Amazing. This is actually the 1st time that Venus has played with a partner other than Serena in a WTA event. The only times Venus has previously partnered another woman were at exhibitions, Fed Cup and the Olympics.

So this is big. I don't think we can say on the basis of this that Caro and Venus are friends, as in people who go out to dinner and see movies together and chat on the phone etc, but I think it is very clear from this that Venus must feel very comfortable with Caro and there must be a mutual respect thing going.

My guess is that Venus wants to prepare for playing doubles at the Olympics and consequently she is obviously is prepared to play with partners other than Serena when Serena isn't available, which as we all know, outside of the Slams and Miami, is most of time. Obviously Venus and Caro must have had a good working relationship at Hong Kong and so it was Caro who got the call.

I'm really excited at the prospect of seeing how this partnership goes. How will they do this week? Will they play again? Will Venus be playing with other partners this year? All intriging questions.

Hope they do well and have fun. If they win it, well that would be a very cool bonus too. :bounce:

Actually, that is not the case. Both the sisters want to get some playing time in doubles, but they hardly ever play the same tournaments. It makes sense.

Plus, during the Aussie Open Serena asked Krajicek to play doubles with her in Paris and Antwerp. (Source: Krajicek herself on her official blog). But since Krajicek was injured she had to say no. Good thing, because Serena ended up pulling out of both tournaments as well. Hopefully in the future, that would be cool to see!

i hope they do well. for me venus has always been more likeable, and i feel her love for the sport is real. i think serena loves winning which is very different from loving tennis. through all the injuries venus has had and outside projects i still feel tennis has always been #1 for her, i think at times she needs to be more selfish and forget serena. she should play this doubles and play as many doubles as she likes and not feel guilty because serena isn't partnering her. also i feel venus schedules her tournaments around serena which she needs to stop doing as well. she has 3 maybe 4 years left in this game i want her to achieve and enjoy it as much as i know she can.

Caro talked about recently how she and Venus have been e-mailing since their doubles exhibitions and that Venus had asked her if she wanted to play Doha with her. Don't think Caro thought twice about the answer ;)
