watching doubles coz of Hingiz/Kournikova, WS & VRP/PSuarez and also coz of the great Indian pair of Mahesh/Leander. Doubles has that breathtaking instant volleys, lobs :drool: & players reactions:kiss: that we rarely see in Singles.

Currently my favourite team is Mirza/Mattek(sizzling). My all time favoutites are Hingis/Kourrnikova & VRP/PS

Before watching Chan/Chuang's AO miracle, I didn't really know what tennis is. I started to watch it afterward, and I found it's more interesting to watch doubles match than singles. And Chuang is my fav doubles player, I really enjoy watching her play.

I like dubs because it's so fast paced and this makes it exciting to watch. Players seem to enjoy more on court when playing dubs. Many players (I refuse to mention any names lol) look so serious as if they were at a funeral when playing singles but when they play dubs you can see a smile here and there.
I don't really have any clear favs though.

Doubles offers more variety that singles baseline slugging. There are volleys, chips, dinks, lops, smashes, slices, down the line winners... everything. That's why I like it :D

and she got me interested in doubles:D
She has a great personality and such a positive attitude on court and off court;) and her net play is super human:bounce:

What I like about doubles is the variety and the communicaton between players and how they elaborate strategies...

Especially at tournaments I prefer watching doubles because it's never shown on tv:confused:

I like doubles because it's fun to have a friend that supports you no matter what

It was a doubles match that got me into tennis: AO 2002 finals, ARANTXA & DaniH vs Spice Girls. :)

I also liked Arantxa and Svetlana's partnership (they beat Serena and Martina N.!)

Nowadays, I'm still waiting for Katarina Srebotnik and Emilie Loit to rekindle their partnership. They were winning every tournament they entered in 2006 so I can't understand why they don't pursue it again now that Pratt and Asagoe have retired. :o

Also, I've been a fan of Nathalie Dechy for years so I'm finding enjoyment at the fact that most of her title haul has been in Grand Slam doubles. :lol:

I have played a lot of doubles over the last year or so and it has really improved all types of my game, especially at the net, where before I had no idea :)

Just the vibe and the energy on the court is amazing. They really deserve more respect than they are given. Well obviously I love when the williams sisters team up but besides them my favorite doubles player is Lisa Raymond. Her volleys are top notch and she really is versatile and able to play with different partners and still have success. Get well soon Sammy!!!
