Singles First Round

Anna Chakvetadze (RUS) vs. Silvia Farina Elia (ITA)

Silvia Farina-Elia (ITA) def. Anna Chakvetadze (RUS) 4-6,6-4,7-6(2)

Overall a very good match by both players. Silvia's commitment is lacking alot, but Anna, a semifinalist at the Aussie, shows hard work and probably will be upset with this loss. good try Anna! Congrats SFE

True, that Nathalie Dechy Carreer she has an end?

Nathalie Dechy career is coming to an end according to many people, since is not able to gain a match since months quasi. Alone in a Doubles and Mixed Doubles they were his good performances, but her whole carreer was a big failure since he does not attend them already.
She fails the matches in a series unfortunately. She does not feel the winning tactics, by which he would be able to win a match altogether, unambiguous according to her own acknowledgement. Dechy announces her withdrawal with the end of the tournament according to many people.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e7/Nathalie_Dechy_2006_Australian_Open.JPG/468px-Nathalie_Dechy_2006_Australian_Open.JPG

Seeing that Nathalie is very nervous may have been the match meanwhile already, is not unambiguous on the orbit spiritually. Winning is heavy in this manner unfortunately. Is continuing tennis in this manner worthy really?

Nathalie Dechy we asked it what he will be with her after these:

"I would like it first thanks my fans for them having been at a standstill beside me throughout and I was never left in the lurch, I do not leave them in the lurch because of this and I do not stop it tennis, because he is this life of mine. I am sure that you are first afterwards for me in her they join forces to come the things. Although what is a fact is a fact myself feel it very badly after the many failures and I have to process this somehow yet the things. Fact nothing may be good already in this year, but I try to do everything, that let me win the remaining matches at least."

http://www.rtlinfo.be/pictures/afp/2007_09_06/300x225/CPS.HIX27

We hope for it Nathalie Dechy declaration calmed everybody down although he has account in a very bad spiritual state on his basis, but does not give it up and will fight long.

"I dont want to comment on my match. Im not going to say anything, I just wish Sania Elena and Serena all the luck in the world for their remaining matches. I dont know what Il do now to be honest, Im too dissapointed to make a final desicion. I will defenetly play the YEC if Im qualified but any other tournaments Im not sure about. Maybe Il play some but I cant decide now. If I dont hopefully Il have enough points to be in the YEC. Maybe Il have to wait until season 2 to play again though. Sania Survives Scares

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/victory.jpg
Sania Mirza pumps her fist after defeating her second round opponent, Silvia Farina-Elia in straight sets. With this win Mirza advances to the quarterfinals of the U.S Open.

India's top ranked player, world number two, Sania Mirza has survived back to back scares from tough competitors who have threatened to outsed Mirza in the last grand slam tournament of the season. In her first round match, the second-seed faced qualifier, Justine Henin of Belguim. Mirza was able to score a straight set win; 6-4, 7-6(0). Earlier today, the Indian sensation scored another tough straigh set win over Silvia Farina-Elia; 7-5, 7-6(4).

"They've been some tough matches, there's a lot of pressure on me to win this event. I really want to win a slam, I think that would make all my dreams come true. I've won a lot of big tournaments, but now it's time for me to win one of the biggest and right now I'm only three matches away from it."

In other action, a tragedy has taken place when fifth-seeded Venus Williams, who was a heavy favorite to face Sania Mirza for a quarterfinal clash, was defeated by Margalita Chakhnashvili. Venus who was saddened by the loss was comforted by the fact that when Margalita steps onto the court tomorrow, she'll be obliterated by Sania. Meanwhile, the remaining two members of the exclusive "It Girls" club, Elena Dementieva and Serena Williams both won their round two matches and advanced into the quarterfinals. The remaining seeds are all "It Girls", Dementieva, Mirza, and Williams.

"We've been doing very well for ourselves for the most part. I wish Elena and Serena the best of luck and hopefully I'll see one of them in the finals. And hopefully I'll beat them there too." Mirza laughed.

Venus pictured with Naomi Campbell supporting Sania Mirza in her second round match. Both are expected to be back at the US Open tommorow for the Quarter Finals.

