This is the question Michaela Krajicek asks herself the last few days: How do you call your comeback after an injury if you weren't playing at the highest level before? The last month a wrists injury inhibits her to play her so famous backhand. Some people already call it the second backhand in the circuit after the one from Justine (Henin). Of course this is a little early to say as the little Misa (as she is called by friends) is just arriving in the professional circuit. But after winning 2 of the 4 junior titles at grand slams, the expectations of this rising star are really high.
"After the last month, I didn't see this coming", said an almost crying Misa after she had won her final qualification match for this Australian Open. "I'm the luckiest person in the world already, before even playing the first round".
As she played the qualification matches she couldn't hit a real good backhand, so she saved her self with also fantastic slice backhand. The question will be, is this enough for the main draw or does she needs to be fully recovered to win some rounds.
Her first round match against Radwanska will be a tough one to start with. "I've played Agnieszka many times, but all of these matches are a long time ago. She's made big steps the last year and I still have to show that I can also make these steps. At least, I've nothing to loose" said Misa.
No matter what she will do in the first round, we will definitely hear more from her in the future!

A dream coming true!

Michaela Krajiceks coach has made a dream come true for the young girl. He asked yesterday to Svetlana if she wanted to play doubles with his daughter and as she didn't had a partner yet, she said yes. "I'm so happy, she's one of my favourite players on the tour. I used to have 3 pictures in my room, 2 from Serena and 1 from Svetlana. Of course their are always players that you love better than the others, but Svetlana was really in the top." Of course we also asked her what she thought about the tennis here. "I love to play and of course I will always try to play my best tennis. We will see how far we come, but I hope that I can play with Svetlana much longer than only this tournament. So I really have to play my best tennis here, but the first training went really well. We will see!" As Misa is new on the tour, we don't know what to expect from her. But also with the girls she was a very good double player, so the expectations are high.

For those of you who don't play the doubles, and do well in the singles will be pleasantly surprised. I'm going to go ahead and make the draw, and add any wildcards when the time comes for that.

Wow, that doubles was really tight. Really sorry for the luck, Anne and Shahar.

Yes, we defeated the number one seeded!!! Really great!!

Beginners luck!

Sometimes they say about a newcomer in the tour that they have nothing to loose. Nothing is more true about the young Michaela. She is here for the first time between the big names and that at a grand slam. “First of all I plan to enjoy everything over here. That’s why I planned the double, which is not planned to be my main goal on the tour. Just to play more and get used to the attitude on the tour.”

But after the first rounds she thinks a little bit different about it. “I now definitely want to come far into this tournament. I think much is possible, I only have to focus on the doubles”. She won, together with her partner Svetlana Kuznetsova she defeated the world number one in the doubles, Anne Keothavong/Shahar Peer with 6-4 3-6 7-5.

In the first set they made an early break, by which they reached a 2-0 advantage. They needed 5 breakpoints for this break, but still they were ahead. But than Anne and Shahar became awake and came back to 4-2. But this advantage made especially Anne a little bit careless. She made many mistakes, because she wanted to hit the perfect ball, while an easy shot would be enough. Also Svetlana en Misa were playing very well in this part of the game and they won the set with 6-4, ending with an ace of Misa.

Surprised as they were by winning this set they came immediately 4-0 behind in the second and they couldn’t make this right, so they lost with 6-3. In the third set they came again 4-0 behind, but at that moment they started playing all or nothing. But with the good volleys of both the girls and the wonderful serves they made it all. They came back from a 5-2 trail. At 5-2 they got 4 matchpoints against themselves but with 2 aces and 2 volleys these were gone quickly. So with this spectacular win in the third set (7-5) they will go suddenly as favourites into the next round!
