Making a statement from one of her residences in London, England, Jahfson had this to say:

filipina FWTT player withdraws from mexico

lindsay anne sarile of the philippines, the manila challenger winner two weeks ago, has unfortunately withdrawn from the mexico city challenger. she has long ago committed to the unity cup exhibition tournament by her good rined ruflina t. in africa.

comments from lindsay, "i apologise for any inconvenience in the part of the organizers but i have made a grave error in scheduling. the unity cup comes first because it is for charity. it would help more people, money-wise for me to play at the unity cup."

comments from lindsay anne with regard to insults said by madonika diva jafhson: "whatever."

sarile is playing doubles at the unity cup with mary wong.

After further discussion with alx about the doubles draw, it was decided that after both Masterton and Lamanke-Huber withdrew from the tournament, that there should not be 2 other players filling in for them in the doubles. We decided to try and keep fwtt in accordance with the wta, so we apologise to both Karla and Samantha, but we have decided to pull both teams out of the doubles competition.

Interview with Zerene Fernandez

Q. Rather unexpected I would say... you come in here as a 14-yo junior who had only won one match in your career on the junior circut, and that was a qualifying match. How do you feel?<br />ZF: This is amazing. I am very happy about how I am playing and to do so in front of my home country... it's great. I never expected this when I was told I got the wildcard. I feel very fortunate... I had considered giving up on tennis... because I've been injured a lot and have had little success on the tour. But to come here and beat older professionals... I've reconsidered that.

Q. How do you feel about the finals?<br />ZF: Well, of course I don't expect to win against a player who has beaten the likes of Selima Valentine and other top 10 players in the world, but you never know. I'm going to give it my best. I feel very confident right now... I think I have a shot.

Q. We've seen Anjelica de la Courtiere in attendence of all your matches, is she a friend of yours?<br />ZF: She is my... how do you say... mentor? She helps me with my game, my strategies. She's a really intelligent player... she's having bad luck lately in singles, but she's in the doubles final here.
