USA showed some great fight this week to qualify for the Rogers Cup this week, but they also made the Semis. Serena showed her fight in qualifying when she beat Melinda Czink of Hungary in qualifying by walkover. Serena in the second round of qualifying took out Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 6-4 6-4 with some great backhand winners and 10 aces and Patty also played well, but Serena played better. In the final round of qualifying, Serena took out Karolina Sprem of Croatia, Sprem used her hard flat shots well, but Serena used her power and aggression better to win 6-1 6-4. Serena qualified for the event and in the first round had to take on 7th seed Michaella Krajicek of Netherlands. Set 1, Michaella used her speed, experience and determination to take set 1 6-2. Set 2, Serena found her rhythm to break early and take the set 6-2. Set 3, Michaella stormed off to a 3-0 lead before Serena used her will to win to break back to 3-2, but Michaella again broke. Serena didn't give up as she fought back to take the match 6-4 in the third.
In the Quarterfinals, Serena had to take on #2 in the world China Peng Shaui. Serena dominated the whole match CRUSHING China 6-2 6-0. Serena goes into the semis to take on Shahar Peer of Israel.
Serena in her post match interview said, "I felt good today, I played well and hopefully I can win this event."
