Casey faces Venus Williams, under the influence of a new coach so its hard to expect from the US here. Whatever happens it will be a good learning experaince for them though. * * * Wimbledon Champions Japan enjoyed a huge ranking jump after the Grass season and are on clound nine at the moment. Switzerlands Martina Hingis will be aiming to bring them back down to earth but Mortia will start as the favourite. * * * Hardcourt specialists Slovakia play eight seeds Belgium in this match. Last time we saw Rybarikova she made the final so she will be looking to capitalise on that win. Kim will have to play well if she dosnt want to be the first seeded casualty. * * * Great Britain dissapointed in front of their home crowd at Wimbledon but they are back on their preffered surface now and will be hoping to make their mark at the start of the American hardcourt season. They face Germany who will hope to build on a solid Wimbledon showing. * * * Czech Republic have a point to prove as they are yet to win a title but Klara Zakapalova will aim to change that. She starts her challange for the title against unseeded Maria Sharapova, who will be playing for just the third time under the Uzbekistan flag. * * * Israel enjoyed a great grass season ending with two finals and a grand slam semi final and Shahar Peer will be hoping for more succes in Stanford. She plays Mary Peirce, the sixth seed from France, who will be looking for a confidence boosting victory as they havnt played since Roland Garros. * * * Marta Domachoskwa will be hoping she can find some of the form that took her to titles earlier in the year to produce a good run in this Hardcourt tournament. The polish girl will face unseeded Slovenian Andreja Klepac, who is yet to have a real breakthrough on tour. * * * Chinas carrer seems to hang in the balance this hardcourt season and the world number 3 team are certainly expecting some better tournaments than previous weeks have shown. Na Li hasnt got an easy first round in Wimbledon finalist in Thailiands Tamerine Tansugarn but it will be intresting to see if Tammy can carry her grass form onto another surface.
