Dementieva Has First Round Syndrome

The number one Australian Open champ Elena Dementieva can't win any match since her Roland Garros final. She has only one final and a lot of first round loss since the big final.

http://dementieva.ru/downloads/catimages/3877_image.jpg

"I really don't know what's the problem. I'm training hard, I'm working, but where is the result? I'm the number one but I don't deserve it now. Next week US Open... and I don't know, if I'm not win match there then I'll retire I think."

Sania Survives Scare

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/come.jpg
Sania Mirza clenches her first as she walks towards the net to give a handshake to Silvia Farina-Elia after defeating her in their round one match of the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament in New Haven, Conneticut.

Sania Mirza outlasted Silvia Farina-Elia in a marathon match in the first round of the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament in New Haven, Conneticut earlier today. The second-seeded Indian player was able to battle past being down 5-3 in the third set and win the last four consecutive games to take the match in three sets; 5-7, 7-5, 7-5.

"It was definently a long match and I'm completely pooped right now. The second set was relatively easy to win, I just had to wait to get the break at the end of the set but in the third she really caught me off guard when she was up 5-3 and serving for the match. I knew I had to do something."

And she did multiple things like save a match point, rally through long points and won the last four games to take the match and advance into the second round. Once again, numerous top-seeded players have felt the sting of a first round exit such as Wimbledon champ, Flavia Pennetta, Venus Williams, and world number one, Elena Dementieva.

Dementieva who was interviewed after her match said that she feels as if she has first round syndrome and can't win a match since her final at Roland Garros. Although she did reach the finals of Los Angeles before falling to Sania Mirza in the championship match. Dementieva said she might think of retirement if she does not win a match at the US Open.

These aren't the first thoughts like that, the retirement bug has also been with Sania Mirza who confirmed last week that she will stay on tour for the remainder of this season and will most likely be back for next season, but also with Venus Williams who grand slam success is anything but pretty. Williams is 0-3 in grand slam events and is hoping to change that around in Flushing Meadows. Sania Mirza was interviewed about her thoughts on the possible retirements of two of her closest friends on tour.

"Well of course I want them to stay. They're my best friends and I hope they do well at the U.S Open. If Elena retires then I don't want to be number one. I want to earn it, not be given it. I'm sure she'll do well, she knows how to turn up the heat at slams and I'm sure she'll have no problem. Venus just needs a better strategy for slams. She has every chance to be a grand slam champ, she's won two titles on tour, so she's definently not a push-over."

Sania Mirza will take to the court once again today to compete in her second round match against China's Na Li. Li defeated one of the crowd favorite's, Lindsay Davenport in a triple setter. But the American's are not all out, fourth-seeded Serena Williams made a resurgance and reached the second round by defeating Margalita Chakhnashvili and the Roger's Cup champ, Brie Whitehead advanced by defeating Anna Chakvetadze of Russia.

"I just need to rest up a little more for my match against Na. I'm not expecting an easy match but I sure am hoping for one."

Jelena Jankovic def. Yuliana Fedak 6-3,6-4

Jelena plays a solid match and it is nice to see her name winning on the top of the draw. She is back to her winning ways and one of the few consisten players through the US Open series. Yuliana won a match here, but has not proven alot besides a final in Estoril. Congrats Jelena!

Is retirement the right option for world number 5?

http://msnbcmedia4.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/070907/070907_venus_vmed_3p.widec.jpg

Vera Zvonareva def. (5)Venus Williams 6-4,3-6,7-5

After three hours of what herself called 'usless' tennis, American Venus Willams has decided that the US Open will be 'make or break' for her and failure to reach the second round in Flushing meadows she has promised will end in retirement. Venus has became a very inconsistent player and a lack of motivation along with some horrible tennis is seeing her sink to a new low.

"Pro Tour is high quality and im not playing to the standard. Week after Week im feeling worse. I played one of the worse matches of my life, only Roland Garros and Wimbledon have been worse, and Im not staying here to have 1st round losses. Im going to give it everything at the US Open but if my results dont improve, im out of here"

Brie continues her winning form here in New Haven, now on a 7 match winning streak. She next faces Jelena Jankovic, whom she defeated in teh Toronto final last week in a thrilling 3 set encounter. Elena has been no where since her QF at the French Open. Has Sania scared her off her winning ways?

Dementieva: "I Will Announce My Decision On Thursday"

The number one Russian player will announce her retirement's decision on Thursday, after her first match.

"It's very tough you know, but I have to decide. This is a great tour, but if I don't have motivation then I have to finish my fantastic career or maybe I'll take a long break and then I'll return in the YEC. One of my best friends, Venus Williams is thinking of retirement as well, I hope she'll stay here and maybe then I'll will stay too.

Anyway, now with Sania [Mirza], Venus we will go out and we'll drink a lot of alcohol, bye all."

Elena's Quarterfinal Predictions

Jelena Jankovic vs. Brie Whitehead
I lost to Jelena that's why I hope she can beat Brie finally, who is unbeatable in these days.

PREDICTION: Jankovic d. Whitehead 06 60 76(4)

Vera Zvonareva vs. (4)Serena Williams
Serena is Australian Open finalist but she cant find her form, finally she is in form and I think she will beat Vera in straight sets.