"Though Im out of the tournament, enough said, Ive got to come down and support my best friends, Elena and Sania, and of course my sister Serena. Il be here tommorow to see Elena take down Fedak, Serena thrash Coco and Sania completly take apart Maka. Il go do somthing else in the other match I suppose. I wish them all the luck in the world, I wish all could win the trophy but only one can. But Il support each of them equally and hope they all play their very best"

Sania Hits the Court with Venus

Sania Mirza and Venus Williams practice rallying against each other for Mirza's quarterfinal match in the U.S Open.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/prac.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/retur.jpg

After loosing her second round match, Venus Williams is out to seek revenge on the woman who eliminated her, Margalita Chakhnashvili. To do so, she's dragged Sania Mirza onto the courts to practice so that tomorrow in her quarterfinal match, not only does she win, but she destroys Chakhnashvili. Mirza who has been practicing for a little more over an hour took a little break so that she could talk with reporters and sign some autographs for some of her millions and millions of adoring fans. Mirza had this statement to say about practicing with Venus.

"It's definently a lot of work. She's kicking my ass right now, I think she's playing as if this is a rematch against Margalita. She's hit me with the ball a couple of times. *ball flies and hits Sania in the side of the head* Ow!...

Venus: Oops! Sorry!

As I was saying... I think that I have a good chance to reach a third consecutive grand slam semi-final but I don't want my run to end there. I want to reach the finals and win. Someone needs to catch up to Elena and I'm the only one to do it." Mirza said with a smile.

Maka had a great 8-4 GS record, all making the QF, she had a fantastic victory over Venus and she should not be dissapointed...Congrats Sania!!!!!!

Williams Serenely Into US Semis

http://www.virginmedia.com/microsites/sport/slideshow/bad-fashion/img_9.jpg

Serena Williams of the U.S. is happy and proud to be the lone American left in the draw, and as she prepares to fight for a spot in the finals, she feels like her game is finally coming together.

"I feel good. I've had some good wins, but I still have a couple more matches left, so I just gotta go out there and keep fighting, but it's a good thing to be here."

Williams said that she wishes she didn't have to play her friend Dementieva. "If I had my way, Sania, Elena, Vee, and I would all split it 4 ways, but Venus isn't here anymore, Sania has someone to play to get to the finals, and I have to play Elena. It's not fun, but we gotta go out there and win it for each other."

Michaella has not had the best season, but surprisingly she has made it to a GS SF,despite not winning a grand slam match prior to the US Open, she had a set game plan and she has attacked it and now faces Sania Mirza, can she upset the Indian prodigy en route to the championship??

What can I say about Elena? She is most defitnely one of the best players in Pro Tour, she has been rnaked number one for over 20 weeks and now is in another semifinal, and she has made nearly 3 million dollars, numerous contracts, and is part of the elite "It-Girls," along with teh Williams sisters and Sania Mirza. She takes on Serena Williams, a close friend, in the semifinals, can she upset Serena to make a third grand slam final this year??

At the beginning of the season, Serena was touted as the no.2 player behind Elena. Up until Tokyo she was the most consistent. But Between Tokyo and Wimbledon she hit a rough patch in her career, starting to lack commitment, pushing retirement and injuries didn't help her, but after Wimbledon, she started to be more committed and made a couple QF at Stanford,San Diego and New Haven. Now in the semifinals of the US Open she takes on Elena Dementieva, the no.1 player, can she take her first win over Elena?? She is the lone American, can she be the American dream?

She is one of the It Girls, a legend on teh tour and has the most wins of the year, probably the most commited players is Sania Mirza, since her final in Antwerp she has been the most consistent I have seen, and can she make her first grand slam final?? She lost a tough one to Pennetta at Wimbledon and demolished by Dementieva in Paris. We Will see.

Statement from Sania

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/won.jpg
India's Sania Mirza hits a couple of balls to her fans after defeating Michaella Krajicek in their semi-final match, giving Mirza the oppertunity to advance to the finals for a chance to win the U.S Open title.

Just a couple hours after winning her grand slam semi-final match against Michaella Krajicek, second-seeded Sania Mirza of India has reached her first career grand slam final and her sixth career final overall. Mirza currently holds the record for most wins (edging over Dementieva by three match wins), and the record for most title wins, at three. The Indian sensation defeated Krajicek in a tough triple set match; 6-4, 0-6, 6-1. After the match, Mirza gave this heartfelt statement during an interview with reporters.

"I'm so happy right now, I honestly wasn't expecting to make it past the semi-finals, but now that I have there's a lot more pressure. Winning a grand slam title has been one of my main focuses this season and I've reach two semi-finals and now I'm in a final. I can't believe that I'm finally here. It's been such a long road and now in a couple of hours I could be a grand slam champion. Serena is one of my best friends on tour, but in this match she's not my friend, she's my competitor. She's so strong and has so much endurance, this isn't going to be an easy match. But I'm a fighter, and I'll fight her tooth and nail for this title."

