Jan 20th, 2008, 09:14 PM Well we didn't get a QF preview Patch ;) But you did get a live score and a win ;) I promise (:p) Il do a tournament review or somthing ;) Europe rocks Jan 20th, 2008, 09:27 PM Sugiyama too strong for Shazza http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/535/Ai_2.jpg She may be small, but she is certainly successful Japanese star Ai Sugiyama battled into the semifinals of Wimbledon today, with a 6-4 6-1 win over Maria Sharapova of Uzbekistan. However, Sugiyama didn't have it all her own way, as she had to overcome a slow start in SW19. Sharapova came out and dictated play for the first 15 minutes and stormed into a 3-0 lead. Sugiyama though started to settle down and use her greater grass court ability to battle back and steal the first set 6-4. The Japanese player exploited the poor movement of her tall opponent, who seemed far more concerned on her appearence than her unforced error count. Sugiyama looked to be sharp in the second set, as she used her pinpoint groundstrokes to move Sharapova all over the court. The crowd also got behind Sugiyama, as she used the serve and volley technique to great effect and was successful 90% of the time at the net. Sugiyama said after the match: "It's great to be in the semifinals. The crowd love me and I know they will get behind me tomorrow. A lot of the other girls on tour seem to have a vendetta against me, but I couldn't care less to be honest. I just want my tennis to do the talking." patchavong. Today Ai really showed that she deserves this place as she was tactially superb in taking the Chinese out. China will have to wait another day as they were the victims or arguably Japans biggest win yet. Jan 21st, 2008, 05:01 PM Well I think you should give 4...becuase 4 weeks after this is the USOpen :p young_gunner913 Jan 21st, 2008, 05:05 PM Israeli Team Members Arrested in Riot http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/untitled-1.jpg Israeli supporters broke out into a riot after Shahar Peer lost her semi-final Wimbledon match. Numerous arrests were made including that of Shahar Peer and Israel's Captain, Coach Spice. A simple semi-final turned into a huge riot when Israel's Shahar Peer lost due to injury to Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn 7-6(2), 6-0. After the match numerous Team Israel supporters lept out onto the court charging at Tanasugarn. After numerous arrests, Tamarine spit on one of Israel's supporters causing Shahar Peer to bitch slap Tamarine and hit her with her tennis racquet. Peer was detained as well. After seeing that display, Israel's coach ran out onto the court and tackled the Thai player and pummled her as well. After this riot, it is unknown if Israel will be allowed to come back onto the tour. We'll keep you updated on this newsbreaking story! patchavong. The Queen gave the all of the team members who were arrested a pardon and gave them $500,000 for the troubles they went through. After spending a near 30 minutes in jail, a pardon was given by the Queen herself to release the Israeli Team and their captain, Coach Spice. The Queen said the acts done by the Israeli team we're prefectly reasonable and said she would have kicked Tamarine's ass if she were present at the tournament. The Israeli team will rejoin the tour during the hardcourt season. More to come on this late breaking story which is much more exciting than the Wimbledon final. Since the final only has 4 audience members after surges of people went to the jail to protest the wrongful arrests of Team Israel. The only four audience members are Sugiyama's mom and dad and two ball boys that the tour managers made sit in the stands so it looks like ratings are up. More to come soon...