PREDICTION: Williams d. Zvonareva 76 75

(3)Nikola Hofmanova vs. Justine Henin
Nikola played good tennis this week but she is a bit vague that's why can't win any tournament nowdays I think. On the other hand Justine will get frightened because of Tier I QF I think.

PREDICTION: Hofmanova d. Henin 61 06 75

Daniela Hantuchova vs. Na Li
Hantuchova is better player she has to beat Na.

PREDICTION: Hantuchova d. Li 64 76

The "It" Girls

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/3.jpg
Sania Mirza, Elena Dementieva, and Venus Williams pose together outside a hot New Haven club called, The Gong. The Chinese club gave each of the "It Girls" a diamond tennis bracelet to make an appearence.

The Pro Tour's very own pack of "It Girls" made up of the top players in the world, world number one, Elena Dementieva, world number two, Sania Mirza and tennis titan, Venus Williams, were spotted at a one of New Haven's hottest night clubs, The Gong. The ladies were all warmly welcome and partied the night away with A-list celebs such as themselves. Although Dementieva and Williams are thinking about possible retirements from the tour or at least an extended break, they have still been spotted at numerous clubs, resturants, and around the town with third member of the pack, Sania Mirza. Mirza was asked about any possible information she had on her two bestfriends.

Interviewer: So Miss Mirza, could you possibly talk to us about any information you have about the retirements of Elena Dementieva and Venus Williams?

How many people have to qualify?

It's for the Year End Championships. Top 8 players in the world qualify. Elena Dementieva (#1) has already qualfied. Sania Mirza and some others might qualify at the US Open.

Pilot Pen Delight for Slovak
http://www.pilotpentennis.com/pix/images/home_03.gif
It was a beautiful day in New Haven when Pilot Pen tournament started. The action was fierce and the sun was blazing. All the top seeds were in action. Who at that moment would have thoucht Daniela Hantuchova, the newest editon to the Pro Tour Family, would end up on top.

http://www2.tennisserver.com/images/photofeed/2007/pilot-pen/waite/070822/Szavay-Hantuchova/Hantuchova5.jpg
On Day one Hantuchova faced of against Urzula Radwanska of Poland. The game was rather routine for Daniela. A break of serve than a tie breack.

Next in the second round she played Martina Hingis. Daniela quickly duspached her 6-1 6-3. After was Na Li in the QF and won with her great fore hands and penetrating backhands. The Semis made Daniela loose her first set but Daniela won! 6-2 1-6 7-5. The Final had an in form Zvonoreva versus SDani. Dani went to her winnning ways and took home her first title 7-5 6-2.

"I was thinking of leaving but bnow I think I have a future here!"

Hantuchova Hailed in New Haven

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b241/FlamingoSpice/blah.jpg
Daniela Hantuchova proudly poses for a picture infront of her national flag and holds her trophy for winning the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament beside her.

If you haven't heard of Daniela Hantuchova, you might want to start listening. Although she's just debuted on tour a couple of weeks ago, she's already established herself as a rising star. This week in New Haven, the final tournament before the U.S Open begins, the young Slovakian stunned some of the tours top players such as the last seed of the tournament, third-seeded Nikola Hofmanova to advance into the finals.

In the finals, Hantuchova defeated tour veteran Vera Zvonareva with a stunning 7-5, 6-2 win. Zvonareva is no push over, she's been known to give top ranked players a lot of trouble advancing in tournaments and is considered to be the best player on tour whose never won a title. Zvonareva is most known for a media spat she had with tour darling, Sania Mirza.

Numerous top ranked players came to the finals match to cheer each competitor had tour players in their boxes. The most notable players to attend the match were the "It Girls" of the tour, Sania Mirza, Elena Dementieva, Venus Williams, and new addition, Serena Willimas. I got a chance to sit down and talk with the "It Girls" about their thoughts on the match.

Interviewer: Well ladies, it's great to have you all here!

Sania: It's great to be here!

Serena: Yeah, we love doing interviews. Espcially when we're the center of the interview.

Elena: Yeah!

Interviewer: Well ladies, actually I wanted to you all about your thoughts on one of the newest players on tour, Daniela Hantuchova.

Venus: Wait... you mean to tell us you're doing an interview with us about someone else?!

Sania: That's balls!

Interviewer: Well I--

Elena: That's completely stupid! I don't want to talk about someone else!

Serena: There is no one else as far as I'm concerned!

Interviewer: Well I'm terribly sorry ladies but I just thought we could talk about--

Sania: Hey! I recognize you! You're that creepy guy who broke into my hotel room earlier today!

Interviewer: What? Me? No... couldn't have been--

Sania: Security!

Interviewer: Oh-- No need to do that heh...

Security: You again?!

Interviewer: Oh crap!

Security: I'm gonna break you in two!

Interviewer: That's all the time I have for today! Bye! -runs away-

Sania: Someone get him so we can put him in jail so he'll stop following me around!

Dementieva will play the YEC

It's fantastic news, our Australian Open champion will definitely play the YEC at the end of the year. She told us that she will retire maybe after US Open but she has told me today that she will not retire until the YEC, probably she will just take a long break.

"I love this tour and I am successful here because I won major tournament and I am the number one since begin of the year after all. Here playing my three best friends [Sania Mirza, Venus & Serena Williams] and I want to meet them but it's only then possible if I do not retire. Playing the YEC may be special feeling, I want to feel it.