Serena Soars Into Slam Final

American Serena Williams has turned her game around, and with her mid-season slump behind her, is poised to claim her first grand slam title later this week as she has booked her place in the US Open final. Finally scoring a win over Russian World #1 Elena Dementieva, Williams was steely in their 7-6 7-5 encounter and showed real champions mettle.

"I was really nervous, because I had never beaten her," said an ecstatic Williams, who should now assume the #3 position in the rankings. "Elena and I are really close, and it was hard, because I wanted so badly to win, but I care about my friend. It was difficult, but I found a way to win, and I know she's happy for me."

In the final, Williams will take on Sania Mirza of India, who is the #2 seed.

"Sania's like my closest friend on tour. She's so great, but you know, when we step on court, it's all business. This is a grand slam final, so we just need to go out there and give the fans a good match."

 Sania's first set lost her this match, but I am so proud of her, she is a champion at heart, but she should have won this match. On the other hand, Serena is a phenonmenoal player and took this match quite surprisingly, this was a successful tournament and Serena Williams is your newest and first US OPEN CHAMPION!

Williams Snatches First Slam Title
American tennis star Serena Williams is the newest grand slam titleist as she prevailed in a tight 2-set, 7-5 7-6(1), encounter over India's Sania Mirza to take the US Open title earlier today.

The win will propel Williams to third in the world rankings, behind Russian Elena Dementieva, and Mirza, respectively. Williams beat Dementieva by a similar scoreline in the semifinals.

"Oh my God," exclaimed an ecstatic Williams as her final forehand winner whizzed past Mirza to seal the victory. Williams then raised her hands in triumph and ran to the net to greet friend Mirza, who was all smiles at the net. The two friends laughed and hugged in the moments that proceeded the trophy presentation, forgetting their 2 hour tussle on Arthur Ashe court.

A packed crowd watched as these two friends and competitors took to the court to contest the final grand slam event of the season. Notably in attendance were Williams' sister, Venus, and Dementieva who were sitting together, courtside, wearing shirts that read, "Go Serenia Willza" (signifying the union of the names, Serena Williams and Sania Mirza).

In the first set, Williams took a 3-0 lead behind 2 breaks, before Mirza closed the gap and then led 5-3. Williams then broke Mirza's serve to get to 4-5, then won the following 3 games to take the set 7-5.

"I was really excited out there," said Williams. "I was like a puppy, I was just spraying shots all over the place, some of them went in, but when almost all of them starting going out, I was like, "COME ON Serena, this is a grand slam, stop dicking around," and I found my rhythm...and luckily so, because Sania was playing incredible tennis."

Mirza opened the second set, similarly to Williams, taking a 2-0 lead before Williams rolled off the next 5 games to take a 5-2 lead. When things looked dismal for Mirza, she found another gear and fought off 10 match points by Williams to tie it up eventually at 6 games apiece.

In the tie-break, Williams was stunning, winning 7 of 8 total points, and hitting clean winners of 5 of those points.

"I'm just so happy," said Williams, finally out of her mid-season slump. "I feel good about my game, and I hope that this is just the beginning."

Comments from Mirza

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/int.jpg
Sania Mirza sits down for one interview after loosing the U.S Open to Serena Williams.

Q: How are you feeling?

A: Still crappy. I hurt my hamstring after falling trying to get a shot in the tiebreaker.

Q: Is there anyone that you would like to thank?

A: Elena and Venus were a great support for me throughout this tournament. Also everyone who was cheering for me, I want to thank them as well. They're all amazing, Nikola Hofmanova, Daniela Hantuchova, and even Nicole Vadisova who made a little return to watch the Open. And of course, all my adoring fans.

Q: It was a great match. Do you regret anything?

A: Yes but whatever, it's over with, move on.

Q: Well what's next with you?

A: I might withdraw from China. I'm unsure about it. My hamstring hurts a lot right now and I've yet to be given some bloody painkillers! Can you believe it? I mean really. I pay a buttload of money and for what? So I can just sit around on the thresh-hold of pain talking to your dumbass.

Q: Well... I... um... Did you know you qualified for the Year End Championship? You're the only player in the draw to not have won a grand slam title.

A: Thanks for reminding me asshole.

Q: Well... I'm out of time so I'll--

A: SECURITY!

Q: Why are you calling security on me?!

A: I don't like your tie, it doesn't match your suit at all.

Q: But you can't just--

A: I can do whatever I want!

S: -Picks up reporter-

Q: You can't do this to me! I went to Harvard! I-

S: -Throws reporter out of room-

A: Good security officer. -Pats his head- Who wants a treat? -Throws security officer a treat-
